E3 2008 - The Official Thread of Sheer Joy!

E3 2008 - The Official Thread

With E3 2008 drawing ever more closer (July 15-17) I thought it be fit to make a thread about it.

Basically, typical thread criteria: Discuss what will be showed at E3. What are you hoping to see at E3? Etc. Basically anything related to E3 such as game unveilings there and the such, throw them in here for discussion.

Official E3 Site

Some basic info posted by Mr. Wonderful on account of my laziness.

First of all, the Conference Schedule. Conferences start on July 14th, with Microsoft taking the lead this year. Conferences are usually the biggest part of the event, especially at the new, smaller, post '06 E3, where the hardware manufacturers bring out their big guns to blow away the competition.

The Schedule:
July 14, 2008 at 10:30 AM PST - Microsoft Press Conference
July 15, 2008 at 9:00 AM PST - Nintendo Press Conference
July 15, 2008 at 11:30 AM PST - Sony Press Conference

The open floor actual expo proceeds afterward with hands on time for the press. While this used to be as big a part as the conferences, most companies no longer put as much resources into the show floor. This of course could change.

Also, remember that certain companies that have recently withdrawn themselves from the ESA will not be making an appearance at the actual E3 expo, but will be holding their own events during the same time in hotels in the area, etc.

Now there are some certain titles and announcements that we are fairly guaranteed to see at the event, games that we already know about. This of course is nowhere near a complete list, and feel free to add any.

For Nintendo:
-Kid Icarus Wii, by Factor Five
-Animal Crossing Wii
-Wii Music
-A new BIG, HUGE project from Retro Studios(unconfirmed what it will be, only known that it is coming.)
-Fire Emblem DS
-Wario Land: Shake It!
-Super Mario Sluggers
-Kirby Super Star Ultra
-Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir
-Professor Layton 2 (Published by Nintendo.)
-ASH (Rumored to be Published by Nintendo.)
-Disaster: Day of Crisis
-Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World
-Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood
-Pikmin 3 (Blind Speculation)

For Sony:
-LittleBigPlanet
-Home
-Firmware 2.40
-KillZone 2
-Resistance 2
-PixelJunk Eden
-Wipeout HD
-God of War III (Rumored)
-Resident Evil 5
-Uncharted 2 (Rumored)
-White Knight Chronicles (Possibly)
-Break-apart Motion Controller (Rumored)
-BioShock
-Heavy Rain
-Gran Turismo 5 (Possibly)
-MotorStorm: Pacific Rift

For Microsoft:
-Halo Wars
-Gears of War 2
-BioShock 2
-Tales of Vesperia
-Infinite Undiscovery
-Star Ocean IV
-The Last Remnant
-Banjo Kazooie

Now, for Square-Enix, we have heard some conflicting reports. In one, Nomura commented on how only projects that haven't been released in the US yet are going to be shown at E3, saving the rest for their August event. So in other words, we would see titles like Final Fantasy IV and Dragon Quest IV. An American S-E rep has stated that we will be seeing Final Fantasy XIII, however, which directly conflicts with the above. Needless to say, here's a partial list of what we should expect to see from Square-Enix.

For Square-Enix:
-Dragon Quest IV
-Dragon Quest V (Possibly)
-Final Fantasy IV
-Final Fantasy Tactics: A2 (Showing it off.)
-The Microsoft RPGs (Most likely at the conference, including The Last Remnant, Infinite Undiscovery, Star Ocean IV.)
-Final Fantasy XIII (in video form, likely at the Sony Conference if anywhere, only possibly new. Expect more at the August Event.)
-Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon (Wii)

And I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot of things.

Anyways, what titles and announcements is everybody looking forward to? Honestly, Professor Layton 2 is the biggest thing for me. Professor Layton was one of the best games I've played in a long time.

God of War III and Half-Life 3.

Hell, I've never even played any of the Half-Life games, but it's apparently quality enough to warrant a new game. There is that other Half-Life 2 episode coming, though. Who knows, maybe I should just play the games.

Also, a Resident Evil 5 for 2008 announcement would be great.

I believe they would announce episode 3 before they even announce half-life 3, but that's just me. I hope they announce Wii Zelda obviously, maybe throw in a Wii starfox(Imake it online) then im good to go

It's been announced, just not dated. Besides, it's not uncommon for developers to be working on more then one big project at a time. I don't really have any personal stock in the series whatsoever, so it wouldn't affect me one way or the other.

Awesome. Saves me the time of making a thread.

It would be good however to get some basic information into the first post.

Electronic Entertainment Expo 2008

-Mirror's Edge
-Elefunk

For Microsoft:
-Halo Wars
-Gears of War 2
-BioShock 2

Mr. Wonderful:

Yea, I would have, but it was like 3AM and I just didn't take the time to dwell deep into what should be in the very first post. I'll quote your post and throw it up into the 1st post for a little clarification among people just seeing the thread.

whoa, retro studios has a huge project underway....nice!

after seeing that list, it makes me think that Zelda Wii will be less likely to be announced at E3,

Re: E3 2008 - The Official Thread of Sheer Joy!

Sony confirmed their new video service this morning in Japan. They also will be releasing a new "Life with Playstation" service for the PSN, which is basically a global news service where you can navigate the globe to find news stories by city. Pretty much an expansion on Nintendo's News Channel. It looks like it will go somewhat beyond what Nintendo's service is offering (Hell, just not using the Wii Channel OS alone does that,) not that anyone cares about a news service, of course. If it was integrated into Home, however, it could be pretty cool.

Re: E3 2008 - The Official Thread of Sheer Joy!

Apparently Kratos is going to be in Soul Calibur IV, seems digustingly unlikely to me but whatever.

Kirby Wii has been on a few recent-ish financial reports for Nintendo (along with Animal Crossing).

Also, S-E have all the Kingdom hearts spinoffs and stuff.

The majority of Nintendo's teams currently don't have anything announced so hopefully we'll see a few new titles from them.

And Sony better show TRICO : (.

I seriously doubt Valve will be talking about a Half Life 3 at this year's E3. They might show a trailer of Half Life 2: Episode 3, but that's about it, I would think.

I really doubt we'll see any of the Kingdom Hearts stuff, seeing as what Nomura said in my above post and that Square-Enix is holding an event the next month devoted to revealing new Kingdom Hearts footage to a closed, limited audience.

360 $50 Pricecut apparently coming weekend of 7/6. That would bring the 20GB 360 to $299.

Nice nice nice nice!! Whoa. The Core might be cheaper than the Wii. With 360 sales leveling off lately, the move isn't too surprising. This also puts pressure on Sony to drop their price as well, which shouldn't be too hard with the 65nm RSX die shrink coming this fall.

Sorry if this has been posted already, but:

Kid Icarus Wii, Doom 4, Alan Wake, and Half-Life: Episode 3

Perhaps the confirmation of Kid Icarus Wii means this is true?

I'm almost positive that I've heard of Valley of the Deluge before (there's a screen floating around) and that it's fake, which doesn't bode well for the rest of the titles. That or the screen itself could have just been fake.

Also, at Sony's meeting this morning, White Knight Chronicles was confirmed for a FY (Financial Year) 2008 release for the PS3. Slides from the conference on the games and the video download service (From Here.):

White Knight Chronicles in FY 2008?!?! This GIF pretty much sums up my reaction:

****.

It's too bad that's from 4chan. I don't think it's true though.

I mean another Zelda game? That doesn't sound likely to me. And getting a Mother 4 announcement and Kid Icarus announcement seem to godly to even be true.

If you click on my link and to the names of the titles on that page, they lead to E3.net. Does that mean they are officially announced?

Episode 3 is confirmed to be in production, but Valve has not released any information on how (if they even will) show Episode 3 at E3 '08. They might be holding off for E3 2009, who knows.
