And yes, Kain is awesome. Especially with his double-jump ability. That'd be Excalibur. He's always after that one, and he usually ends up with Excalipoor instead. Poor guy.

Re: Official Final Fantasy Thread
No, he's after Excalibur in FFV. In FFI you get Excalibur from the dwarves if you bring them adamantite. Gilgamesh is in the soul of chaos dungeon looking for a sword that's better than Excalibur that's on that floor. I think it's Ragnarok, but it may also be Deathbringer. It's one of those two.

Re: Official Final Fantasy Thread
He thinks he's found Excalibur. Then he tries to hit you with it and finds that it's actually Excalipoor. You may remember that you don't get to keep that sword.

Re: Official Final Fantasy Thread
I'm talking about FFI, not FFV. You DEFINITELY keep Excalibur in FFI. It remains the best weapon in the game until you find the Masamune in the Temple of Chaos.
However, in the remake there are the soul of Chaos dungeons that hold many better weapons. These include Deathbringer, Ragnarok, and Ultima Weapon. There's also the Barbarian's Sword, which you get for beating the final form of Chronodia in the Labyrinth of Time (The PSP exclusive dungeon), and is the strongest weapon in the game. Gilgamesh is in the soul of chaos looking for Ragnarok. You beat him, open the chest he was looking for, and you get it.

Re: Official Final Fantasy Thread
I'm not sure about the PSP remake, but the GBA remake of FFI has him thinking he's found Excalibur, and it turns out to be Excalipoor...again. He's not looking for Ragnarok in the GBA version.

Let me look it up.... OK. You get Ragnarok for defeating Shinryu. Deathbringer (the other sword I thought you might win) turns out to be found in a chest that is found soon after the battle with Gilgamesh. That was what I was thinking of. There is no reward for beating Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh does not mention Excalibur when he talks, only that he's looking for a legendary sword. Instead, he gets a piece of crap that washed up on the mermaid island that you fight him on. (Pretty much the same thing anyway).

Re: Official Final Fantasy Thread
IGN recently had another one of their top 25's, this time of the Final Fantasy characters variety.
A few tragedies that have already claimed the hot-blooded rage of FF fans: -Setzer ranked above Celes. -FFVIII characters get on for just being able to smile (yay for anti-angst) -Vivi ranked only #2 -No Gilgamesh On the bright side, I found some groovin character art for Rydia. |
