Re: Animal crossing: Lets go to the city?

I'm buying this tonight online for my girlfriend. I'm 90% sure I won't be buying it for myself, since I have WW - which is better.

How?

You can take it with you anywhere you go, and the randoms they shoved into the hamlet in LGttC are actually still random. It doesn't let you get everything at once, which is the whole point of Animal Crossing.

Re: Animal crossing: Lets go to the city?

I'm a big Animal Crossing fan, and I can honestly say that this game is still disappointing.
I knew it would be disappointing before it even came out.
I have only had it for about a week, however, but this is how it seems so far...

I do think it's better than Wild World (the best thing about WW is its portability, anyway), but there are so many missed opportunities here.
That said, I do think there are some positive things about the game, too.

Overall, here're the positives and negatives, in my opinion:

Pros:
--WiiConnect24/Downloadable content can expand the life of the game by adding many new items (or other things, who knows), and they DO NOT have to exist in the game at its release for it to work. And, it's confirmed to be free (one of the things I was nervous about).

--Well, as far as Animal Crossing goes, the visuals got a nice little touch-up. Of course, they're still the usual blocky AC visuals (and I wouldn't have it any other way), but some of the little touches put into the game are kinda cool.

--You can opt out of HRA letters! Hooray!

--Cool new items are available and are reasonably obtainable-- I won't mention them because I guess they're "spoilers".

--Some interface changes are good-- you can switch through your tools instantly with the D-pad, for instance.

--Mii masks can make this game hilarious.

--They finally put the good holidays back in the game (Halloween, Christmas, various festivals, et cetera).

--Four seperate houses are back, and they have the same expansions as ACGC (except for a flag you can get)-- some may list this as a "bad" thing, but these houses were not built for four players... Plus, you get the basement back! Man, I missed my basement in WW.

Cons:
--Mostly reused Wild World music. Lame! If they had to reuse any at all, I wish it was ACGC's, at the very least.

--Not really any outstanding new features (this is a bigger problem than the others). The city is more or less a place for previously random/weekly occurrences to sit in one spot, and WiiSpeak is, well, voice chat, which isn't particularly mindblowing, unless you're really excited about that kinda thing.

--You can't use the control stick when making patterns... What the heck is this?! You're forced to use the Wiimote and the Wiimote only... which means good luck trying to copy or create good ones without screwing up.

--One minor annoyance is the dirt paths you create from running over areas of grass... they make the town turn ugly pretty fast.

--Some things, like the town's in-between-GC-and-WW-size, seemed like they could have taken a little more advantage of the Wii.

--You can't transfer saves. This means you're stuck with one town on each Wii.

--You can't (to my knowledge) buy tools from the catalogue anymore-- which means that until you upgrade Nook's, it's a total pain deciding who gets what tool if you have more than one player in town. Likewise, if you break an axe... prepare to wait for another one to show up on shelves.

I've probably forgotten some things I wanted to mention, but that's the gist of it. All in all, I'd say if you liked ACGC and skipped out on Wild World or vice-versa, then give this a spin. If you played both, however... it might not be worth your time and money.

It seems like this game was lazily and quickly thrown out there simply to promote WiiSpeak, which is, needless to say, a huge shame and disappointment.
