Most hated videogame cliches

What are some of your most hated cliches in videogames?

You mean Glithes? umm.. I cant think of any but i have one I like. In super mario 64, You can complete the game with only 16 stars. thats awsome! I dont want to go through the steps of this process cause it would take too long.

but I hate that damn one were the heros a kid in green clothes saves a princess all the time. Dear lord thats stupid.

Sometimes I find it annoying when villians come back to life without reason after being defeated several times. >_>

cliche - A trite or overused expression or idea.

Oh. im sorry. I hate that a fat plumber dressed in red has to save a princess that is way taller than the plumber. Guess what it was? *cough* Mario bros! cough*

RPGs are the genre most known for cliches. In fact, theres an entire list of them:

It's on the Cliché List, but I hate it when the protagonist of the game has amnesia. >_>; It's like, "Seriously, game developers? You're THAT lazy?"

An unreliable narrator. I mean, it was pretty interesting at first, especially the way FFVII executed it, but after that, it just became dumb. Part of the point of an unreliable narrator is to add a twist to the story when you find out that they're crazy, or that their memory is wrong, or maybe that they're just lying. You're not supposed to find out until the big reveal moment, when everything you knew about the game gets turned upside down. But after a while, it just started to become predictable. I could turn on a game and play it for a while and already figure out if the narrator was reliable or not. Stupid. They made one of the best plot devices in literary history bad. That takes talent.

In Zelda: Going through3 dungeons, then something happens, then you have to go in 4 or 6 other dungeons. Then there is a boss.

Usually they have a backstory.

Also, protagonist with spiky hair.

When bosses always pause so you can hit them before they attack again

"Hello, X male lead character hero, I am your best y male supporting character friend!"

"That's nice."

"Please bend over while I attempt to kill you."

Everything is a straight line. There is nothing that does not have a purpose, and there is nothing extra. There will be locations or areas or enemy placement for no reason whatsoever except to make the game easier/more difficult. It certainly doesn't fit in with reality.

Save the princess, save the world.

But seriously, I hate it when the final boss's of games are a bait and switch, and you have to fight ANOTHER boss after the supposed "Ultimate Evil".

It's like drinking a glass of Coke oly to have someone tell you it was a Diet Coke. An evil Diet Coke.

Having to fend off an endless horde of enemies while waiting for a door to open or an elevator to arrive. Yes, Half-Life 2, I am talking to you.

Why does Square have all of their whiny protagonists look like they've had their hair dipped in brightly colored lead paint and are training to be manikins for a generic trendy chain clothing store?

1.Spiky haired charecters
2.Love stories
3.Saving princesses
4.Villians that you encounter a million times in a game, yet they don't try to kill you until the last encounter at the end

These things vex me.

# Insomnia Rule
A "free stay at the inn" is never really free. Expect to be woken up in the middle of the night for a mandatory plot event.

Henchman Quota (Nana, Saki, and Mio Rule)
One of your antagonists will have three lovably incompetent stooges whom you fight over and over again. Although they're trusted with their boss's most important plans and equipment, they will screw up repeatedly, argue incessantly among themselves, blab secret information, and generally only come out victorious when their job was to be a diversion or a delaying tactic. A high point of the game will come when the True Villain reveals himself and you're able to convince the stooges you're all on the same side. They won't help you out any more successfully than they helped the antagonist, but at least you won't have to fight them any more.
