Re: So let's talk about Nintendo.

Let me explain why I think Nintendo not only sucks, but it terrible for the gaming industry as far as image is concerned:

Nintendo no longer makes games that can hold one's imagination or attention for very long. Gone are complexity and depth to game design, or even decent writing and great art (with an exception of a few titles here and there). Nintendo's big games now are just small distractions; like WiiSports or WiiFit. They have no depth, they are cheap, they can't be considered art or even worthy brainteasers. Why? Because that's all these casual gamers know or want; small distractions--shallow experiences that don't require you to think too hard.

Because of this, the gaming industry has taken a massive LEAP backwards. I'm talking Atari 2500 leap backwards. Casual games are just shallow, fruitless distractions. This is after other consoles and games moved so far beyond thisl having games that tell stories, have complex level design, and wonderful artstyles. These shallow casual games are mearly lazy mini-games that you'd play in real games as a small distraction from the main quest. Instead now developers are making full games out of this.

The mainstream games are so dumbed down, it's insulting to the gaming industry. And Nintendo does nothing but cater to these casual gamers. Now, other companies have jumped on the bandwagon. It's hurting the image of gaming.

It's easy to use. That's about it.

I'd play more if I had a chance or cared. And while the bikes put everyone on "even ground" that doesn't make it fun. There's no real different playstyles then. Granted it is a racing game and it's not a humongous issue, but the bikes just felt like they replaced the karts and killed the potential variety.

Tight. So you deserve long explanations for why I feel how I feel about this game, but you can just call me ignorant and laugh it off. :/

You forgot that part where it has lots of features. It can't be argued.

Hell, it's online system is actually better than most racers on 360 or PS3.

What variety was there before? You either played as a lightweight or middleweight, as a heavy you were screwed. At least now the Bikes give you greater manuverability, while the boost and resiliency factors are still very much in place for the racers; it's just that now no character or vehicle flat-out sucks.

I believe we're talking about the online system at this point, and your failure to see how Kart Wii's is significantly better than DS's and overall well done.

???

Burnout has one of the easiest online features I've ever seen. You hit right on the D-pad ingame and can then create or join a room. Thing is you never leave in game, you still can play the game as if you were alone or you can use your friends to complete multiplayer challenges, or start up races. Plus with a new update you can start up a road rage event anytime you want. Call me crazy, but i think that pretty much annilates mk online.(oh yeah there's voice chat too)

Re: So let's talk about Nintendo.

When I say "most 360 or PS3 racers", that means not all.

The current gen Burnouts, in my opinion, have the best online features for a racer yet.

I preferred the kart variety on DS over Wii.

What? Nintendo is bad for the image of games? Ha, haven't heard that one before.
As far as the mainstream press are concerned video games are addictive rape and murder simulators that are destroying the minds of our youth and turning them into killing machines.
I'd say people thinking that games are "shallow" is a step up from that honestly.

I have.

Either that, or turning them into mindless vegtables. They certainly arn't accepted on the same level as books or movies, at any rate, and at the least are generally seen as a hobby exclusivly for spotty teenagers with no girlfriends.

Well, to be honest, if it is the casual games that are getting the rest of the population to actually play games in the first place, then they won't veiw them as shallow. It is only the gamers that see them as shallow.

So, yeah, basically I agree. They are certainly not hurting the image of gaming, and they could possibly be improving it. At very least they are getting others to see the fun in gaming.

Re: So let's talk about Nintendo.

Well, depending on how things go, Nintendo will either establish themselves as a really innovative toy maker or a company who can take the basic innovations from toys like Wii Sports and Wii music and put it in something with the depth that we're all looking for. What can we really do other than wait?

Toad did get the monster truck kart. That was really cool.

I'm impartial towards the bikes. Waluigi gets a bike in Mario Kart DS. That was awesome, and any character could ride it. But for Wii, the bikes are like their own class or something, instead of something to be including in the variety of karts, which I find very odd.

At the same time, I appreciate the effort in Nintendo trying to shake things up a bit for Mario Kart. What I'm saying is that yes, the bikes are fun, but they aren't exactly new since Mario Kart DS already broke those boundaries.

Re: So let's talk about Nintendo.

I'm going to end the Mario Kart discussion and say that Mario Kart 64 is better then every other game in the series.
