Cave Story is free for download on PC and coming out on the 3DS with updated 3D graphics sooner or later, I think getting Cave Story right now on WiiWare or DSiWare would be a bad idea.

Thanks. I didn't know that (besides the PC one because I have it). In that case, Pokemon Snap is fun. You can take pictures of pokemon like never before, or at least of 63 of them. If you're into pokemon it's worth the ten dollars.

Re: General Gaming Recommendations - review, rate, critique.

For DS:

Kirby Super Star Ultra. Even if you aren't much of a Kirby fan, I would recommend this game because it's addicting, appealing, and well worth it. Once unlocked, there are over a dozen unique games and sub-games filled with bosses and abilities in this side-scrolling platformer. There is even a mode that allows you to play the same levels again as Meta Knight. I practically have nothing bad to say about this game.

Alice In Wonderland. Hear me out on this one. This is actually a charming game with terrific design, gameplay, and music. You don't control Alice herself but rather four unique characters that you switch between frequently to help her solve puzzles and engage in combat. You can go on to explore the artistic world and find concept art and other content. You may quickly discover that just about everything in this game is clever and likable.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. This game centers around Prince Marth's battle to free his homeland and rescue his kidnapped sister. I found it a solid game for its kind, very tactical and quite difficult. It is presented in a way that makes it fun and unique.

I hope you find one that you like. And if you end up looking for a GC/Wii game, here are some suggestions.

For GC:

The Wind Waker
Star Fox Assault

For Wii:

Red Steel 2
Ōkami
Super Paper Mario
The Conduit
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars
Metroid Prime Trilogy
GoldenEye 007
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
Monster Hunter Tri

Re: General Gaming Recommendations - review, rate, critique.

Hey guys, I'm going on a roadtrip soon and am wondering, what are some good games for the DS that will hold my interest and keep me entertained? I'm looking for something along the lines of an RPG, action/adventure, or platformer. Please, no fighting, puzzle, or racing games, as I am not interested in those genres.

Re: General Gaming Recommendations - review, rate, critique.

There's Devil Survivor.

It's a strategy RPG with a hybrid turn based battle system.
It focuses heavily on storyline and character choices, and has a bunch of alternate endings (a lot of them) so it's fun and has plenty to keep you entertained.
If that sounds like your kind of thing.

L.A. Noire or LBP2?

So, I'm thinking of buying one of these 2 games after school ends, and then I'm going to be getting PS Move with my birthday money (hopefully). The other game I'll probably get at Christmas. Which game do you think is better? I know LBP2 has move support, but I'm kind of leaning toward L.A. Noire, as you can probably tell. What do you guys think?

Don't buy a Move, and get both of the games?

Why would you want a Move anyway?

Re: General Gaming Recommendations - review, rate, critique.

Motion gaming, I would assume.

Personally, I'd go for LBP2. I think you'd get a lot more out of it. The user created levels in that game are just fantastic; its just oozing with content.

This.

But really they're two completely different genres and are incomparable. It depends on what genre you like more. Might as well ask "what's better the 1998 Denver Broncos or A&W Onion rings". If I were you though, I'd go with LA Noire because if you want to get LBP2 I assume you've played LBP1 and therefore LA Noire would be a much more unique experience for you than a sequel, albeit an improved sequel.

Re: General Gaming Recommendations - review, rate, critique.

Wait until there are more Move games to get a Move controller. Right now there isn't anything decent that requires it.

Just get both the games! If you have your heart set on the Move, though, I'd lean towards LA Noire. I have LBP2 and it's fun, but... I'd probably prefer to have LA Noire right now. ;P

Re: General Gaming Recommendations - review, rate, critique.

LA Noire was a massive disappointment for me. I stopped playing when I was probably 1-2 cases from the end. That's how bland it was.

I thought the investigations were going to be smart and complex. Turns out they are basically the same thing over and over again. Once you've completed three to four investigation you've basically seen all the game has to offer in that area. The story itself also goes nowhere, and there's zero character development (seriously, it's impossible to care for the main character). Even the interviewing process is.. meh. Everyone always makes the same facial expressions for each situation (shifty eyes for lie/doubt, straight face for truth) so there's really nothing exciting there either.

Overall I am very surprised that the game received great reviews across the board. Gamer reviews are a lot more mixed, with tons of people agreeing with my viewpoint. I think it should get at least 60-70% just because the idea is awesome, but it gets zero bonus points from me for its execution.

If they just did a better job with the story I would've been able to put up with bland repetitive investigations and I would've be happy to give it an 80 or higher. I really would not have been hard to please. If they had a good story AND varied and complex investigations it would've been my goty easily. It's a shame they failed on so many levels because the I think the idea behind the game is seriously incredible. As it is LA Noire is basically just a facial expression tech demo with fantastic ideas and poor execution :/

Sorry for the rant.

So yeah, I say get LBP2 lol.

Merged with Gaming Recommendations.
