I was thinking the other day, all we ever hear for theories are zelda timeline this, and who's Link is it anyway that, but I ask you, isn't it time we had some discussion about Metroid!
My thought is this, mind you it is just for fun, but it could make for some good posting. Also note that there will no doubt me Zero Mission spoilers in here, just in case you haven't played it. Samus's Gravity suit upgrade, is temporary. Think about it, "first" time we see it(if you go by the timeline Nintendo has established to some extent) I view the "timeline" like this. (If I can remember right anyway) Zero Mission/Metroid (The beginning) Prime Return of Samus Super Fusion Now then, from ZM to Prime, somewhere along the way Samus' Gravity suit disappears, since at the beginning of Prime she just has her Varia suit. Now, I've never played ROS, so I don't even know if the Gravity suit makes an appearance, I presume not. Then in Super Metroid, you get the Gravity suit once again. Then in the intro for Fusion, Samus once again is Varia suit only. I may be on to something that Nintendo isn't telling us, or maybe I'm just bored, but either way, what are your thoughts on this? (And I mean ThoughtS, not just one sentance concurance.)

Re: For all you metroid fans
I have recently been very intersted in Metroid lately. And a few weeks ago I borrowed my friends RoS and you only get two suits. You start out with your power suit then get the varia. And it seems in most Metroid games Samus either starts out with the varia or power suit.
Okay here we go. Metroid/Metroid Zero Mission: Samus starts out with power suit. Metroid Prime: Samus starts of with varia suit. Metroid 2:Return of Samus: Samus starts out with powersuit Super Metroid: Samus starts out with power suit Metroid Fusion: Samus starts out with varia suit. Now if you ask me I think the suits have nothing to do with the series change. Samus just starts out with her basic suit. Which is either varia or power suit. Just like in the sequels to Zelda games like in MM Link doesn't have anything he used to have. He only has three hearts and no sling shot and other items. Now that isn't important to the story. My theory is that Nintendo puts Samus in a weak suit at the beggining of each game to add challenge. And you get to discover better and cooler suits as you play. The thing that got me is how Samus gets different ships. SPOILERS FOR MZM!!! Samus starts out with her ship. Then later on it is destroyed after she is attacked by the pirates. So then she jacks one of their ships and escapes. Which I think set up for a sequel. Which would show Samus get her new ship that she has in MP. Then after MP she must lose that ship since it is quite different from the ships she has in M2, SM and at the start of MF. END SPOILERS!!!!! So I think the ships is what really matters. And I am betting we will see how Samus gets her new ship in MP2. But maybe I might be wrong about that and the ship Samus has in MP is the same one in M2 and so on. But I am betting it isn't and Samus will have a ship change in MP2. And in a later Metroid game we may say how Samus gets out of the pirate ship she stole and into the ship she has in MP. And thats all I really need to say. |

Re: For all you metroid fans
Well, at the start of Fusion she says she borrowed that ship, after her ship crashed. Besically, it is not really her ship. But I think you are right about that, there would probably be a sequal to Zero Mission.
This is my timeline: _________________________ Metroid Zero Mission/Metroid Metroid Prime Metroid Prime 2 (if it fits in when it comes out) Metroid 2: The Return of Samus Super Metroid Metroid Fusion _________________________ There is really no way to screw around with the Metroid timeline. There are really no arguements, because they TELL you when they take place. Or at least to my knowledge they do.

Re: For all you metroid fans
I said that she crashed her own ship in my post, though I thought you were referring to the ship she borrowed. Sorry for that, it's just a little confusing since there are two ships in Fusion.
Just to keep this interesting: Maybe she just buys a new ship? I bet you could do that. I mean, everything is a possibility. I doubt it, but it could be.

Re: For all you metroid fans
Suits have some general attributes.
One is the ability to withstand climate. Varia suit and heat (and freezing, depending- or lava, again, differences from game to game). Gravity suit allows for navigation in water without adverse effects such as decreased jump height and speed. Phazon suit (unique to MP so far) negates the negative effect of phazon radiation (but only phazon-brand radiation and not the stronger type [note: I say "stronger" but it may be more correct to term it as merely "different"] of unknown orange radioactive material found within the Phazon core. As a further side note, the phazon suit is less of a "suit" than a "corruption" or perversion of the existing gravity suit that occured from contact with the phazon entity "Omega Pirate"). Other attributes are less than direct such as increased jump height (I believe this is so in MP). These are incidental and do not constitute anything but local differences from game to game. As a human in nature, Samus needs the climate effects of the suits for survival in space, heat, cold and radiation (duh). More or less, the theory of the most basic suit being the one intact is correct.

Re: For all you metroid fans
Well, it has been said that Metroid Prime takes place between Zero Mission/Original Metroid and Metroid 2. To my knowledge, Nintendo has released the information that this is true. I may be wrong, but I am very sure that Metroid 2 comes after Prime. I know I read it somewhere... but for all I know, you are right and I am wrong. I will have to research the subject...
