Mario 64 DS

Who else here enjoyed this game sooo much that they obtained all the stars and rabbits? I just wanted to know if many people would try to actually complete the game 100% (I did)

The game was so much better on the N64.

Seriously.

Re: Mario 64 DS

I played it to death when I first got it. Got around 120 stars, but not the full amount. Collecting 100 coins and some of the 8 red coin missions gets a bit tedious after a while.

What is the bonus for 100% completion? Just seeing Yoshi on the roof would be a bit pointless in this one.

Overall, I preferred the '64 original, but there were a few interesting extras here and there. Shame the control system wasn't too friendly.

Re: Mario 64 DS

I didn't because I didn't enjoy it as much as I would've liked.
They messed up what was arguably the best part about Super Mario 64, the controls, and interchangeable characters felt like an unwanted element. Yoshi and Wario felt very out of place, and the changes they brought to the powerup system was just an added barrier. It would have been much better if all the characters could get all the powerups, just like Mario in the original.

You won't be wrecking your controller if you're playing the VC version either.

Re: Mario 64 DS

I never played the N64 version, but I'm sure enjoying the DS one! I can't wait to get Luigi. His invisibility power sounds really neat. I'm a bit stuck right now, though. I can't seem to figure out the lost baby penguin star. Know which one I'm talking about?

cocoaaero: VC means Virtual Console. It's this thing on the Wii where you can download old games such as ALttP and play them on the Wii using the classic controller.

Hmm? How were the controls bad? As far as I can tell, they were an upgraded version of the old one...

But yes, I liked it very much. I had the origional back in the day, but I never got further then beating it. I completely perfected SM64DS though.

If it's the same as the original the baby penguin is on the very top of the mountain next to the chimney. You just grab it and slide down to the mother penguin.

I didn't exacly complete in 100%. I think i quite somewhere around 130 stars. Although I loved the cool extras, I still think the original was superior.

Re: Mario 64 DS

I loved that game.. But lost it.
I never got all the stars, and just used the wall jump to get onto the roof of the castle.
It was a great game. Even the mini games were fun.

Re: Mario 64 DS

I played this one nearly 100% (I don't think I have ALL the minigames).

It was pretty cool playing it through again and seeing all the extras and how things were changed around so much.

I really hated the controlls. I disliked I had to hold down a button so they could walk a decent speed. GRR

I never really enjoyed Mario 64. No point in getting the DS port.
