Animal Crossing: City Folk Speculation Thread

we all know animal crossing wii is coming. we just don't know when. Hopefully it will be announced at this years E3. this thread is for speculation on new features gameplay elements etc. my list of wanted features:

Wi-Fi features:
-VOICE CHAT IS A MUST. animal crossing is the perfect game to introduce voice chat to the wii. i see no reason why they shouldn't do it.
-trading items and sending letters without being in a friends town. this one is obvious and im sure will be part of the game.
-some kind of Ebay-like auctioning function. think the GTS from Pokemon D&P but for animal crossing. maybe with the ability to bid on items instead of having a set price.
-maybe some sort of MMO type hub world where you could meet people and trade items in person and invite people to your town. among other things.
-NO. FRIEND. CODES. PLEASE.

In game features:
-fully customizable characters. instead of a randomly chosen face at the start. possibly miis? (they could be animal-crossing-fied)
-ability to get jobs. nothing you would be required to do or you lose the job. just something like the begining of the other games where you work for tom nook. or some other way to earn some quick bells.
-motion based tools. maybe not a good idea but it could work.
-the ability to sell your clothing designs to stores. there could be a stock market type thing that tells you what colors and patterns are "in" and then if you design something along those parameters you can sell them. (this could be one of the aforementioned jobs.)

these are just some of my ideas. what else could there be?

I'd like to be able to build your own house, buy/sell land, open up your own shop, more detailed clothes (i.e. dresses, pants, Oxfords, etc.). A larger, more detailed town is a must. I'd also like to interract in different ways with the villagers.

Re: Animal Crossing: City Folk Speculation Thread

Motion-based tools would be so cool. The capacities of the Wii would be wasted on the game if they didn't make the tools motion-based. The controller should shake when you get a fish, too.
I would love different town settings. In the GC one, EVERY TOWN has two levels, the train is in the same part of town, a beach, a river. Blahhh. There should be some towns with forest bordering them (maybe you could go one screen into the forest? but if there was perfect town then it wouldn't count because the trees would OBVIOUSLY be close together.) Or with two sides having a beach. Or desert-y towns. And buildings (other than your own house) with more than one floor, basements, etc.
A customizable character would be great. you know what I would want, would be to have the choice of being an animal or a human. But NO drawing the face--they would have to have you pick out the eyes, nose, mouth, etc. If you could be an animal, I would want to be either a wolf or a cat. :3
And I agree with LFS, I would want you to be able to build your own house, or at least make it look like you want it to. Nothing too fancy, but, you know, you could have a porch or something. And you should have, like, a backyard, where you could put the stuff that's technically furniture, but that it makes no sense to have in your house. Like rocks. Or a birdbath.
And I would like to be able to choose your clothes at the start. So you could have, you know, something you like. And maybe more variation of things in general, like LFS said, clothing and such.

Re: Animal Crossing: City Folk Speculation Thread

Features I'd like.... Based on my own experience with the series and Nintendo, I've written ones unlikely to happen in red, ones likely in green, and ones up in the air in yellow:

--Sending Wi-Fi messages
--More character customization (but NO Miis)
--No Friend Codes (I can dream)
--The ability to set up an online shop, whether in person or a GTS-esque thing as ZF said up there
--A town at LEAST as big as ACGC's
--Like HP said, varied town types
--Motion-controlled items, provided they work well
--The world must be flat again
--Fake holidays on par with ACGC
--More villager personality types
--Voice or text chat online
--Hub towns online where a certain number of people can fit in each (not a large number, but something like 20)
--Hub towns would be used for communication and trading, etc.
--I want soccer balls back
--Please don't make us pay to play online...
--Same polygon count, but better textures. Preserves the series feel

That's all I can remember right now. In general, I want it to be like a souped-up version of the original, since Wild World was lacking in many aspects, though they admitted that it was partly due to DS limitations.

Well, I think if you wanted to visit another's city, friend codes could come in handy out-of-game. If you see them in-game, however (such as in a MMO-type hub as you suggested), then you should have the ability to 'add' them to your friend list which would just put the code in automatically.

Though anyone should be able to connect/talk/trade with one another at the "MMO-type hub", I still want to control who can come into my village.

I swear to God, if there are Miis in this game...

I would love the ability to customize who your character is, though.

The only problem I can see with allowing players to be animals is that it could be hard at first to tell the difference between CPU and other humans (though not really that difficult). Though if they do allow you to be an animal or human, they should have the animals have some sort of distinguishment from their CPU-counterparts (a different variety of eyes perhaps? something simple but noticable).

I absolutely and 100% agree.

I think it's actually better to have them randomly selected. That way, you don't know the full scope (or even a semi-scope) of clothing at the beginning, and you can be pleasantly surprised by some amazing choices later on.

Also, it wouldn't take long after you start the game to either buy or get from a friend a piece of clothing that at the very least you wouldn't mind wearing.

Absolutely, especially if they have a larger number of villagers this time around (which they should, considering how easy it would be to travel to another village, and you wouldn't want to run into the "same" character 5 or six times a week, would you?).

I can see myself having to buy a USB keyboard if it involves a high amount of text chat, not that I'd really have a problem with that, I think it'd work out better than just voice chat (though it would be better if both were available).

Yes, actually, that would be preferable.

I hope they still have the horned hat. That thing's my favorite.

Hmm... Human players could have little cursors over their heads or something... Also, it'd probably be easy to tell who it is by how they act (NPCs would just pace around randomly outside their house, for example).

I've always wanted to find out what happens when you run out of villagers (you have all of them move in/move out). Who else starts moving in? Do old ones come back? "Sorry, I know I said stuff about being adventurous and seeing the world, but I felt like moving back in." XD

I must've missed when you said that earlier. Actually, they have that feature in the E+ version in Japan (the game was an N64 game, then it was released elsewhere on GC (and in Japan again), and Nintendo of Japan was impressed at how well ACGC came out, so they upgraded it and re-released it in Japan... It's kinda confusing.) I hope that feature makes a return as well.

Oh, and I forgot to add...
ANIMAL ISLAND.

If I remember correctly, the old ones come back but they don't remember you at all, the game treats them as if they were just another character that moved in. It's the same way if you see the "same" animal in a friend's village, I believe, though they do remember you if they move from your village to a friend's, and then you go there and talk to them.

Oh man, absolutely yes. Animal Island with the DS would make my life complete. In fact, considering you could hold more data than you could with a GameBoy Advance, they could have even more things to do.

As a side note, it'd also be a lot easier to create clothing patterns on the DS.

Oh, terrific. They could at least make them remember you. XD They probably figured no one is nuts enough to play the game that long.

Maybe even have it controlled like Wild World when you're not on it instead of just being a sprite-based useless thing with nothing to do.

...Or type. That'd be awesome online. No extra keyboard necessary.

Re: Animal Crossing: City Folk Speculation Thread

Voice chat is possible. A recent interview with High Voltage showed that they're trying really hard to get a voice-chat feature for the Conduit, and given that they're working so closely with Nintendo on the game it may just be a sign that they have something up their sleeve. But this is mere speculation.

They did it well with Mario Kart. If they don't do the same here, it'd be a serious underachievement.

I mean, they themselves did good enough for Strikers and Battalion Wars, given the limitations with those games, but then they had crap like Pokemon Battle Revolution. And while Brawl's (with Friends) was decent, it should've been better.

Mario Kart was finally the one that they did a notable job with, the only problem being Friend Codes. They set the standard with that, so they better sure as hell follow it, otherwise it'll just prove a lack of effort.

animals can sometimes move back into your town and remember you. but if they move from a friends town they have no recollection of you except what happened in your friends town. i once had a character move out of my town and then the same character moved back into my town from my sisters town. (so he didnt know me yet.) then he left and the old one came back and he kept talking about how much he missed my town. it was all very confusing.

To add to what you were disscussing about selling stuff, they should go the wild world way and have a flea market every month where you can sell your stuff.

Also there most be Tipper the Cow.
At school my friends and I had a inside joke where I was dating Tipper and Angus the bull was fighting me for her love XD

what if it could be synced to the weather channel to match your local weather. just an option. cuz it would suck if you lived somewhere where the weather never changed.

The weather channel thing is an AWESOME awesome idea! Because since the Wii has a weather channel built in, it wouldn't be much different from syncing the clock. That could work!

It was done well enough in NiGHTs, so I don't see why it couldn't work in Animal Crossing. In fact, I think it's something that should be done.

One thing I'm seeing people mention a lot is the idea of being able to play your Virtual Console games from Animal Crossing, as you could with the NES games in the GCN version. Personally, I just want an overhaul. I don't need a retooling of a N64 game a third time.

I for one think they should add more NES (or maybe other older console) games in general. I also hope that they won't make some games unobtainable unless your town is a certain name and your character has a certain name.

I want the ability to jump (without cheating) and I want to make my own character instead of one being made for me. Or if you can't do that, to be able to change your character's appearence anytime you want.
