Re: Game of the Year 2008
Yup, no doubt about it, it'll be Brawl. I place my vote on it.

Re: Game of the Year 2008
It probably won't, unfortunately. Fighting games very rarely get the nod and Smash isn't as revered as other Nintendo franchises like Mario or Zelda. I say it at least deserves to be nominated.
Which leads me to my picks- Grand Theft Auto IV Smash Bros. Brawl Gears of War 2 Metal Gear Solid 4 Fallout 3 (not what I necessarily like the best or even think deserves it, but what I assume will be the most likely picks) |

It's a platformer that focuses on creation. It's like LittleBigPlanet, except free and without multiplayer. (oh, and much less focus on physics) It's a great game, you should download it and try it out. However, I've been ecstatic about LBP since it was announced, I just don't have a goddamn PS3! I kind of want one specificly for LBP and MGS4.

If only they would look to BioWare for some lessons in dialogue.

Re: Game of the Year 2008
I'm going to bring in Okami for the best game of 2008.
It has used new elements of art into a game and it was absolutely flawless. I would top it above that of TP, if it was allowed... :3

Re: Game of the Year 2008
I'd vote for either GoW2 or Fallout 3, but there are a couple of other contenders with good chances (MGS4, Little Big Planet, etc).
To whoever thinks Brawl will win: only in Nintendo power. |

Re: Game of the Year 2008
For me it'd probably be Metal Gear Solid 4 even though it was somewhat disappointing. I was expecting the game to completely wow me, but it didn't. Very enjoyable non the less though, and it's the only game that came out in 08 that made me want to play through it several times.
Fallout 3 is my #2, but it too disappointed me to some degree. The game is very fun, and very immersive, but the main story is stupid and extremely short. There's still a good 80+ hours of sidequests so I have no problem overlooking that. The game I think will most likely win most goty awards on sites like IGN or Gamespot is GTA IV, but I found the game to be average. There's less to do than there was in San Andreas, the whole cell phone + friends/activities thing was annoying as hell, and there were some serious framerate issues that nobody seems to like talking about. I won't even get into how bad the online multiplayer was.

Except that both games came out in 2006.

Re: Game of the Year 2008
I'd say Little Big Planet (Jeff, I think it should be on your list of nominees, as it has been unanimously revered even by the gaming websites).
If I covet a PS3 it is because of this game. Srsly. Everything about it--the whimsy, the creativity, the ingenuity, the community-based fun--is spectacular. EDIT: For the record, I highly doubt Brawl will win, it is not groundbreaking and somewhat flawed.

Oh yeah... My bad.
Well I would have to vote for Super Smash Bros Brawl for superiority in fighting. ![]()

Re: Game of the Year 2008
Ok, after think about it for a little longer, here's my noms
1) Metal Gear Solid 4---> To win 2) Little Big planet ---> Runner up 3) Resistance 2 ---> Runner up 4) GTAIV ---> Runner up (I dont think it should be even nominated, but it will) 5) Dead Space ---> Could shock us in becoming a runner up 6) Fallout 3 ---> Could shock ME in becoming a runner up 7) Brawl or mario kart ---> I'm sorry, but i dont think these 2 have a chance, but it was best of Nintendo this year.. And there are my picks. I dont knoow the actual number of how many runner ups there are though.

![]() And this thread has got it all wrong. A Game of the Year Thread needs categories. My games of the year: -Best PS3 Game: Metal Gear Solid 4: The Guns of the Patriots -Best DS Game: Professor Layton and the Curious Village -Best PSP Game: Star Ocean: First Departure (Runners up: Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and Patapon) -Best Wii Game: Okami -Best RPG: Tales of Vesperia (Runner up: The World Ends With You, Fable 2) -Best Multiplayer Game: LittleBigPlanet (Runner up: Mario Kart Wii , Super Smash Bros. Brawl) -Best New IP: LittleBigPlanet -Best Downloadable Title: WipeoutHD (A full (amazing) game in a downloadable package.) (Runner up: Braid) -Game of the Year 2008: Metal Gear Solid 4: The Guns of the Patriots That's all I can think of for now, but I'm sure there are more categories.

I wonder how MGS4 would've stood if MGS1-3 didn't exist.
Best Indie game - World of Goo.

Oh cool! That sounds fun, but as you know I have a MAC and I think it said it was only for PC. But I'd highly recommend a PS3, especially if your a RPG fan. I love it! And LBP rocks! I'm currentlt in Physics in school, and it's awesome to try out what I learned in LBP! I hope LBP wins game of the year!
