Lagging Problem (360)

Alright, so as many of you know, I bought Oblivion a few weeks back. I would like to call to your attention that it's not a good game. It's not even a great game. It is and AWESOME game. One of my all-time favorites. However, I have run into some trouble and I was wondering if anybody could help me with this little pickle I'm in.

The minute I bought this game I knew it was going to be laggy, even though it's the 360 version. That's just how Elder Scrolls is. I mean, a little lag is normal for any game, but this is just ****ing ridiculous.

The main problem with lagging is in the player menu, container menus, dialog menus and transitions between places. When I bought the game it was completely smooth. No lag problems whatsoever. I have just recently started to see some lagging, and it is REALLY bad. Seriously, the splash screens aren't supposed to take full minutes to load, and you shouldn't have to wait thirty seconds just to check where your next quest is. It's really annoying.

I just went upstairs and played for awhile. I got me an elven sword, sold some things and then talked to someone for a quest. It took me forty-five freaking minutes. This is REALLY starting to piss me off. What's a brother got to do to salvage some troll fat?

I've tried to clean the disc but that didn't work. Has anybody else faced this problem? How do you deal with it? Is this supposed to be normal?

Clear cache.

Go to the system blade and then select memory. Press Y on the HD symbol and then press X,X,Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X,X. Once you do this a message will appear saying "Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices?". Click yes.

...does that do any harm to any of my existing memory?

"Clear cache" sounds pretty painful.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention this. Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed don't lag. Could be a disc problem. Would the same solution still fix the problem?

No, it won't harm anything. Though, you may have to redownload the auto-updates (not sure, but even if you do, shouldn't take too long), and the first time you load up the game will be a *****. I've done it for the exact same reason, too, when Oblivion kept freezing on me.

It works? Man, thanks a load. So there are no side effects, I'm guessing?

Considering that was the only game I was playing in that time period, probably.

I think it's because Oblivion is such a system-intensive game, and as a result, uses a helluva lot of your cache to store temporary files.
