Kefka > everything.
My memory of the game has atrophied; does the party split up before or after the Warring Triad are released on the Floating Continent? |

^yes, you have to get the airship first.
If you walk the trench and take a ship from the town at the top of the trench. Once you get the airship everything is open ended. I suggest you visit every place before you go to fight Kafka. You will learn a lot about the characters past and when the game ends you will be crying. YOu will truly not understand how bad ass kafka is until you get to the end of the game. |

I can't believe you don't think Kefka is awesome.
I'd say it's between Sephiroth and Kefka for the title of "Most Spectacularly Awesome-Tastic Why the Heck Are You Still Reading This You Know I am Just Trying to Make Him Sound so Awesome Geez Do You Have A Life Come on Please Stop Reading This There is Absolutely No Point Are You Obsessed With This Post or Something Evil Villain."

Kefka is awesome. 'nuff said.
To get Terra in World of Ruin, fight the fat green guy, leave the village, then return and talk to Terra again. After defeating the green guy a second time, Terra joins the party. And VI is, hands down, the best Final Fantasy game. Yes, even better than your beloved VII.

I've never played FFVII. FFVI appealed to me because the graphics were actually good to look at... FFVII loses its initial appeal for me because the graphics are so incredibly blocky. But initial appeal doesn't tell us anything... Anyway, thanks for the help everyone. I was sort of angry when I found out that there isn't much plot after you get to WoR, except finding the characters and going to fight Kefka. Though I was loving leveling my characters up before I went to the big rock in the sky and the battle system too.

Do not be discourage about the lack of plot. For all the back stories you will learn will make up for it.
also on the floating island, did you wait for shadow, because if you did not, he's dead. |

I just got the airship back. And then the guide said a good place to train is at the dinosaurs north of the veldt, so i went there and got koed in like a few hits. Now I have to beat the last boss again... Anyway, is it possible to win against Kefka with 4 characters, or maybe 5 or 6 at level 34?

Not even close to possible. There's a good reason why you get twelve people for Kefka's Tower. It's because you need twelve people. With six characters, you won't even get near him.

I've seen some Youtube links where people beat Kefka with five or so people, so I think you might be able to do it.

I'm aware that it doesn't instantly kill you; it's just that he has so many attacks that deal thousands of damage to multiple party members, and odds are good that he pulls one of those immediately after Fallen One.

Fallen One isn't necessarily his opening attack. You were just really unlucky. There've been times where he's never used it against me, and times where he's spammed it to hell.

Yay! It didn't take me nearly as long as I thought to get back to the Apocalypse. Wiped the floor with the Ultima Weapon :3
And now I have Sabin, and I'm following Edgar (under an assumed identity that I've forgotten) to the ruins of Castle Figaro. I'm in a cave or sommat. |
