(Wii) Animal Crossing: Let's go to the City/ City Folk/ Machi he ikou

I couldn't find any threads about this game, so I decided to make one. I hope it's ok...

So, who has this game? It wasn't released long ago here in Australia, so I'm still addicted... ^^;

Does anyone know what the silver items do? And who's town is completely barren?? :O

How does this one compare to the previous titles? I've heard they've barely added anything new.

Re: (Wii) Animal Crossing: Let's go to the City/ City Folk/ Machi he ikou

I haven't played the N64 versions, the earliest one I have played is AC:GC.

In AC:GC, you can't change your hat, hair, shoes etc. And you can put a small amount of objects in your closet. You can't wifi with people around the world, it was very limited.

In AC:WW, you could change your hair and hat. With the use of the stylus, it was easier to draw patterns and such. You also could wifi with people around the world.

In AC:CF, it is very similar to AC:WW, but there is a city. You can visit the city via bus and get a makeover, there are auctions, theatres and things you would expect in a small city. You can also change your shoes this time. But compared to AC:WW, you can't expand your house as greatly. You can only get a room upstairs, an expanded main room and a basement. However, with WiiSpeak, instead of having to type words in like in AC:WW, you just speak when online. But the catch is that it's expensive.

There is also a downside where you towns can be completely barren if you keep running on the grass/snow. This is a new feature on AC:CF only. It takes 1 month to completely degrade all the grass/snow and 6 months for full recovery. There are also more fish and bugs to catch, along with more characters, a bigger town, unique gameplay with the wii remote and more events.

^.^

The N64 version is basically the same as the gamecube version. THe GC version is a port. The N64 version was named Animal Forest but was never released outside of Japan.

Wait, so you leave tracks? So if you walk the same path over and over a path will start to form in the ground? That's pretty damn cool. I might pick up AC:CF as I never played AC:WW, but I loved the GCN AC.

Yep! You leave tracks. It is okay, but the tracks take very long to recover in contrast to the degrading rate. :/ And running is fun, so most people end up with no grass or snow left.

This is not something to get excited about, trust me... Your town quickly becomes 90% dirt, even more so than in Wild World. It makes things real ugly real fast.

If you liked the GC one, this one is kinda half-way in between both of the other games. It's definitely an improvement over Wild World.

My town's a hunk of dirt!
Anyway, the silver items:
Shovel- Gives you a chance at extra money from the money rocks.
Watering can- Has a wider watering radius. I think it can also revive dead red turnips.
Slingshot- Shoots 2 bullets.
Axe- Doesn't break. (Golden axe is faster and also doesn't break.)
Net- A little bigger.
Rod- Fish are more easily attracted to it.

I think that's all of them, right? Basically, they're the in-between tools. The golden ones are the best ones.

Anyway, despite the fact that I'm still having fun with this game, it is a gigantic disappointment and wasted opportunity.

Oh thanks for the info on the silver items!

And yeah, those tracks aren't good... >.<

You think it's a gigantic disapointment? I see it as a small disappointment... but it's still kinda fun. I love the city and wiispeak the best..

Re: (Wii) Animal Crossing: Let's go to the City/ City Folk/ Machi he ikou

I picked this up a few days ago.

I was expecting a little more.. change, I think. The game is very much the same. However, I haven't played much at all and haven't even been able to visit the city yet, so maybe that'll change my opinion.

Whoever's worried about the tracks, don't bother walking around to try to stop it. Regardless of whether you run, walk, or tiptoe, the tracks still form, unfortunately.

Honestly, I was hoping the series would get a little more of an upgrade on the Wii... Laziness shines through, and it seems like the game's only purpose was to promote WiiSpeak.

I wrote down my initial pros and cons in another thread somewhere...
Here they are. These were after playing the game for a week or two, and I don't think they've changed since then.

Quote:
Pros:
--WiiConnect24/Downloadable content can expand the life of the game by adding many new items (or other things, who knows), and they DO NOT have to exist in the game at its release for it to work. And, it's confirmed to be free (one of the things I was nervous about).

--Well, as far as Animal Crossing goes, the visuals got a nice little touch-up. Of course, they're still the usual blocky AC visuals (and I wouldn't have it any other way), but some of the little touches put into the game are kinda cool.

--You can opt out of HRA letters! Hooray!

--Cool new items are available and are reasonably obtainable-- I won't mention them because I guess they're "spoilers".

--Some interface changes are good-- you can switch through your tools instantly with the D-pad, for instance.

--Mii masks can make this game hilarious.

--They finally put the good holidays back in the game (Halloween, Christmas, various festivals, et cetera).

--Four seperate houses are back, and they have the same expansions as ACGC (except for a flag you can get)-- some may list this as a "bad" thing, but these houses were not built for four players... Plus, you get the basement back! Man, I missed my basement in WW.

Cons:
--Mostly reused Wild World music. Lame! If they had to reuse any at all, I wish it was ACGC's, at the very least.

--Not really any outstanding new features (this is a bigger problem than the others). The city is more or less a place for previously random/weekly occurrences to sit in one spot, and WiiSpeak is, well, voice chat, which isn't particularly mindblowing, unless you're really excited about that kinda thing.

--You can't use the control stick when making patterns... What the heck is this?! You're forced to use the Wiimote and the Wiimote only... which means good luck trying to copy or create good ones without screwing up.

--One minor annoyance is the dirt paths you create from running over areas of grass... they make the town turn ugly pretty fast.

--Some things, like the town's in-between-GC-and-WW-size, seemed like they could have taken a little more advantage of the Wii.

--You can't transfer saves. This means you're stuck with one town on each Wii.

--You can't (to my knowledge) buy tools from the catalogue anymore-- which means that until you upgrade Nook's, it's a total pain deciding who gets what tool if you have more than one player in town. Likewise, if you break an axe... prepare to wait for another one to show up on shelves.
I am still having fun with this game, but it could have been so much more... Instead, it's pretty much the same thing for a third time (fifth for Japan).

:/

That's disappointing. I spent all day carefully walking around to avoid getting tracks. Oh well.

I dunno if the grass is destroyed at the same rate, but I do know it is still destroyed-- if you find small spots of grass or snow you haven't walked over yet on a certain day, tiptoe over it and watch it carefully, and you can see it shrink a bit.

These are common knowledge to people who didn't mind spoilers, but I don't know if everyone knows about them, so...

--Samus helmet and suit
--Midna helmet
--Majora's Mask (YES!!)
--Hero's Cap (Link's hat and hair) and clothes
--Triforce (now spins around and does the opening chime as in ALttP)
--1-up Mushroom (actually displays "1UP" when you touch it; pretty awesome)
...Actually, here, I uploaded a picture of it.
--Mario Kart
--Starman (plays the "invincible" loop from MarioKart 64 repeatedly until you touch it again)
--Green Pipe (now has a piranha plant coming out of it)
--Cannon (I think this shoots a Bullet Bill; I'm not sure)

I don't have all of these, and those are just off the top of my head, but many of the items got significantly cooler this time around.

Some of those mario items where already in WW, only available trough hacking, but still in the game nonetheless, so wouldn't call them "new"

^ I know, but I listed them because they changed and became cooler. (I don't think they did those things in WW... they usually just made noise.)

It really said "1UP"? Wow, I had no idea. Either that or I forgot.
Okay, never mind. But they're cool nonetheless.

Uh, lemme see if I can find them...
Hmm, I can't find how to get them.
Maybe they're not in the game yet? I dunno, but people have listed them.
EDIT: My guess is that maybe they will become downloadable content if they're not already attainable in the game.
