Devil May Cry Series
I was going to save this and make it more thorough of a starting thread, but impatience is an annoying setback, unfortunately.
Anyway, it was really hard to find many games like Devil May Cry in the beginning. There weren't many hack-n-slash games back then that were really that great and worth the time, but when DMC came out for the PS2, it was what many gamers who loved the action genre were waiting for. With an interesting story and character - a bad-ass devil hunter named Dante, who we learn halfway through the game is half demon and son of Sparda, a dark and gothic theme that fit the game exceptionally well, and unbelievable action, it was one of the greatest games during that time. But then, there came Devil may Cry 2. So many gamers were hyped for this game, but it only brought disappointment to us all. It was less refined than the first, the design was bad, and the difficulty was too low. Also, it led away from the main story a bit, which is always bad. Plus, Dante's personality was totally different from his bad-ass, trash-talking self from the first game. It kinda made everyone think (including myself, although I haven't played it in its entirety) that the sequel ruined it all, and it did. But that changed when Devil may Cry 3: Dante's Awakening was released. Gamers were finally happy again, with the superb graphics, an unbelievable soundtrack, and the action that was tweaked to perfection. There were so many different styles gamers could choose to use in combat, with more to gain later on as you progress. Dante also was tweaked in regards to character, gaining back his bad-assness from the first (well, it was a prequel). The game's cut-scenes and action is something Hollywood could learn from when they want to make a great action flick sometime in the future (yeah, sure..). It was the best hack-n-slash game anyone could ask. But what many wondered was "Could it get any better from here?" Well, it depends, really... Devil May Cry 4 was not better than DMC3 in any way at all, but it is in the same league. Thi time, instead of playing as the cool Dante, you play as a young Nero, who possesses a devil arm and is also a devil hunter. With his sword, Red Queen, and his dual-barrel revolver, Blue Rose, he takes on hordes of demons, and chases down Dante who killed the High Priest of Fortuna. This game was meant to be an introduction to the series for anyone new to Devil may Cry, still attaining the appeal from the fans out there. Personally, I feel this game did just that, and a bit more. The combos weren't the greatest, but it still was awesome and it required more timing and good handling with the controller. What I was hoping for in this game was different styles like in DMC3, but at least you get it in the second half of the game (with an extra one nearing the end). The soundtrack was as good, if not better, as the third. So what will Capcom hold in store for us for the next one? Will they even make another Devil May Cry game? I hope so, and when they do, it better be more kick ass than all the DMC games combined. So, discuss.

No GoW for me, its too much of a button masher. I'm hoping the PSP eventually gets a DMC game of its own.

^ I think the difficulty is in the controls. The controls are really smooth, but when it comes to charging Nero's sword and continuing your chain of attacks, that's where it becomes more challenging.
The Devil Bringer was a nice addition, as well. Using the Devil bringer just made it a whole lot enjoyable (and I love using enemies as a shield).

I'm at the end of the third one and it is awesome it is leaps and bounds better than DMC2 and its up there with the first game. But it is quite a challenge.

As it stands, the results for me are:
1. Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening 2. Devil May Cry 4 3. Devil May Cry 4. Devil may Cry 2 Does anyone know why No. 3 is the only one with a subtitle? That's the one thing I don't get, as all the other games are simply "Devil May Cry __".

I guess they just felt like it. Probably no real reason, unless it was something like informing people a bit what the game was about or something.

Oh well, DMC4 was way too easy. There might be hope for it though. The PC version is coming out and it's supposed to have a harder difficulty mode:Legendary Dark Knight mode. It will put more enemies on screen and make them tougher. Turbo mode is returning too. Hopefully capcom will release this as DLC for the consoles, as I'm not buying another DMC for PC, number 3 taught me my lesson on that.

Well, if you want a challenge on DMC4, why not try Hell and Hell mode? I finished DMD on DMC4 pretty easy, but HAH mode is pretty damn though. I'm currently on level 12 with Dante.

They should take out the gold free orbs they give you. One hit should mean one hit. And beating HaH gives you nothing but an accomplishment, not really worth it IMO.

Now that's what you'd call challenging. Heck, that's why I have like 99,999 red orbs. I don't buy any items.

And I hope you forgot a 9 because 99,999 isn't that much. After I bought my purple and blue orbs I have about 400,000 red orbs on me.

And yeah, you're right, I forgot another 9. I realized that when I started up the game yesterday and re-counted. XP
