Is there a reason most gamers are men?

I think there a very important distinction between "Girl gamer" and "Gamer girl.

A girl gamer is a gamer whose game habits are defined by being a girl, i.e. plays games like Bejeweled and Nintendogs.

A gamer girl is a girl whose habits are defined by being a gamer, i.e. indistinguishable for most male gamers as far as gaming preferences go.

Women are too stupid to figure out the controls. [/sexist comment]

They don't have the time because they're in bed with me. [/perverted comment]

Whee! Now that that is out of the way:

I have no idea. My girlfriend is heavily into FPSes and shooters, but dislikes almost every other genre there is for no real reason, and almost no other girl IRL that I know play console games. I think it is because most of the 12+ gaming market is aimed at males - there aren't really any feminine games that are also mature.

Well I think it's because most video games don't have ideas that would attract a woman to buy/play them(most of those being a mystery to me.)
Halo (Shooting, pwning massacring, maiming, trash-talking, etc.)
SUper Smash Bros (fighting, spinning, smashing, cussing, wavedashing,etc)
The pattern continues.

Funny, I've always seen it this way:

A gamer girl is a girl who think that they're special because they play Halo and The Sims, and think they deserve extra attention and should have TV spots on G4.

example: "IM A GIRL AND I PLAY GAMES"

A girl gamer is a girl that plays games.

example: "I heard you're throwing a LAN party next week? I can bring some new Warcraft 3 and CounterStrike maps if you want."

Maybe Zelda is hardcore, but not Mario and Pokemon. They're cartoony, aren't very hard to play, and have no real violence or anything like that at all. I define a hardcore game as pretty much anything with a teen rating or above, doesn't look cartoony, and at least has some form of violence or fighting like the SSB series, Fire Emblem, etc.

Also, what is your avatar a picture of? Every time I see it it seems very pornographic, to say the least.

The difficulty drop has become visible. In Mario Party, the first one, we still have trouble beating easy and medium CPUs sometimes. In 5 and 6, after having them for a year, we can usually beat the hard CPUs, not the expert ones though. On DS, we can now at least tie with the expert CPUs in any mini game. In Mario Party 8, we could beat them at any mini game a week after getting the game. Nintendo is making everything easier and easier. It's stupid. I blame the new wave of "girl gamers" for this. They aren't gamers. They're game destroyers.

Because Mario Party is a spinoff series that we've grown to expect depth and challenge from.

All is not lost, though. Super Mario Galaxy was harder than Super Mario 64. (Arguably easier than SMS, but only because of the damned blue coins) Zelda: PH was probably the hardest 3D Zelda game ever made, and Brawl on Intense mode is far, far from easy.

Whats wrong with writing game reviews? Being a game reviewer not only requires the ability to understand the technical aspects of gaming, but also the adeptness to play and complete games, and be able to understand the artistic side of games, and be able to write well enough to keep people interested.
