Kid Icarus is back?

MAXCONSOLE - Nintendo Wii - IGN say Kid Icarus will be a Nintendo 'suprise' at E3

I wasn't really all that fond of the original game. There were some decent platforming elements to it but it was still lacking in things. If they had continued the series and made evolutions to the gameplay I might be more excited but for now to me it's an interesting curiosity.

Well of course they're probably going to re-invent the game. It's not like it's going to be anything like the SNES version when we have the Wii decades later.

I bet it's going to be at least somewhat hyped and will probably be a good game.

Interesting. This was a good game for me. Everyone should play kid icarus at least once in their life.

It may be a little late, but it would be a great re-invention of a classic game, maybe not to everyones taste but to mine at least. xP

Heh, obviously they'll be re-inventing it but right now they could literally go in any direction they wanted with it. With something like Zelda we could see how the first game progressed into each other, even with something like Metroid Prime you could see how it derived from the 2D games. With Kid Icarus, we haven't seen anything.

The only thing that it associates with is a kid with wings show has a bow. The game doesn't have a mood that it is known for, the game doesn't have a signature element to it, the only thing it does have is a tune. To me, the game is basically a brand new title with an recognized character.

However it turns out, it's gonna be cool. I'd like to see a difficulty setting so that when you finish it on hard you get to unlock the original game. I love little gimmicks like that. xP

I would actually be thrilled to hear that Nintendo is working on this mostly because one of the biggest rumors going around is that Factor 5 are the guys behind this, and I'd rather see their game end up being something different.

By now I think it's inevitable that we eventually get a Kid Icarus Wii, the motion controls are a perfect suit for the type of gameplay that would be incorporated. Pit's also gotten a lot of fame from his appearance in Brawl, so this is the perfect time to start coming out with this.

I'm all for tap dancing on graves in the name of profit, but only if the person in said grave won't flail around like an epileptic raccoon at a rave.
Ladies and gentlemen, there is a problem; cause if you put your ear to the ground, you can hear the late Gunpei Yokoi, creator of Kid Icarus, flailing around like an epileptic raccoon, as opposed to just rolling over.

From Kombo:
Quote:
The last nugget of information we have to share with you is in regards to the game's plot. At the time of the pitch document's writing, Factor 5 had imagined a plot involving a grown-up, adult Kid Icarus in which Pit is "cursed for thousands of years for a crime and becomes a 'fallen angel'." The pitch document adds that "a tattoo on Pit's arm bears the inscription of Pit's crime."
This is all rumor until proven otherwise. But with all the talk circulating and E3 just around the corner - this, along with every other rumor out there ATM, has legs.
The stuff posted above is just artwork from Factor 5's original pitch, and it's said that the artwork has been "greatly improved" since then. You guys should see the masked one.

Anyhoo, like its creator, the series has been dead for over a decade. But, if Factor 5 can only deliver enjoyable experiences from behind a franchise flag (Icarus/Star Wars), well, more power to them. Sadly, their experience with Lair will make them think twice before trying something entirely new again.

Now that I got the melancholy out of the way, you can find the full story here.

I hope not. I'm not that fond of Pit from SSBB. Hes voice is boyish and extremely annoying and I don't see the point of Nintendo trying to make a game with him when they can just make a Zelda game.

Yeah, IGN has been downright confirming this game for practically half a year, which I was surprised actually ended up happening. Bring on a new IP, though. Nintendo's system really needs it, and I'm not sure that Factor 5 would be the exact type to embrace the blue ocean audience, either.

Well, a return of Kid Icarus really doesn't surprise me at all. I mean, Marth and Roy were basically the reasons for Fire Emblem games being released outside of Japan. And if I recall correctly, Roy's inclusion in SSBM was largely a marketing ploy to increase his popularity for his soon-to-follow Fire Emblem: Fūin no Tsurugi. So I'm guessing that's kinda what is being done here with Kid Icarus? Many claim not to like him, but his popularity is a given; he's (almost) every SSBB newbie's dream come true. He is loved, used, and abused by many. He got famous within 24 hours of Brawl's release in America (and probably even before that) So the way I see it, it stands to decent reasoning that they'd try to revive his inclusion in the Nintendo gaming franchise.

Actually, this would be great on Nintendo's part to build up some action/adventure games on their consoles other than Zelda. The series can only do so much for the genre, and there's a lot that Kid Icarus could cover in place of it. That, and the motion controls arguably benefit 3D action/adventures even better than FPSs, so a game like this would be a perfect fit for the Wii.

This would be pretty frickin' close. Most people don't even know what Kid Icarus is, and this revival would most definitely be completely different from what the original was.

Unfortunately, it could very well be another Metroid Prime 3. The audience just isn't there. (And Nintendo would need to actually pimp the hell out of the game.)

I actually believe that that leaked art is very likely fake. Looking through it I notice that there is very little consistency in terms of style; it looks like it was done by a bunch of different artist who made little attempt to stick together in style, or by one artist who didn't care about consistency.

Sales and recognition wasn't exactly what I was getting at, but alright.

I hope you know that Prime 3 has sold well over 1 million copies, 1.14 mil of which were by the end of 2007. This is for a game that comes from almost niche trilogy. It's a highly respected set of games, but the gameplay found with them isn't tremendously popular along the lines of some other killer aps.

Have you even played the original game?
At least this will be around if Zelda games cease. You won't have to buy the game when/if it comes out anyway....
