Fire Emblem (again)

PoR on easy? Really? Is that even fun? It seems like it'd just be boring.

I think enemies have slightly lower stats. It's easier to get experience and bonus experience. Enemy units act retarded on easy as well, making dumb choices and giving you more room for error. There's also not as many of them. The fog of war thing on that one chapter where you meet Calill is actually gone. There is no fog. And lastly, on the last chapter, Ashnard doesn't do his revive/transformation thing once KOed.

Sounds boring, as I said. I can't imagine having that much trouble. Normal was tough, but it wasn't that tough.

I go a couple chapters into the game on Hard and it didn't seem too tough.

None of them are tough, and easy modes is a bit too easy. I don't think normal was that tough. Sure, it got you to think a bit rather than just rushing your army into the fray like madmen, but it was very doable. The only real sticklers for me on Hard were when I:
-dumped Soren and used Ilyana instead
-got stuck with Ena and had to go against Ashnard
-used Fixed Growths mode without knowing what I was doing and ended up with sucky stats

I never said RD was the hardest. I said it's harder than most modern games. Thrica 776 probably is harder, seeing as older games are usually more challenging new games.

The toughest time I've had so far in PoR was chapter 17. Not only does it have 4 parts, but part 3 was tedious. I had trouble keeping Ike alive the whole time because all the enemies were ganging up on him and I think because he was guarding Leanne, he wouldn't dodge. The mages were annoying, plus the enemy had my group vastly outnumbered.

Why didn't you surround Ike? Gaurd him? Keep him out of Mage range? Line the outside with tanks and decoys?

And chapter 17 was pretty awesome. That's where most, almost all, of my units classed up.

Most older games were way more restrictive, not in all cases necessarily harder. Plus we as gamers have grown much more experienced over time and have become more accustomed to current-gen game designs.

I tried doing all that. There were just too many enemy soldiers. >.<

Next time I'll do much better, though. I'm confident.

Now, though, Ike is in a class of his own. He's my best unit, with his strong blows, Aether (which he uses quite a bit), and critical hits. It's too bad Ike didn't use Aether against the Black Knight. >.>

When I played through PoR Ike had something like 900 kills. Everyone else had... like none.

Ike sure has killed a bunch of enemy units on my file though. :]

Ike turns into a god near the end of the game. One you get that gold sword the game isn't even hard anymore.

Have you ever done any of the trial (extra) maps that you get once you complete the game? Seriously, all you have to do for some of them is just send Ike out there by himself, maybe with an Elixir and/or another unit. He's ridiculous.

Healing items? Hehe. Are you kidding? He dodges everything, and if he doesn't it only does like 1 damage.

I just tried defeating him again, and Ike did the same thing from the first attempt. He didn't dodge and didn't use Aether. He's also been hit a few times by the enemies before going to face the BK. Lots of enemies did at least a few points of damage to him, but thankfully enough, I discovered Ike could use this one sword I had put on him from a distance and make it restore his HP.

Oh, and the golden sword is called Ragnell.

You don't have to kill him. In fact, I think I was in the middle of killing him and the time limit ran out or something. Turn limit. Whatever.

Yeah, but because Ike didn't dodge, he was history before the turn limit ended. And you DO have to defeat him. He just doesn't die.

I don't think so. I don't remember ever killing him. Hell, there was only like one level where you even CAN fight him.

That's an annoying battle.

Lots of enemies did at least a few points of damage to him, but thankfully enough, I discovered Ike could use this one sword I had put on him from a distance and make it restore his HP.

Like I said, that battle is just plain annoying. It's based on luck. Winning requires you to activate Aether several times in the battle. If it doesn't happen, or if the Black Knight unleashes Luna too many times, then you're screwed.

And no, you do not have to defeat the Black Knight. I think you're getting confused with the key fact that you cannot die against the Black Knight. If you take too long when fighting him, then the battle ends and you don't win. Or you can just take several steps back and leave the room, ending the battle by simply running away.

I've just recently desided that I WANT THIS GAME. Only partially because Ike is in it (BACK OFF).

Tywar has recently been playing a lot of Sacred Stones and some of the first Fire Emblem. Also makes me jealous-- My computer sucks compared to his. Can't even play what's already on it.

Anyway, from what I've seen of Radiant Dawn and Ty playing Sacred Stones, I'm eager to try it myself!
