Paper Mario!

Here's a thread for Paper Mario discussion of all sorts. If you've played neither the first nor TTYD, wow, why are you in here? So spoilers are okay for those, without tags, and if you haven't beaten these and don't want spoilers, don't read the thread that start talking about those. But it has to be spoiler tagged if it's from SPM, please.

To start off, I love SPM to pieces. I got it five days ago and I'm halfway through the game. My new favorite non-Zelda character is from it, too. Cookies to everyone who guesses right!

I love the newness (or is it oldness?) of the game. I heard it isn't supposed to measure up to the other two games, but I don't agree. It's not Paper Mario in the same way as TTYD or the original, so you can't really compare them the same way. I would definitely say that specifically as a Paper Mario game, it doesn't quite reach the same level. But as a Mario game in general, it surpasses both. The flipping makes for a unique style of gameplay. The use of the Pixls is similar to the use of party members, of course, but I think that in general they are more necessary. One of my favorite elements is the use of more than one playable character--alternating between Mario, Peach, and Bowser is fun, if on occasion irritating. All in all, the game is really very interesting and unique. Also, there is a greater depth of character than in previous Paper Mario games. The characters in the first two were more, well, uh, flat. No pun intended...honest! Except for Peach (I love that she's a playable character FULLY in this one, it adds a lot to her character), they were developed very little. Bowser is just Bowser, Mario is just Mario, and that was that.
I've heard complaints about the plot in SPM, but I can't say I agree. While it's true the majority of the game lacks as much plot as I'd like, it's interesting to hear from the baddies after every chapter--interesting enough that it's enough plot for me.

I too love the paper Mario series. My favorite is definately TTYD.

I have SPM but actually found it a bit lacking. I got it with my wii about a year ago and thought it would have more wii-ish features...

But anyway, I'm really hoping for a Real wii paper mario. Ya know, with the traditional turnbased battles.

The first Paper Mario is my second favorite game ever. The 2nd one is still great, but not even close to the first.

Super Paper Mario sucked.

Both Paper Mario and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year are fantastic and timeless games.

I was really surprised at the quality of the second Paper Mario, I never thought anything could get anywhere near the quality of the original (most games of the generation had disappointed me like MK and Wind Waker.), but it actually is very good. I loved the new depth they added to characters. Most of the partners and such in the original didn't really have that, but in Paper Mario: TTYD almost all of them have a background... and all of them, of course, have a personality.

But the original will always be the best! I don't know what it is about it, it is just the most fun RPG I have ever played. I first played it something like seven years ago, and I can still play it without any hesitation.

It has to be my favorite series I have ever played, with Super Smash Bros. a close second. I own all three games, but have only beaten the first and last. I just can't beat the Shadow Queen on TTYD. Anyone have any tips? This seems like the right thread for it.

Get the orginal N64 game. It's the best of the three by far. You can get it on Virtual console.

The Shadow Queen? All the advice I have is to use Vivian when she charges up and have lots of Ultra Shrooms.

LOTS and LOTS of Ultra Shrooms. Like, fill up that thing you get on the fiftieth level of the Pit with them. Seriously. Fill it up.

Also, airplane and rolling rule I'm sad they don't have them in SPM

As I said, I don't think it nearly measured up as a Paper Mario game, but as a general Mario game it was fantastic.

And you have to love the original, though I agree about the characters. It was basically, "help one time and they join your party." How weird is that? In TTYD they have a REASON--Goombella because she's finding facts, Koops to save his dad and then because adventure is fun, so on, so forth.

But no one has guessed at my new favorite character yet...

I have all three of the games, and i think the Original Paper Mario was the best. SPM was pretty bad. and i have Paper Mario the original on my N64!
tTYD was pretty good, but not as good as Paper Mario. I never got through the end of tTYD... Poor me =D

I'm going to guess that it's Yoshi from TTYD.

Nope, it's not Yoshi. Though I do love him. He's so cute and awesome!

I loved all the games. My list goes like this. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, Super Paper Mario, and Paper Mario. Now, this list is not saying that I dislike the origional; quite the contrary. The list goes from most best to almost as best. Like, saying OoT is better then SMG, but only because it beat it by 0.2 in the ratings (Pure example, for I don't share that view).

I don't really understand why so many people hate Super Paper Mario. Sure, it was diffrent, but isn't that what people have been asking for lately? Something that breaks the mold, goes out of the ordinary? So yeah, I thought that SPM pulled off turning Paper Mario into a platformer RPG wondefully. Then theres Paper Mario II. It was like the origional, but with more interesting characters and landscapes. Paper Mario was great, it just seemed really cliche and it borrowed a tad too much from past titles. The Thousand Year Door just improved upon the origional in many ways.

But please, DON'T BASH ME BECAUSE YOU THINK I SAID THAT THE ORIGIONAL IS BAD. IT'S GREAT, BUT I THINK THE OTHERS ARE THAT TEENSY WEENSY BIT BETTER, MKAY? IT'S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD.

Not Bobbery. It (my favorite, no it's not an it, but if I said he or she it would eliminate half the charries!) comes from SPM. I like him/her b/c s/he makes me laugh.

Not even putting the new smiley on--that would be too easy.
Also, mind that I didn't say it only had three CHARACTERS. I said it requires three KEYS. And by the way, that Bobbery requires four keys. Shift is a key.

Perhaps I should mention that it's not the whole character, just the face. Not even all of the face, just the middle-ish half.
