....Right, should I get Brawl?

Before you even comment or otherwise mock me for not owning Brawl, please read the whole thing. Thank you. >_>

Brawl is awesome. But there is one reason why I don't own a copy, and why I am debating against myself whether to get it or not.

Wi-fi. I can't get it on my Wii, and everyone these days knows that Brawl is all about the online competition.

See, the problem is this. My room where I keep my computer is on a lower floor, and my Wii is upstairs. We do not have a wireless connection here, so I have to use a Wi-fi USB Connector to access wi-fi. Now it's possible that my USB connector can make the Wii become online despite them not being on the same floor. But I'm not entirely sure and I never bothered to test it out.

But that isn't the only thing. Usually after maybe 30 minutes of not being used, my computer will go into hibernation mode. During my experiences of playing Animal Crossing online and not say, moving my computer mouse for awhile, I had found that my Wi-fi will also shut down and end all communications when the computer goes into this mode. Unfortunately I can't be at two places at the same time, I can't move my computer mouse around while being upstairs playing my Wii.

Other people have told me that Brawl is still pretty good even without Wi-fi. But I'm still not very sure. What do you think?

First off, the Wifi USB Connector sends a wireless signal to your wii, so even if your Wii is upstairs and your USB Connector is downstairs, your wii will still pick up the internet connection, but it won't be that strong of a connection (within 5 meters is a pretty good connection).

And about the hibernation mode thing, you can go into your Control Panel, and turn off the hibernation mode on your PC.

Like me, me computer is upstairs with the wireless router, and my wii is downstairs, and my wii gets internet connection, but it isn't the strongest connection because of the distance my wii is from my wireless router.

But your USb Connector will work though, and just turn off hibernation mode on your PC

Re: ....Right, should I get Brawl?

Ok, so here's my opinion: Yes.
I have the WiFi connection, but I don't use it much. Most of the time, I'm doing everything solo and occasionally my sister will play with me. Even without using the WiFi that much, it's an awesome game. There are so many things for you to do on your own, and that'll take up the vast majority of your playing time for the most part.

Re: ....Right, should I get Brawl?

Hmm... so I can turn off hibernation mode, well that's a good thing to know. Now I don't have to play my DS online so close to the computer. >_> Thank you, that'll be good to know, I'll just have to get a screensaver.

Well my room isn't that far to the upstairs, so I guess that'll work out. Thank you both.

No. Save your money for something better. Brawl is good fun for a bit but soon becomes another one of those games which are only fun at parties.

Re: ....Right, should I get Brawl?

Online multiplayer is probably the last thing you should get Brawl for since it sucks so much.

Not really, when you get online with brawl, its not "only fun at parties".

Yea to turn off hibernation mode you have to go and fiddle around in your control panel.

EDIT: Yea well, brawl online isn't the greatest...to tell ya the truth.

Hmm, I see.

Well you know, I'm pretty sure everyone says that when others are talking about games that are primarily about the multiplayer. :/

Wi-Fi sucks on Brawl. Debate with yourself = Over.

I'd still get it though.

You must read more carefully. I specifically said the online multiplayer sucks.

Re: ....Right, should I get Brawl?

If you have plenty of friends and/or are willing to put up with the online lag, then buy it. If you can't play multiplayer, don't get it. It's like buying Halo 3, you want it for the multiplayer.

Re: ....Right, should I get Brawl?

^^^ though:

- the stage builder mode makes the game last for AGES (especially with and SD card. I have a 4GB one, and each stage takes up 1 block. So i could make 7800 stages if i wanted.)
- doing the entire subspace emissary with all the cutscenes
- getting all of the characters
- getting all of the stages
- doing all the events on highest difficulties and unlocking more events
- unlocking all the different game modes and rules
- doing all of the vast amount of challenges to unlock items
- getting all of the trophies
- getting all of the stickers
- getting the entire soundtrack
- getting highscores in homerun
- playing through all the multiman brawl challenges
- THEN playing online in brawls, homeruns, spectating and tournaments

... IS enough reason to still get the game. This isn't even to mention the offline tournaments you can set up, as well as special Brawl rules.

Seriously, get the game. So much content it's unreal.

Re: ....Right, should I get Brawl?

Just get Brawl for the local multiplayer and singleplayer. The online sucks IMO, it has too much lag and too little communication possiblities.
Mario Kart Wii, now thát's a game you should buy for the online.

I unfortunately don't have friends locally. My parents aren't into that kind of thing and my brother is only five. Besides, I don't have extra Wiimotes. :/

Get it. I still enjoy it even when I'm alone. I suggest buying a GC controller with it.

Luckily I still have a GCN controller from the good, old GCN days. Thanks for the suggestion anyhow.

Re: ....Right, should I get Brawl?

Hmm, while were talking about connection and wii, I enter the password to my wii, but then it tells me I can't connect.

I have no extra cables. I just go into internet settings and make a new connection but it doesn't work. My compooper is on the 1st floor and my wii on the 2nd.

Re: ....Right, should I get Brawl?

There is a lot to do with single player, or two player without wi-fi. It's been common for me to have trouble with wi-fi and I have verizon fios, which is super fast. It gives me lots of trouble and I haven't been able to connect for months now, so I just gave up. But yeah, there's plenty to do in game. I would say go for it.

If you liked previous brawl games and they had fractions of the content, then you'll love this one, seeing as the others never had wi-fi ;D

Re: ....Right, should I get Brawl?

Well, you should really.

Why?
Here are some reasons:

Subspace Emissary. It is sometimes cheesy, but it definitely is very fun.
If you like a sidescroller, Smash Bros/Nintendo style, Brawl is for you.

Trophy collecting. If you're the player who likes completing an entire game 100%, or if you like obtaining in game things, or simply want a mode to pass the time, then Brawl is for you.

Stage builder: MAKE YOUR OWN BRAWL LEVELS WOAH.
Well, yes, it is limited, but hey. You can still make some great contraptions to fight on with it. If you don't mind fighting the CPUs, but still, I enjoy doing that on the game as well.

And WiFi. With Anyone is lame, but there are plenty Friend Code sites for you to use to find other people on your skill level.
Like Smashboards, friendcode.com, etc.
And, of course, ZU. This place has a nice big Friend Code exchange thread!

So, yes. Get brawl. Nao.
