Final Fantasy XII

I searched and found no matches to the phrase: "Final Fantasy 12" in this forum.

Well, I bought this game last week and I'd say so far it's awesome! I'm up to the part where I need to defeat these mimic things that are sucking the energy from conduits in this passage. I forgot what the area was called, but it's after being in the dungeons of Rabanastre. Can anyone tell me how close I am (Not proximity-wise but future-wise) to a shop that sells -ara spells (Exception, cura.)?

Re: Final Fantasy XII

I recently got the game too ^_^. I got mine a few days you got yours I would guess. Currently I'm in a place called Tomb of Raithwall, unfortunately though, the only "ara" spells I've seen so far would be my Cura. I think I would find more if I looked for them but currently I've been playing the game loosely because I'm not going for the full experience, instead I just want to finish it once.

I'm really loving the game though, the new battle system (especially Gambits), music, graphics, it's all great. At the moment though, there are two things that pop out in my head.

1)Does Vaan have any other purpose than tagging along with Balthier and Fran...man, those two are awesome, they make up my primary party. Basch seems like a noobcake though, I don't think he'll be in my party the second play through either, though once my guest leaves, I think I'll need some muscle to compensate his loss....

2)So far I haven't really seen a large variety of environments, I was hoping to have been through at least a forest by now but it's only been the barren worlds and the dungeons. At first it was great seeing the big cities and the wasteland all around but now I really would like to see some forests, swamps, large bodies of water, snowy areas and so on.

Edit:

3)Why do Basch and Ashe (to a lesser degree) seem like such noobcakes? Is it because they don't have the personality of the sky pirates? I mean my current guest seems to have the same personality but he feels like less of a noobcake.

Re: Final Fantasy XII

I absolutely love the game, though it's not for everybody. I was slightly disappointed at first, but it's truly grown on me, and is now one of my favourite games in the series.

Jehuty:

Vaan doesn't really get any more interesting. Him and Penelo are probably the weakest aspects of the game because it's true that they don't have much character. Vaan's story kind of develops when you get to the Land of the Garif, but he goes back to tagging along and being a rather pointless character after that.

As for the environments, you do get some more variety shortly after the part you're at. You'll see some grasslands, mountains and a couple forests shortly.

Re: Final Fantasy XII

Jehuty, what you're noticing in XII is that the character development is practically non-existent. It's one of the weakest points of the game, and because the political plot is somewhat undeveloped as well, the story really suffers.

Re: Final Fantasy XII

this is one of the few final fantasies I have yet to play. I have heard it has an anoying combat system though becuase the monsters you fight level up as you do, meaning you can never get an edge on them. Does this seriously hinder the gameplay at all?

Re: Final Fantasy XII

Actually, I don't think the monsters level up as you do. But it was easier to beat Thextera (Giant wolf) in the hunt with two people instead of one. I continue to wonder, whenever Thextera summoned another wolf to it's side, it automatically did some kind of machine gun attack that immediately killed my character with a huge loss of HP. What was that attack all about?

Yah, I'm not sure why, but in this game things will usually be going fairly smoothly and out of nowhere I'll see this not so intimidating or slightly intimidating enemy, I'll go to fight it and within seconds I'll be running for my dear life. I'm not sure if I've come across the situation you're describing but you're going to get a lot of "wtf" moments with the enemies.

Slime, Mr.Wonderful, thanks for the info ^_^. It kind of sucks that Vaan and Penelo don't get played out as much as they should, but oh well. The story at the moment doesn't seem to be that bad, I mean it's not earth shattering but it seems like it's decent. It doesn't really take much to impress me either, even the usual "young boy from small village goes out to defeat an unknown evil" well keep me interested.

No problem! Personally, I was kind of disappointed by the story at first, but after playing it a couple times, I really grew to love it. The world has a lot of depth to it, under the surface. If you're interested in the backstory, make sure to read the bestiary entries. And if you ever try to "complete" the game, unlock all the extra pages. There's a lot of interesting history in there.

But if you want to see more of Vaan and Penelo, check out Revenant Wings for DS. It's a lot more lighthearted, but they're the main characters, and they get a lot of development in it. It really surprised me. The fact that it was directed by the same guy who did FFX-2 and seemed to be based on FFTA's art style made me a little skeptical, but it ended up being a really solid game.

Well, I'm at Bhujerba and I'm trying to defeat Nidhogg. Is there any easy way to defeat him at lv. 13 instead of lv.18? Would I need to use quickenings?

Re: Final Fantasy XII

FFXII was REALLY hard for me to get into, but it is definitely one of my favorite games. The character development is pretty bad, and I found it funny how jehuty called Ashe and Basch noobcakes, when in my opinion they seemed to be the only interesting characters.

Re: Final Fantasy XII

I absolutely adore this game. (Although I could have sworn there WAS a topic at one point on FFXII in this forum.)

There's little I can say on it and I have very little critisism, but that's my personal oppinion. I think I'm just blinded from the many flaws it may have by the intriguing storyline and the characters (despite what I've seen a few people say about their lacking of development) which, to me, are amazing. I'm especially intrigued by Balthier and Fran who are still to this day the most awesome duo I have ever seen and been granted the gift of having them in my party as playable characters.

The Gambit system: amazing, yet it still holds flaws which are to me, very minor but nonetheless doesn't lower my onlook.

You know, I'm not actually that sure why FFXII is one of my favourite games while so many people dislike it. I guess it just appeals to me in a wierd way.

Re: Final Fantasy XII

I bought the game around Christmas time, for like twenty bucks, so it was a steal in my opinion. :]

I love it so far. I'm at the Temple of Mariam. Or something like that. That part is a pain in the butt to get passed. Yeesh. I think I need to do some leveling up or something. From walkthroughs and stuff like that, I would say that I'm about three quarters done. I'm a bit slack on the storyline so far, so I think I need to read up on it, to get a better feel. I'm kind of lost, which is can be blamed on my lack of playing.

However, I love the characters. Especially Fran. Mmhmm. The character set up is just awesome, and the battle system, though new, is very fun and easy to catch on. It's defiantly one of my favourite titles.

Puck played this game, but never finished it. He got seriously bored with all the Duengon Crawling, and the story really was not all it was cracked up to be.

100% completion. 210 hours.

I loved the game. The story and characters weren't really much, but the gameplay is amazing. After beating Yiazmat I was like "Yay, I won! Oh wait....there was a story wasn't there? I guess I should finish that too." To say the least, the game has amazing, time consuming side quests that are more interesting than the story, but are so fun that the game is still awesome.

Yes yes, but how do I defeat Nidhogg? The annoying blue basilisk that is in the Lhusu Mines. Do I primarily need to use quickenings? Thanks for the advice!

Quickenings help, but you shouldn't need them. Just make sure your weapons and armor are the best you can afford, and make sure you have healing gambits set up on every character. If you control one character and make sure that another has their healing gambits as the highest priorities, you should be able to beat it. Watch the thing's health bar, and when it's almost dead, use a Quickening.
