Basically, a "horrified" family wants Wii Fit banned because it called their "big boned" daughter fat.

Personally, I think this is hilarious and honestly if they're getting that upset about it, she probably does need to loose some weight.

Nintendo/Wii Fit didn't do anything wrong... how can being honest be the wrong thing?

I'm a bit oversensitive/overweight/&c. too, (AND I'M A GUY! LOL) but it's how the game works. How would a game infer such a thing? It's inatimate! Incapable of judging you! I suppose it would have been best just to call her a 'lazy child' or something to that effect.
But seriously, there are just some things you never say to a woman... Nintendo should have prevented it. But what the family's asking for is likely an exageration to make a quick buck in legal damages. Same motavation as finger in chile. Or, maybe, the anti-GTA lawyer's really the fun-hater everyone say's he is. Conspiracy!

Wii Fit uses BMI (Body Mass Index) in order to measure whether people are overweight or underweight. While not a perfect system, it works fairly well for adults. The girl is 11 years old. She is not an adult, and therefore the game cannot properly use the BMI on her, it can only give an estimation. It's bound to be wrong some time or another.

I saw this on Kotaku a few weeks ago. Absolutely hilarious. If you think your kid might be sensitive about their weight don't let them play a game like that. Also, it does say that it will not necessarily be accurate for children.

But yeah, 92 pounds for a 10 year old is probably a little on the heavy side. If you go by the body mass index (which Wii Fit uses) anyway.

I tried Wii Fit for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Now, I'm not exactly in shape and I've definitely put weight on over the past couple of years, but I was told I'm of ideal fitness and weight for my age group. I was rather surprised.

Maybe fatty just needs some proper exercise. BEEFCAKE!

Perhaps I’ll also write to the Daily Mail though I suspect that my story will be axed in favour of a breaking news item where a father breaks down as he details how two (unnamed) insects had the audacity to have a quick shag in front of his daughter (21, slim, blond and not unattractive) occasioning grave offence and a long overdue chat about the ‘birds and the bees’.

I agree although they should have rephrased what it said on that warning logo to make it seem more non offensive. Then again everyone always wants to get a piece of something popular with Law suits and what not.

This happened with the Wii-motes, too... People were being incredibly stupid and hurting/killing themselves with their plastic game controllers, and now, after many unwarranted/greedy lawsuits and media negativity, Nintendo's released the ridiculous Wii-mote jacket, and beats people over the head to not kill themselves while playing WarioWare.

...This can only get worse. People are jerks.

People get offended way to easy. These people are setting bad examples for their children. How are htey going to deal with life? If they think *that* is bad, wait until they hear what real people have to say about them. When you make a big deal about this, the children are going to be like this. They wont beable to handle what some stranger off the street is going to call them.
