nintendo better come to its senses soon

look at this quote from a recent ign interview:

Tom Prata: Consumers have the option of either deleting the game and downloading it again for no additional Wii Points, or transferring the game from Wii to external SD memory card.
they have got to be kidding. there is no way in hell nintendo can just sit back and tell themselves that this is an acceptable solution. i only have 200 blocks left on my wii and a friend of mine only has 87. at this point they are only hurting themselves. im not going to download any more virtual console or wiiware games simply because i cant. i might be able to download a few VC games but certainly not wiiware games if want to save room for real games (as in the kind on a disc.) and i know im not the only one with this issue (granted my problem is slightly smaller than others.)

what peeves me the most about this is that in an earlier interview (that unfortunately i cannot find at the moment. some business press conference thing) nintendo stated that it was working on a solution to the problem! is this a simple miscommunication? i hope so.

it just bothers me that nintendo could be so ignorant.

Satoru Iwata talks about this.

I think we could get something about this when E3 comes to town.

But it doesn't matter. You can delete any virtual console game that you've downloaded, and then just redownload it for free whenever you wanted to play it again.

but thats a huge hassle. not only that but its ridiculous. there is absolutely no reason we should have to do that. and lets say that i want to play a few rounds of bomberman because i have an extra ten minutes in the morning. but unfortunately i deleted it to make room for something else. i cant play bomberman because i have to delete another game and then re-download bomberman. there is no reason we should have to do this. and it makes me not want to play my wii as much.

I agree that this situation is stupid. We're given ~300MB of space to use for game saves and downloads, and surprise surprise when that's not enough. I too, have only a little under 200 blocks left on my Wii, which will decrease again today when I install Okami.

We know the Wii's OS is absolutely gimped, and Nintendo has made little to no effort to fix its problems with system updates. It all just comes down to that Nintendo is

Re: nintendo better come to its senses soon

It would help if Nintendo would allow software to run from a SD Card. If they wanted to they could also put DRM into the downloads on your SD Card so it wouldn't work on another system. Only having an internal 512MB is a joke and Nintendo should have been aware of the Consoles future with us downloading more VC games and other stuff too.
It also bothers me that the Console doesn't even support SDHC cards. I tried putting a 4GB card into my Wii and it wouldn't even read it. It seems to me that the Wii can only support 2560MB of total memory, 2GB SD Card and internal 512MB. Let's hope that they do solve these memory issues soon. Make use of the extra memory on the SD Cards please.

I could see a Wii with more space coming down the tube in the future.

I'm glad I don't have internet access on the wii then. Like that I don't have to use space on my wii. But if they come out with a new style of wii. I'm gonna be pissed off by that.

Yes. We shouldn't use our system for what it's designed for!

OK. Maybe I didnt phrase that right.
If you beat the game. Fine. Trade it in, delete the save file.
Or else pester Nintendo to make an external drive.

Re: nintendo better come to its senses soon

You don't need an external hard drive. Just save them up on SD cards, basically use them like memory cards for any other system. Just backing up entire games, rather than save files.

If you could play games off SD cards that'd be cool, but you can't. You have to transfer the game to the Wii's internal memory before you can use it.

Indeed. If SD cards could be used to play games, then there'd be no problem.

You can get SD cards that are, I believe, 32 gigs in size. I don't think you could fill one of those even by downloading every VC/Wii-ware game out right now.

But, alas, you can only use SD cards as a backup, a way to keep data that you don't plan on using any time soon.

I've not been able to use any SDHC cards on my system, only up to 2GB.

...Ah, right, I'd forgotten that the Wii didn't allow those. ><

Well then, SD cards aren't even the answer.

Yeah, Nintendo needs to release an external HDD or SSD or something.
