PS2 vs. PS3, not your average debate.

Unfortunately it got into my mind some four months ago that I wanted to test the myth, and so I went on an emulation spree. Obviously I came out pretty disappointed.
Not that it doesn't have a large number of great games, it does, just like any other leading system. It's that people like to blow this number out of proportion. Eventually we end up with lists like this where completely average games like Earthworm Jim, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Mortal Kombat (really most of the games on that list) are being made out to be some of the best things you could ever lay your hands on.

SNES is definitely one of the best consoles, but not THE best.

Hey, being fair, my original list was quite short and really was restricted to just amazing games, but I decided to loosen the boundaries a bit due to heaps of people asking. The SNES still has more AAA titles than any other console ever, so it doesn't really matter, either way.

See, in order for Sony to make money on the PS3, the price tag would need to be much higher then it is now because of all the expensive stuff shoved into it.

The PS3 has gotten cheaper, but, I don't know when the price tag will go down again.

So after hearing all your advices and stuff. I thought I give it a go at Ebay. Guess what? I won the auction! So now I have a PS3. For a very fair price too. So now I'll just have to wait and see, it was from a respected buyer so I have all confidence that it will turn out fine.


On another note, the SNES is a great console. Not just because of the library but more so because I feel that the games have aged well.

I hope it turns out well (: I doubt I'll ever own a PS3 since I have a 360 and Wii, and the PS3 is just so similar.

Also, Yeah I think they ages well because they're the best 2D grapihics, so in that style, there's no better really.

Playstation 3 80GB’s PS2 backwards compatibility sucks. 60GB edition is good, though.

He didn't state what he had, on a second note.

I'm pretty sure the 80 gig version isn't backwards compatible at all. I couldn't get anything to work at least.

The 80GB model had to be from before March 2008 or so to be backwards compatible. The new 80s don't have it.

It's been vastly improved since launch. It isn't perfect, but it's better. Frankly, given his choices, the partially backward compatible model was a great option.

And it's the 60GB European with partial backward compatibility. Not the 80GB, like in the US.

So the PS3 arrived today and everything seems to be in perfect working order! So it all worked out great!

It's quite big compared to the little Wii, then again it packs a lot more than its white cousin. Due to it having been delivered to my parents instead of directly to me (my fault) so I haven't been able to play with it myself yet. It has an advantage though, as I can hook it up to a HD-TV there.
