World Destruction DS- A New RPG With An All Star (Xenogears included) Staff!

This was announced a week or so back, but what do you know? Mr. Wonderful is LTTP. Gasp, I know.

Synopsis Via RPGFan:
Quote:
Sega Announces Original DS RPG
04.23.08 - 7:41 AM

Sega today announced an original DS RPG entitled World Destruction. The project has reunited three key members of the Xenogears development team, as Sega secured the services of scenario writer Masato Kato, composer Yasunori Mitsuda, and character designer Kunihiko Tanaka. Drag-on Dragoon (Drakengard) character designer Kimihiko Fujisaka, Shin Nagasawa of Etrian Odyssey fame, and Grandia designer Masatoshi Azumi are also involved in the project. The entire development team consists of close to 50 members.

The developers are promising visuals that are pushing the hardware to its limits. World Destruction's protagonist is a young man named Kirie. He possesses powers capable of annihilating the entire world. He doesn't know why he has those powers, though. Kirie is not a very self-assertive person, but he still says what he thinks. One day, he is forced to join the so-called world destruction committee. As its name suggests, this organization is plotting to destroy the world. The game's female lead is called Morte. She has become a member of the organization because of her own tragic past. The young lady is very bold, but not very skilled when it comes to love affairs. Other characters include Naja (who is half-man), half-wolf, Morte's childhood friend Agan, and Lia. Lia may look like 15 or 16, but in fact she was born more than 300 years ago.

System-wise, World Destruction will offer turn-based battles incorporating fighting game elements. During battle, players will accumulate Battle Points (BP). BPs can be used to trigger techniques, special techniques and combination attacks. A well timed press of a button will result in enemies taking massive damage.

Will the end of Kirie's journey indeed mark the apocalypse or something else? We will find out the answer when World Destruction hits Japanese retail store shelves sometime later this year.

The game itself looks absolutely beautiful, and while it's missing the two main creators of the Xeno team, between the killer members from/of Grandia, Mitsuda, Xenogear's writer, and the Etrian Odyssey designer, this game is a sure fire masterpiece. This is definitely a title to keep your eyes on.

I want that game. I've had a shortage of good RPG's lately, and that looks like it would fill my need nicely. Argh, if only I knew more kanji...

The game looks very stellar and the plot is pretty damn original compared to a lot of RPG's. Looks like a good game to me.

Kato and Mitsuda? Sold.

It's ridiculous how many quality RPGs the DS has got : o.

Also, a small pirate bear in your party? badass.

I saw this a while ago, and for some reason it just caught my eye instantly. The in-game sprites and the CG scenes are gorgeous, it's easily one of the most beautiful DS games ever.

A game that focuses on destroying the world rather than saving it? Whoa-hoa, bring on the anarchy and morally ambiguous characterizations, I'm already looking forward to this one.

It's nice to see a bunch of Hi-Quality ORIGINAL jRPGs on the horizon. Even if they're all coming to the DS. Seriously, where's the console love? The only notable jRPGs coming to the land of consoles are Symphonia 2 (Wii), Vesperia (360), Final Fantasy XIII (PS3) and Star Ocean IV (PS3).

Gee, what a shame, only four huge RPG's coming to consoles. There's even one on each system, and two for the PS3.

I'm aware of most of these, I was just making fun of Crimson. As for the DS RPG's coming out, now we've got this one, Valkyrie Profile, and a couple Final Fantasies. Anything else I should know about?

Interesting! The plot sounds kind of dumb so far, but it looks gorgeous, and the team working on it is awesome. I'll definitely be watching out for this.

You didn't have to put it that way

I'm just sayin, that even with the numerous titles listed by Wonderful, this generation of consoles seems to be going through an ominous drought of jRPGs, especially compared to what we got the last 2 generations.

I know exactly what you mean. There hasn't been a good amount of decent jRPG's since the end of the PS1/N64 era IMO. I think the Wii and 360 are going to suffer horribly in the RPG department overall.

Sounds great, I'm not a hundred percent sold on the visuals though. Some of the sprites look great while on the other hand some parts of it look kind of weak. A lot of the screens from the second last posted images look great, the CG also looks amazing. Yet again, I walk into the dilemma of investing in a DS or a PSP.

*bump*

World Destruction -?????????????-

New movie on the japanese site! Doesn't really show much of anything but whatever.

Also, there are a bunch of new screens and scans from magazines and whatnot and I'm too lazy to find them all so you can all just go to IGN instead.

And a anime and manga already being planned is sillllyyyy.

Wow. That video looks pretty good. Mitsuda's music is where it's at, however, even at the low quality of the video.

Is there any word on a US release date? I know it's not out in Japan yet, but it's nice to know these things.

No US release date yet, but with all the support Sega's putting behind this franchise, I'm sure it'll come over.

Anyhoo, here's some stuff on the anime adaption; it'll start syndication in Japan on July 7th. When's the game coming out again? I heard it'll be out by Winter.

The Pirate Bear lives, and his name is Toppi Topuran, oh yes.

The World Destruction anime trailer is the second video.

From Anime News Network:

Quote:
The website of the Famitsu videogame news resource has posted two promotional movies for Sega's World Destruction role-playing videogame and Production I.G's spinoff anime series. (The anime's promotional movie is the second video on Famitsu website's page.) The Nintendo DS game and television anime revolve around a boy named Kirie Irunisu who secretly possesses the power to destroy the world. While one party seeks to save the world, another party aims to eradicate the world and start anew, and it forces Kirie to join — despite being unaware of his power. The anime will premiere in Japan on July 7.

The video highlights the involvement of Kirie's voice actor Mamoru Miyano (Death Note, Gundam 00) and the main heroine Morute Āshera's voice actress Maaya Sakamoto (Escaflowne, Tsubasa). Rounding out the cast are Yu Kobayashi (Negima!, School Rumble) as the party member Ri A, Hiroyuki Yoshino (Blood+, Gundam 00) as Agan Mādoru, and Daisuke Ono (Air, Shina Dark) as Naja Gurefu. Tohru Furuya (Gundam's Amuro, Sailor Moon's Tuxedo Mask) has finally been identified as the voice of the mascot character Toppi Topuran.

The movie also lists the director Shunsuke Tada (The Prince of Tennis: The National Tournament, Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations) and the script supervisor Masahiro Yokotani (Reideen). The game's original character designs by Kunihiko Tanaka (Xenosaga Episode I, Key the Metal Idol, Ruin Explorers manga) will be adapted for the anime by character designer Keita Matsumoto (Blood+, XXXHOLiC key animation). Yoshihiro Ike (Blood: The Last Vampire, Karas, Flag) will compose the music. Last Exile character designer and Knights manga creator Minoru Murao will be drawing the manga adaptation.
Hmmm, there is a fine line that must be treaded upon: to watch and get spoiled of many of the game's riches, or pretend the anime doesn't exist. If Haruhi Season 2 isn't on by then, I'll prolly check it out.

Is it just me, or is the DS quickly becoming an RPG King?

That's good news for me! ^_^

^The amount of quality RPG's coming to the DS is insane.

-World Destruction
-Avalon Code
-Sigma Harmonix
-Valkyrie Profile: The Accursed One
-Endless Frontier: Super Robot Wars OG Saga

And there's also Dragon Quest remakes of IV, V, & VI. Not to mention DQIX.
Go ahead and crown it, for it is king.
