Dragon Quest V

Well, with the February 17th release date drawing near, I figure it's about time for a thread for the game.

Siliconera released a bunch of new English videos for the game today. Just going from those, this game already looks much better than Dragon Quest IV. I was left a little disappointed by Dragon Quest IV, though it was originally an NES game, so that could be expected, but I can't wait for Dragon Quest V.

It just doesn't end! So many good games to play, so little time. My summer backlog will be full this year.

Re: Dragon Quest V

This one's epic! The generational story is really neat, and a monster-taming aspect that Pokémon (unceremoniously) "borrowed from," if you're into that kind of thing. It's also the better of the two 16-bit Dragon Quests in my opinion.

I can't believe it's coming so soon! I just wish VI could be released sooner, but they haven't even announced a Japanese release date yet. I'm interested in seeing what they do with that one.

It'll be so nice to finally play this in professionally translated English. I've played the Super Famicom ROM and the PS2 version with a script. It looks pretty similar to the PS2 version, minus the 3D world map and character/monster models. It'll be interesting to see if it actually is all that faithful, though.

Re: Dragon Quest V

the only dragon quest game I ever played was DQ8 for ps2. it was really really fun and nifty, and the story was cool, but it was SOOOO long. I don't mind long games, but the battles got way too redundant. it's like, you're still fighting the same creatures, except they're a different color and tougher to beat.

I wanted to find out what happens in the story, and I wanted to complete the game, but the fighting just got SO boring and repetitive.

Re: Dragon Quest V

It does get repetitive, so in addition to the games being long, I take breaks. They can take awhile.

Funny. I wouldn't describe Dragon Quest VIII as boring or repetitive. At times, the encounter rate got on my nerves, but that was really my only complaint.

Re: Dragon Quest V

The game just got an A+ from Jeremy Parish over at 1UP. The review is fantastic.

Only 3 more days! I can't wait. But sadly, I don't think I'll be able to pick it up right away.

Re: Dragon Quest V

I have heard that this game is EPIC. I mean, sure the battle and menu system are a little archaic, but with the great new graphics, portability, and minigames and sidequests, this looks like one fun game. I will probably not play this for years to come though, I tend to wait till the price of games go down significantly before I buy them :/

Re: Dragon Quest V

Is this the one where you have the kid and eventually play as him? Or something like that.
