Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes

Anyone have this game or planning to get and/or rent it? I've heard some pretty good things about this game, and during the march break I'II probably rent it.

Its not supposed to be a completely new game, just a remake with better graphics, more actions (e.g stuffing guards in lockers), and longer and more detailed cut scenes. It sounds pretty cool, what do you think?

Re: Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes

I have it, and I was going to post some impressions (possibly even a review) a little earlier, but I forgot about it.

I'll say it right now, though, that the additions have a much bigger impact than you think. The aiming in first-person makes a profound difference, stealth is much more of a requirement, enemies are quite difficult even on the easy setting, and the hiding of bodies is also quite a large change. The boss fights are also different this time around. I just finished fighting Psycho Mantis, and I must say that he's quite a bit more fun this time around, if a little on the easy side.

Graphics-wise, everything is much nicer. Aside from a few weak moments, the animation is probably the best I've seen in a game, and while the facial animation isn't the greatest ever, it's far from horrible. Particle effects are also some of the nicest I've seen, and the bump-mapping looks great. There are also many filters used, mainly motion blur. The only gripe I have is the framerate, but even then, it's a small one. Most of the time (I'd guess around 75%) the game runs at a smooth 60 fps, but things tend to get choppy in combat situations, although it never really effects gameplay all that much, and I've never seen it go below 30 fps. These dips tend to also happen more often in outdoor areas, which are also much less frequent. Once you get used to it, you won't even notice the occasional drops.

Sound-wise, things are great. Voice-acting is again top-notch, although some characters' voices have changed (Mei Ling no longer has an accent, for instance), and there are a few awkward pauses. The music is perfect and fits every situation very nicely, although it's not quite as epic as what's seen in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. The audio quality is also very high, which is nice.

Anyway, I'll probably have something more detailed a bit later. Suffice to say that this is a must-buy, so long as you're not going to be offended by some of the more mature plot elements, as well as the somewhat excessive blood (though this may be turned off).

I don't know if I am getting it or not, but it seems very interesting. I'll try nonetheless, i want to rub it in my friends face since he doesn't have a GC (yes, i have friends, btw O>o )

The games looks awesome, though, won't be surprised if it gets perfect scores from multiple experts

Re: Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes

Oh, it's not getting perfect scores, not at all. It's actually the lowest-rated Metal Gear Solid game so far (one of three, including the original), but people are also saying that it's the best yet. However, it doesn't really evolve what was introduced in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty all that much, and the things like somewhat analogous controls (only one walk/run speed, for instance) and static camera angles drag things down a bit. The boss fights are also generally a little on the easy side, though they're far from a breeze.

First timers may think that it's a awesome game, but to the vet that played the original, it's not.

True, it's not as great when you've played the original, but it's definetly still great fun, and one could claim that it is superior in just about every aspect. Obviously since plot is so integral to the series, if you know it, then some of the "oomph" factor is going to be lost. That doesn't stop it from being a must-buy, though.

Re: Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes

Yes the Twin Snakes is not getting perfect reviews, but dont listen to them. I bought it the day it came out and its amazing. Dont hesitate to buy this game! The graphics and gameplay are amazing. oh by the way Sear, i heard that when you beat the game in extreme mode (have to beat hard mode) That there is something called Real mode (could be called something else, i cant remember). And in this mode if you are even SEEN your last save is deleted and you have to start the game all over.... That sounds damn near impossible, not to mention harder everything with fewer rations etc...
