Re: Amazing Final Bosses
I really liked Desann, from Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. He's pretty hard to beat. On Padawan (easiest) difficulty, he's a pushover. But on Jedi Master (hardest) difficulty, he is god-like. Really tough to beat. I could never beat him in Saber to Saber combat at Jedi Master difficulty. I always had to trick him and crush him with the falling pillar.

Re: Amazing Final Bosses
Anyone play P.N.3 from way back not a great game by any means but the boss battles were very fun. The last one is a robot train thing its tough then when you kill it falls into a lower level as its falling to its doom, wings break out of it and you got another form to fight i remember shocked and awed saying how the hell do i fight a flying bird train. IT wasn't the best boss fight i had but was very amazing the style of the game was really very well made.

Re: Amazing Final Bosses
Most any of the Shadow of Colossus battles. They're all epic, but especially the last.
I thought that fighting Death in Castlevania: Lament of Innocence was amazing. It's a familiar fight that's always in Castlevania, but this one was special because it marked the first time (chronologically) and really set up the perpetual Belmont Clan struggle against Dracula and his minions. Also, as noted multiple times, Final Fantasy VI's Kefka oozes awesomeness.

Anyway, I think Ganondorf in basically every game (though OOT stands out the most) is an amazing boss for reasons stated by other members. Like other members, I think that Bowser in Paper Mario and the Shadow Queen in The Thousand-Year Door were fantastic opponents. I'm fortunate that I defeated the Shadow Queen on my first try, challenging as it was. Bowser was particularly good in Super Mario Galaxy, and the final battle against him in Yoshi's Island is unforgettable. I could go on and on, but I'll stop myself here.

Re: Amazing Final Bosses
Jon Irenicus - Baldur's Gate II:
Really, there's not much to say about this one. The man has shown, time and again, that he is a Magnificent Bastard of the first order, capable of turning any situation to his advantage. In addition, he's tortured your entire party, kidnapped one of your members, and has taken over the asylum he was being held in, using it to further torture that party member. However, and this is the chilling part, there is no malice in what he's doing. He's almost forgotten how to really hate things, and you're almost beneath his notice. It makes him like a Lovecraftian horror, he doesn't really care about your party (with two exceptions) you're just a bit useful to him as test subjects. Aliens - Elite Beat Agents Not a really atmospheric set of fights, but they are made of awesome. Not only are the songs great ("Jumpin' Jack Flash" at what must be triple-speed? Hell yeah!) but what little plot there is builds up to an awesome climax, where aliens are literally destroyed by the power of music. It's an excellent finale to an excellent game. Ganondorf - The Wind Waker The fight itself isn't anything much, but this is easily my favourite version of Ganon. He's the most sympathetic of all of them, while still staying perfectly evil. He also destroys you in a fair fight, requiring the use of cheap tactics and teamwork on your end, which just kinda cements how awesome he is. ...and that's about it, actually. There are other games I've beaten that had fun fights against mediocre bosses, or who've had amazing penultimate boss fights, or similar, but I'm not counting those. (for example, the only reason Okami isn't here is because the final boss is, in every sense of the term, a Giant Space Flea from Nowhere. He has no development, no motivation, he's just there trying to kill you.) Actually, I'm probably forgetting one or two, so I guess I'll keep an eye out to see if anyone else's picks job my memory.

Re: Amazing Final Bosses
There was actually an article in Game Informer magazine kinda recently that showed the top 10 final boss fights. Ganon in OoT was one of them

Mother 3
Some other final bosses I enjoyed were Solidus Snake, The Boss, Bowser(SM64 and SMG), and Ganondorf (WW and TP) |

Re: Amazing Final Bosses
Has anyone here ever played Jade Empire? That had a FANTASTIC final boss fight. Hell, the entire endgame was a rush:
The final boss battle plays well, too. You're constantly switching styles, dodging, and trying to conserve you chi and weapon energy. It's a real exciting experience, start to finish. |
