North America Fails at Wiiware

Quote:
It’s Wednesday again, time to look at what the most popular games are in the Wii Shop. To check for yourself simply log on to your Wii Shop channel, go into the WiiWare section and then view “Popular Games”.

Here is the list for 2nd July:

1 (1) - My Pokémon Ranch
2 (2) - Dr Mario Online Rx
3 (3) - Defend your Castle
4 (10) - Gyrostarr
5 (4) - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King
6 (8) - Cocoto Fishing Master
7 (5) - TV Show King
8 (7) - Block Breaker Deluxe
9 (6) - LostWinds
10 (9) - Family Table Tennis
11 (13) - V.I.P. Casino: Blackjack
12 (11) - Pop
13 (12) - Toki Tori
14 (14) - Protöthea
15 (N) - Magnetica Twist
16 (15) - Critter Round-Up
17 (16) - Star Soldier R
Wiiware World - Most Poular Wiiware Games

...

Now, I realize it's purpose, Pokemon Ranch is a storage solution and a way for people to get Mew and Phione. But the target audience for that game should be kids under 7, and Pokemon fanatics, not enthusiasts, absolute fanatics.

How the hell is that audience large enough to do this!?

Neither is My Pokemon Ranch. It's ugly, boring, and pointless.

I don't really like Pokemon that much now, but I wouldn't mind having a Mew.

Re: North America Fails at Wiiware

Well, most of the games on WiiWare are pretty stupid. Obivously the one will almost no use wins over the ones that have no uses at all. Like Pop, where you point and click to pop bubbles. That's all you do. Seriously, WiiWare doesn't have any good games yet. Of course the Pokemon is most popular, cause it's probably the best thing on there.

EDIT: Ender, it changes based on how stupid the game is. Pokemon is probably $10. Yup, $10. The site Jeff linked to has all the prices.

Wiiware has quite a few good games. Lost winds is fantastic and probably one of the best games on the wii (including disc games). Defend your castle is also incredibly fun.. i have also heard that Toki Tori and Dr Mario RX are good. many of the games are stupid but they're not all bad.

and yes pokemon is a ludicrous 10 dollars. The price is different for every game.

Well Nintendo's fanbase buying crap as long as it has a beloved Nintendo Franchise slapped on it and making Nintendo millions in the process still stands true.

Re: North America Fails at Wiiware

If there's one thing that can soften this blow, it's seeing games like My Life as a King and Gyrostarr as high up as they are. Two solid third party efforts actually finding good sales in a Nintendo sales feature.

We got Lost Winds. We got incredibly annoyed with it. It was annoying running back and forth trying to figure out where we were supposed to go. It had lots of glitches. Many, many times against the ONLY boss they put in the thing we got a foot caught in a wall and it wouldn't let us do anything. THe only thing we really liked about that game was that three people could play and control the main character. As for Defend your Castle, I do believe that's the one my little brother was saying he had played before, free and on the internet. So that doesn't get any credit either.

Anyways, from what I've seen, WiiWare isn't too great. Of course, Lost Winds was the only one we got, and that one was kinda disappointing, but I guess we should stop expecting alot from WiiWare games...

Re: North America Fails at Wiiware

You're definitely the first one I've heard say that LostWinds is glitchy, or that the exploration was annoying. Sounds like you picked the wrong game for your tastes.

Check out other stuff like Magnetica, Block Breaker, Toki Tori, My Life as a King, Dr. Mario or Gyrostarr, those are all good. Hell, even Family Table Tennis is fun once you get by the intensely cutesy artstyle. I believe Plattchen comes out this Monday, and that sounds really cool. There's a bunch more on the way that could be great.

Every single original game Download service on all three platforms plus Steam have released quite a few gems through their respective services. WiiWare just has a lot more games (more crap,) on their release list, and when Nintendo is only releasing one to three (if we're extremely lucky,) WiiWare games each week, it takes a hell of a long time to get games of any value.

But oh man, Yo quiero Pixeljunk Eden on the PSN. <3 <3 <3
