Visuals are looking AMAZING, not to mention I am very excited that this game is going to turn based, instead of real time. I asume it will be some interesting new take on active time battle, as they said that even selecting an attack will have tension in it, I asume they mean that you will want to do it quickly because of the ATB? or they could do something like the longer you take to select an attack, the more HP is drained (so less HP will be drained for quick thinking, or more will be drained for taking time to scroll all the way down the list of spells to find doomsday or something). Whatever it is, I am excited for this game!

Nice to see some battle stuff. LOL, though. The health bar is pretty much identical to Crisis Core's. The battle system looks a bit more interesting, however, based on the menu commands.

Expect to hear a little more in December during the Jump Fest and the Re: Replay Cloud Book/Movie. Of course, the game won't be playable, even though a demo is coming out in March.

Neither, the demo comes with Advent Children Complete.

Game looks amazing so far. I think I'll be getting a 360 for Christmas, and this will definitely be on my watch since it's coming out for it.

Scans of the second Cloud Book have hit the net. Details and the scans below:

The CLOUD Message scans have already surfaced on the internet a day before the books official release. It contains nine Final Fantasy XIII Compilation scans including "Creators Messages" for all three of the games as well as what looks like a drawing board showing character artwork, environment designs and even a world map. So out of this what's new?

Final Fantasy XIII
Well we can confirm a very blurry new character for Final Fantasy XIII which I assume has been intentionally blurred as everything else is clear.
Someone has drawn a character doing 99999 damage which possibly confirms they intend the game to break the damage limit.
A new picture of Cocoon can be seen as well as a new area we haven't seen before,.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII
Gameplay! Actual gameplay. It's very small but I don't think anyone can dispute what it is. There are a few images showing Noctis playing through several areas. One image shows him in an area with two clones of himself. I assume that's just for development.
There are lots of new environments to which range from the cities to mountainous plains.

Final Fantasy Agito XIII
A full view of the world map can be seen.
Chocobos are confirmed and they look like their counterparts in Final Fantasy X.
Artwork of walking tanks reminiscent of Final Fantasy VI can be seen in the top right.
The artwork for a new character is also in the bottom right partly covered by some strange symbols.
Lastly some more new environments can be seen in two images.

No word on when to expect the RE: Replay DVD footage of the games to hit the net. In other news, Fabula Nova Crystallis will be making an appearance at this month's Jump Fest, which I believe is on the 20th. Of course, the Closed Megatheater will also be attending.

FF-VersusXIII.net posted a bunch of scans from a Japanese book last night that, if you look closely, seems to reveal some in-game shots of Final Fantasy Versus XIII. And, not surprisingly, it looks an awful lot like Crisis Core.



You have the one dude running around with a sword, people standing around near him, and a stack of menus in the upper-left corner. This sort of confirms my suspicion than Crisis Core was a prototype for Square Enix's future Final Fantasy titles, or at least the action-y spin-offs. The company's been trying to make action games for a while now and doing a piss-poor job of it with the likes of Dirge of Cerberus and, I'm sorry to say, Kingdom Hearts. But Crisis Core did a respectable job of reconciling real-time gameplay with a menu-driven system without feeling like yet another hackneyed Monster Hunter clone, so it's no surprise to see the company mining it for all it's worth. Birth By Sleep feels more like CC than your typical Kingdom Hearts (and is all the better for it), and Final Fantasy Agito XIII's new facelift seems to have changed the game from turn-based card game to something along the lines of Crisis Core as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see the new Parasite Eve take a similar tack.

Of course, this begs the question of how long it will take before we're sick of the Crisis Core format. I'm guessing it'll be by the end of next year...which is a shame, 'cause there's no way we'll be playing Versus in 2009.

A bigger concern is just how well the Crisis Core style will work for a console game. One reason its system worked so well on PSP is because it broke the adventure into tiny bite-sized pieces that were good for portable play. I discovered during the course of reviewing the game that it doesn't hold up as well for extended periods -- those side missions became insanely repetitive after an hour or two.

But I won't write off Versus just yet; part of Crisis Core's problem was that it regurgitated the same assets and missions over and over again, and the majority of the story missions were incredibly limited and linear. It wasn't until the final dungeon that the world design finally felt like a real Final Fantasy, with a series of huge caves and various objectives to complete. If all of Versus can feel like that, it could be a pretty respectable adventure -- and you'd think that as long as it's been in development, they'll take the time to flesh it out properly. But man, you really never know with Square Enix these days....

I hope each game isn't that much like Crisis Core though, even though the PSP games are all using its engine. The engine wasn't THAT good. It has a lot of potential, but Crisis Core's gameplay itself was only OK.

Versus looks SOO good, though I'm not crazy about the action-RPG gameplay that it will bring. Same goes for Agito. I wish it went with something closer to turn-based. There are too few Final Fantasy-caliber turn-based RPGs these days.

argh...I want some actual gameplay footage dammit! Sure the CG cutscenes and whatnot look excelent but I wanna see that battle system in action already!

I can't help but get major Star Wars vibes from the new FFXIII trailer.

Which kind of annoys me, but it still looks amazing, Versus on the other hand has been my most anticipated game in forever since the first time I saw it!

Those are the best graphics I've ever seen, hopefully the it actually looks like that during gameplay.

Trailers were great, especially Versus. I am really looking forward to both, but Versus just seems to appeal way more to me at the moment. Sucks since it is so long away from release.

Both of the trailers were awesome. This will be one of the godliest RPG mini-series yet.

One thing that really caught my attention, however, was the music.

Although FFXIII is sounding great, is it being done by the same guys who made the music for XII? Because I can hear hints of XII's style here and there. I mean, not that XII's music was bad, but it was just far less memorable than other examples in the series. As long as the background music is more interesting than XII's, however, I don't really mind who it's made by.

Versus XIII is sounding good, as well; I assumed it was composed by the same guy from Kingdom Hearts, and from the credits, it looks like I assumed right.

Final Fantasy XIII is being composed by Masashi Hamauzu, who was one of the three composers for Final Fantasy X. It sounds a lot like Star Wars, which is why it reminds you of XII. Hamauzu is usually more memorable than XII's soundtrack, so hopefully XIII will have a better soundtrack than the one trailer song leads you to believe. Heck, the original XIII trailer song was great, so I don't think we have anything to worry about.

I think the reason that FFXII's soundtrack wasn't as memorable was because the game itself wasn't that memorable as well. Personally I liked FFXII, but most people hate the game with a passion, so I would assume that to be the case.

But I can't wait to get this game into my hands. After waiting for so long, I might actually start to cry tears of joy when I hold the game on the release date.

I actually found XII's soundtrack to be memorable. Sakimoto frankly just doesn't make bad soundtracks. The problem more was the lack of emotion or even emotional correlation in the game/music that made the soundtrack not stand out as much as X and previous titles.
