Is it just me, or was Sonic Heroes missing something?
It was a fun game and all, but it felt like that it was missing something. I know how some people want Sonic to go back to roots, but do they know the side effects of it?
SH almost went back to Sonic's original roots. But there was not much interactivity. Too short of cutscences. It seems to me that the Last Story is the only thing worth playing know. Sonic Adventure featured the full explore Station Square or that Ruins Island. Sonic Adventure 2 focused more on story (cutscenes), and that added some interactivity. Sonic Heroes seems like it had too much gameplay. For example, you would be at a canyon, then BAM! You're at a forest. It doesn't explain how they got there. That's my rant for today. (And my 100th post!)

In my opinion, the game would have been better if it was just one character at a time. Being able to switch characters in the middle of the level might be cool, but really it just takes away from the game.

Yeah, maybe if you had different levels of each stage made for one specific person of the group. One for speed, one for strength, and one for flying. That would be pretty interesting, if you think about it. It just seemed too relaxed to me.

Yes, it was missing something. It was missing the lack of having only one character or team to play as at once. Too many characters = too many conflicting gameplay elements = annoying gameplay. It's good to stick to a formula that works rather than cramming tons of different styles into the same game. It's also sad that the best level in the game is the first...had everything else been as good, it would have been an awesome game.
Oh, and the game was missing good voice acting as well. |

Definately, but it as more back to the roots of Knuckles Chaotic of Sonic Crackers, not really the Genesis or Master system roots. You don't know how much I would love to see a Sonic game on a system like this that was just like the old 2D ones... but 3D, more like an advanced Sonic 3D Blast. Or maybe they could make Sonic 3 in 3D! No homing attack... just plain old Sonic, no enhancments and all that extra crap he doesn't need.
But I must agree, heroes came the closest. But what I really liked waas in Sonic 3, or Sonic and Knuckles, when you switched levels, it showed a VERY short sprite-cutscene showing how they get to the next level. Sear: Yeah, the voice acting was terrible, it didn't even sound like the Sonic I grew up with. It seems like they get a different person to do the voices every game...

It is most defently 100% missing something that this game was missing.
This game had a total lack of water stages. If only they included water stages, this could have been a better game. Heck, I would rather prefer a 2D Sonic game like Sonic 3 for the gamecube instead of a 3D one. 2D Sonic > 3D Sonic |

I tink it was no feeling in the game. sonic adventure 2 battle had it?! The camra was fine hohoho i got the PAL version its fixed. Playing as other charas is fun but i dont want to be forced to play as them.

Sonic Heroes is a good game. I completed it with all chaos emeralds within a month. The only downside to this game is the characters. It would be better if they didnot have the three characters located at the end. (the crocodile, bee and that other one). These characters wern't really that good. All they did in the game is hunt treasure and stuff.
The ability to change character was alright, but this would have been better if they had separate levels for each character (e.g speed for sonic, obstacles for knuckles, flyin for tails). You would not have to change in mid level just to clear a small section of the level. This was a let down. The boss levels were alright, but they needed to be improved a bit. This wasn't the best 3d sonic game i have played. The best 3d sonic game i have played is sonic adventure 2 on the gamecube. This game has speed and levels for each character and it has a chao garden and linkup to sonic advance 1 and 2 to transport your chao anywhere you go Last edited by Jimes; 04-06-2004 at 12:44 PM. |

Yeah your right sonic heros was missing something. First off you realy never got going that fast. I realy enjoy sonic games because you go realy fast. Sure in sonic heros you got to leave a trail of destruction behind you but you never realy got moving.
Second, the story line wasn't that involving. The cutsenes were like maybe 30 secends long. The cutsenes just didn't have much depth. Third, when you play as team rose the courses are way to easy. They make easy games look hard. And then when you play as team dark the coarses sometimes are extremely hard. like insanly hard. Fourth, in team chaotix all you do is collect stuff. It just felt so boring. I mean come on you didn't even have like a thing that blinks when you get near something. It just got boring after a while. And charmy was so fricken anoying. The game just wasn't any fun.

It's not Sonic Heroes, it's 3D sonic in general. I'm no fan of the blue hedgepig but I do know that since Sonic team went into the 3rd dimension their games have seemed... artificial. As if they're just trying to catch up with the rest of the videogame world after games like Mario and Zelda made the change.
Thats my opinion anyway.

personally... i think the idea of switching is good.. ands another element to keep track of.
as for gameplay, that what sonic used to be, really short game play and running really fast. and they should have stuck to it more. Sonic is about going really fast and having to time your moves so you keep going really fast. not about trying to find 3 emeralds... you had to do that in the special stages. and while i'm on special stages, the one where you had to turn all the blue balls red, and not hit any red ones was the best ministage sonic has ever had. it tested your reflexes, it tests your speed, and being able to handle under the pressure of a time limit and music that just adds to the speed. Sonic Heroes does a better job of speed than Sonic adventure... Battle was ok, i just hated the Tails or Knuckles levels, i had my brother do them. But i do miss those Chaos... EDIT: Personally sonic only needs really short cut-scenes... not those big long FF ones. And for all those people who go off and say that there should be a different level for each char.. Sonic Adventre 1&2 did that. sonic adventure also had better speed levels... much better speed levels. The next sonic game they do should be straight sonic... no one else, maybe shadow. but no tails, well, if they do it the same way they did in Sonic 3 then ok, but no kuckles... then hunting for emeralds only hurt the game. To recap: only sonic, really fast gameplay, and throw those Chaos back in... There's my rant for the day... and i'm closer to my 1000th post.
