Re: Are games worth what we pay?
It really depends on the game, but for the most part I find the prices to be very fair. Certain games I'll wait and get used because I don't think they are worth full value, but then there are games that I'd spend $100+ on if I was forced to.

Soccer moms who do not know any better and just buy whatever looks "fun" for their child to play so they don't have to deal with actually raising them.
It's sick, really.

Re: Are games worth what we pay?
Some Wii games I don't think need to be that high. They aren't worth it.
Also, what is wrong with the carnival game? For kids, there is nothing wrong with it.... geez you people are picky. As for the price of that game, yah, ridiculous, but for more popular games like Metroid 3, Mario Galaxy, TP, and Brawl and those, the price is justified. |

"Now budgets can easily reach millions of dollars, even if middleware and pre-built game engines are used. Most professional games require one to three years to develop, further increasing the strain on budgets."
So, yes, but lower-budget developers can't compete with higher-budget ones without high pricing. |

Are games worth what we pay?
It depends on the game, methinks. Even then, over fifty dollars is too much. I don't care how long and how much content it has. Heck, forty dollars for a little game I stick in my DS is seriously pushing it. Most games I enjoy second-hand because I can actually afford them at times. Twenty dollars for a video game is more like it for me. Yes, I know that the high prices are justifiable because of the development teams and all that.

And yes, I am picky. I do not really have a choice when it comes to spending money. Quote:

Hey, does anyone know how profit works when it comes to renting games? My brother would mass-rent games on a very frequent basis from Blockbuster. Apparently, he was not the only one who did that. I am just wondering how much of the cut goes back to the game creators. |

Re: Are games worth what we pay?
Games than OoT were worth much more than so.
Most games are worth less than 50$, though. And, in Sweden we already pay twice as much for games. Damn. X_X

Hence the fact that I can be picky.

Good point. Quote:
I was actually like that my first time on my first play through Banjo-Kazooie so many years ago. I do not know what the case is for you, but I got stuck at this one location simply because I didn't pay attention and look up. Even without that, the "completion factor" - getting all the jigsaw puzzles (and much, much later on, the cheats and eggs, even though they were rather pointless) - and sense of accomplishment is enough for me when it comes to determining the value of a game. |

Re: Are games worth what we pay?
From the developer's standpoint' most good games are a bargain, as it's practically a given that they take 2+ years of work and cost millions when the whole project is completed.
Now from the consumer's point of view, most games are definitely not a bargain. Pretty much 80% or more of all notable titles have about 8 hours of content in them without multiplayer or replay incentives. |

The indie game scene is going to boom in the next few years, mostly due to online distribution from services such as XBLA, PSN, Steam, and so on. Developers won't have to go through retail channels and publishers, saving costs and middlemen, and deliver what they want directly to their audience.

Re: Are games worth what we pay?
Zelda games and most mario and metroid games are worth the price and usually dont go down in price because people will spend the money on them, but why should we take a chance on a third party game that could suck? I would rather shell out money for games I know are going to be good, like mario and zelda than take a chance on a new game that I might like.
