Re: So let's talk about Nintendo.

I think what the probelm is that nintendo needs to strike a balance, you know make casual games and as well focus on those core titles to keep their long time fans happy. Right now they focusing a little too much on the casual side.

Another thing is that nintendo needs to tell thirdparty companies to make better products. For example the Wii got the **** Soulcalibur Legends while the 360 and PS3 are getting the awsome Soulcaibur 4

You think Nintendo is focusing too much on the "casual" side.

Re: So let's talk about Nintendo.

One huge problem is the Wii's power. Sure, many gamers (like me) may not care what the graphics look like, but 3rd parties do. It must be hard and time-consuming to downgrade the visuals of games for the Wii, and thus, most multiplatform games are only on 360 and PS3. It could also be coupled with the difficulty of mapping the controls to the Wii-mote. I hate to admit it, but Nintendo screwed themselves in that respect when they went with the Wii's design.

So, it's not obvious when the only games they showcase are a Shaun White snowboarding game, a new Wii Sports, Wii Music, and a new Animal Crossing, and then just say "oh, and we're working on new Mario, Zelda, and Pikmin, but have nothing to show for it lol"?

I would think that you of all people would understand that casual games are easier to make than hardcore games, so it takes longer to makes Mario, Zelda, or Pikmin. They said they are working on it, so they are working on it. It isn't the end of the world because they didn't show a trailer or a playable demo.

People are very much overreacting over nothing.

We're probably not even going to see a Mario on the Wii, seeing as how the good 3D platformer Mario games are usually a once-come generation thing. Meaning we probably won't even see a full fledged Mario game until Wii 2. Zelda, I guess will be coming out, but I wouldn't count on it until late 2009, mid 2010ish at the least. Pikmin is probably in the same circumstance as the next Zelda, hell I don't even see what people like in Pikmin it really isn't that great.

Also you can't deny that the casual game projects are of more priority to Nintendo right now, E3 07, GDC 08, and E3 as of now are evidence of this. I mean come on last year they spent 30 minutes demonstrating Wii Fit, and gave Brawl a 15 second teaser, that's an obvious shift in crowds Nintendo is catering too.

I don't think it's the end of the world, but you'd just think they'd present a teaser or something just to maintain good faith. But, judging from their comments, they don't even realize what a lot of gamers want from them, priority-wise, which is a shame.

Re: So let's talk about Nintendo.

Fun-Tyler, they heavily hinted at a Galaxy sequel. So we will probably get another Mario on the Wii.

Re: So let's talk about Nintendo.

I'm not totally upset. I was wishing for a new Zelda game, or possibly some other new game (Donkey Kong ADVENTURE GAME, mayhaps?) besides Animal Crossing. I wasn't thrilled with the first one - it was amusing for a time, but it gets old after the 75th fossil you dig up to find you already have it.

However, games take a while to create. I'm not going to hold my breath for anything.

Pikmin 3 WAS announced later. Not at the conference. That's pretty cool.

Now, about Gamecube: Was it really a failure? Let's see:
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Soul Calibur II
LoZ: Wind Waker (and Twilight Princess)
Pikmin (and Pikmin 2)
Tales of Symphonia
Mario Kart: Double Dash
Metroid Prime (and Metroid Prime 2)
Fire Emblem 9
Paper Mario: TTYD

...and more. With all of those great games, how can you even consider it a failure (particularly when at least 75% of the member of this forum have played Melee and thus soiled themselves for Brawl)?

Speaking of, the Wii:
LoZ: Twilight Princess
Super Paper Mario
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Super Mario Galaxy
Metroid Prime 3
Fire Emblem 10
VIRTUAL CONSOLE (which is a godsend for those who don't own a working NES, SNES, N64, or any of the other systems)
Pikmin 3 (soon)

...and more. And we're only in its second year.

So maybe this year's E3 was a let down for Nintendo fans. So what? Give it time. You kids have to learn to be patient. You can't always get what you want (but if you try sometimes you just might find you get what you need =P ).

ALSO: You remember last time they did a "teaser" to show the graphics? That Zelda thing where Link fought Ganondorf in a sword-fight, and everyone thought it would be the new Zelda, and then Wind Waker came out and half of the gaming population crapped bricks? Yeah, THAT'S why they don't do that. When they start working on something, it'll leak. Just wait.

What Miyamoto said about Galaxy 2, should be taken with little grain of salt.

Soul Calibur II was also for the PS2 and Xbox. Twilight Princess was on the Wii as well.

And about 11 great games for a 6 year life span, is horrid.

And the system was failure primarily due to ****ty sales, the kiddy image, and piss poor 3rd party support.

Again Twilight Princess wasn't exclusive so it doesn't count. Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn was horrible compared to it's predecessors. As well as Super Paper Mario. Virtual Console is nothing great, considering I can get these games free using an Emulator. And Pikmin 3 isn't coming out soon, I doubt it, maybe in late 2009.

Re: So let's talk about Nintendo.

Nintendo doesn't necessarily "suck". They've finally found a big cash cow in women and children. I say in twenty years, when the "hardcore" market is the new low point, we'll see a surge of these amazing games for another twenty years.

A vicious cycle indeed. I'm willing to wait it out, as long as they release a decent Zelda/Metroid/Pikmin title in these casual years.

Re: So let's talk about Nintendo.

The only good games that are exclusively for the wii are:
Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Metroid Prime 3 Corruption
Mario Kart Wii
Super Mario Galaxy
Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess (although it's also for the GC)

The rest are focused towards casual gamers and for the family. So in the course of 2 years for the wii, 5 reallly good games are out for it...that's not good.
