I'm going to take a chance on Judgement whenever I have the spare cash on hand. I don't know if I'll ever get over the character designs though. They're not terrible. Just a little strange for the style of Castlevania I guess.

Having to beat story mode with all characters just to unlock the real finale and my reward is just a text ending, I think I'll just rent it.

I bought judgement and don't regret it. The online mode is fantastic and the only potentially unbalanced thing I've encountered so far is holy water can be used to set up for ridiculous combos. The story is mediocre but you don't get a fighting game for the story. You get it for the gameplay and the gameplay in judgement is good.

Hey, make sure to give me your friend code around Christmas. I'll have this game by then.

Re: The Castlevania Series Thread

I just beat OoE the other day. Now, looking back, I don't think the game was as horridly difficult as I once thought it was. I'll admit some of the bosses were complete pains (Blackmore, Eligor, and the stupid crab come to mind), but it wasn't near as hard as it was when I first started out. Dracula was sort of a let down. I glyph unioned his ass a few times with Dominus Agony equipped and it was over in like 10 seconds. It was still very satisfying though!

Today I'm going to download Super Castlevania IV. So, yay! ^_^

Cool. Random matches take forever to find someone. It's honestly the only flaw in online.

Hey, I did that as well. I went back and fought him without a death ring, dominus agony, or glyph unions, and that made the fight much harder, but beating him the good ol' fashioned way was fun.

Re: The Castlevania Series Thread

I need to try that too. I had the death ring and judgement ring equipped. Really, it was too easy. I tried doing it normally, but I always ended up getting killed during his second phase attacks.

I'm eventually going to do a playthrough with Albus, but not right now. Beating a game once is usually enough for me. I imagine that I will go back and complete the side quests, Training Hall, and Large Cavern though.

Anyone know where I can get the "Vampire Killer" music track and the Whip glyph in Order of Eccleisa?

Re: The Castlevania Series Thread

Oh, nice. A Castlevania thread!

Now that I'm here I should probably list the Castlevanias I've played in order from my favorite to least.

"Classic" Series:

1) Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse
2) Super Castlevania IV
3) Dracula X: Rondo of Blood
4) Castlevania II: Simon's Quest
5) Castlevania
6) Castlevania Adventure II: Belmont's Revenge
7) Castlevania: Bloodlines

"Metroidvania" Series:

1) Symphony of the Night
2) Aria of Sorrow
3) Dawn of Sorrow
4) Circle of the Moon
5) Order of Ecclesia
6) Portrait of Ruin
7) Harmony of Dissonance

But they're all good. I'm currently playing Order of Ecclesia and am somewhere near the end. It's a fun game, but it's only better than Portrait and Dissonance. I think Konami hit their prime on the handhelds with Aria and have since been slowly moving away from the typical Metroidvania formula. Portrait of Ruin made it so the castle wasn't the focus, and Order of Ecclesia did the same, but removed the castle as the hub. If they make another game, I imagine it'll get even closer to the "classic" series. They may remove the map entirely and just make the game a linear progression from one area to the next, only the areas will still be more designed in a "Metroidvania" way, like they are in Order of Ecclesia.

But really, I'm all for that. I don't see Konami hitting another peak using the formula they've used for most of the handheld games. I think it'd be great to see an original title that was more like Rondo of Blood. The closest Konami has gotten to that is only a remake.

Vampire killer is in Ecclesia HQ.

There is no whip glyph since whips are for pansies. :3

Re: The Castlevania Series Thread

Let's see...

I actually got into Castlevania through Dawn of Sorrow. I then felt like I needed more and more of that sweet sidescrolling action RPG-action (interesting sentence there) and got a hold of Portrait of Ruin. I don't play it often, but I'll get through it soon.

What awaits after that? Nothing other than Order of Ecclesia. I have to admit it feels very satisfying that I didn't get into Castlevania on DS when one would have to wait for sequels. In short, yes, I get three cakes at once!

I honestly don't have the patience to go through the old ones, though. I'm way too used to the DS versions. A pity, but hey...

I also think Castlevania has a lot of 3D potential, and yes, I did play the one for the N64 when it was brand new. I enjoyed it to a reasonable degree.

If you enjoy the DS Castlevanias then you really should find a way to obtain at least Circle of the Moon and Aria of Sorrow for the GBA.

Re: The Castlevania Series Thread

I finally downloaded Super Castlevania IV a week or so ago and I've got to say that, for me, it's okay at best. I like the Castlevanias in the Metroidvania vein of the series much better. Super Castlevania IV isn't overly hard or anything. I'm actually not too sure what it is. There's just something about it.

I could see how it would have been really awesome back in 1991, but now it seems pretty lackluster to me. Oh well, I'll play through it all anyway. I'm around the eighth stage I believe.

Dude that game is awesome, wait till you get to the rotating tunnel and the clock tower. The battle with Death is pretty wicked.

Where at in the Ecclesia hall exactly? I only found the "Heart of Fire" record. Is there really no whip glyph? I remember Iga said in an interview there would be one.

I'll keep going with Super Castlevania IV. Maybe it will pick up when I get to those parts. ^__^

Also, there is no whip glyph that I know of in OoE. I never found one at least. As far as the records in the Ecclesia hall, there is one at the top left platform in the area where you can access the save point and the area that Barlowe is in. The other is in the area that you initially trained in at the beginning of the game. I believe that is right. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, you're right, but you have to crouch down in those spots to make the chests appear.

This is Lord Golbez using Flink's account, btw.

IGA never claimed there would be a whip glyph.

On a different note, does no one play Judgment online?

I do. It takes me about five minutes sometimes to find someone. I blame critics like X-play for giving bull**** reviews that scare people away from trying the game.
