Same with arguing over tiers for Brawl. Which is pretty much a fanservice game, and not a serious fighter like Street Fighter III, and so, no proper tier list has come out yet since no major tournament with players who are at the top of their game with their characters have been able to showcase what characters would be where in the tier.

Wait for EVO 2008 in August. Because tiers are usually assessed from these kind of pro tournaments.

Tricks? Do you mean strategies or move lists? If its the latter, better start cramming moves into your brain. It's not like Smash Bros is hard to learn though. Just a question of learning the playing mechanics rather than individual characters IIRC.

Side note: EVO 2008 won't count for anything. They are playing with medium items on banned stages. Most of the serious smash community won't attend. I know dozens of players who planned on attending but changed their minds when they saw the rules. Look for tournaments like FC and 0C.
