Re: lets discuss Oblivion
I just recently started playing again, now that I have a PC that can run it.
The core game is rather too...Diablo-ish for my taste. It's fun, but it's still running dungeons and fighting enemies on little pretext. I've also got to ask why everyone in the game has jaundice and horribly disfiguring face-blemishes. The plot is also pretty meh, which is a shame, considering the attention that they gave to most of the side-quests. Shivering Isles, now, is amazing. It has memorable NPCs, it's very creative, while the gameplay is largely the same it just has more...spice, to it. The plot, while still not outstanding, at least has a twist in it; something I thought I'd never see in a Bethesda game. And, really, Sheogorath is probably the best NPC in any game ever. So, anyways, I tend to prefer "spellsword" or "battlemage"-esque characters; ones who weild both swords and magic, though normally in light armour (I just summon bound stuff if I really need defense. Or take the enemies out at range with a fireball or eight.)

Re: lets discuss Oblivion
I love it a whole lot. So much to do, so many quests.
I usually do everything for one character (who's usually chaotic evil). With the PC version, I can mess around with the consoles. I've spawned numerous clones of myself and Adoring Fan just to have a full on brawl in the Arena or elsewhere. Once I spawned 10 cloens of myself and we had a big battle in the Anvil Dock. It's a tad cliched now, but I just love to blast the Adoring Fan off of Dive Rock.

Re: lets discuss Oblivion
Although far inferior to its predecessor (Morrowind), Oblivion is a good, fun game that I logged around 70 hours to.
I generally play a Breton under the Mage, but train in weapons because magicka is so accessible and broken (enchantment wise) that I can complete every guild and quest without the required skills. Every character I've created always turns out wearing Dark Brotherhood gear brandishing GoldBrand. It's a combo I've come to know and rely on. The only thing I haven't done in Oblivion is play a pure archer. But then again, I've beaten the game so many times I don't really see the point. ~ Adhamh. Re: lets discuss Oblivion
My characters tend to be evil Imperial men. Sure, they start out doing good, but after being whacked on the head too many times with maces and spells, they go bad.
Even now, my present character is now on his way to the Dark Brotherhood Sancturary to recieve his outfit and first assignment.

Re: lets discuss Oblivion
I want the game SO bad. I haven't picked a copy up yet.
The people look a little less ridiculous than Morrowind's, but ridiculous none the less. They look like they all have down syndrome. Seriously. Great game though. I want it so much.

Re: lets discuss Oblivion
It took forever for me to finally get my guy the way I wanted. I feel sorry for any player out there that chose to do a female and actually cared with how she looked.
I have to say Oblivion is the kind of RPG I was looking for, for a long time. I thought the combat could have been a little more entrigueing with lock-on compatibility but I guess it would have taken away from the skill and realistic feel of it. Did any of play in 3rd-Person?

Re: lets discuss Oblivion
Definitely one of my favorite games. The quests and stories in Oblivion are quite interesting. I love both the Dark Brotherhood and Shivering Isles plots. Favorite characters? Probably Khajiit, especially a vampire - gets annoying with the face glitch on it though. Favorite weapon? Definitely Duskfang/Dawnfang. Usually I'd go for assassin/ stealth based characters, and with all the available mods ( official and non-official ) just exploring Cyrodiil is fun enough.

Haha, and I did actually care- first time I played Oblivion I spent around an hour making the face of my character- making a Khajiit chick with a face that doesn't stick out like a donkey's is quite worthwhile, in the long run ;3

I'm generally always a Dunmer, focusing on magic, light armor, and swords. Magic being mostly destruction, conjuration and alchemy. As for guilds and such, I generally prefer the mages guild, but due to a glitch in the cheydinhal recommendation, I've been unable to advance... In the thieves guild, I've completed the storyline. In the fighters guild, I'm too lazy to deal with this one quest. In the Dark Brotherhood, I'm almost done with the storyline. Just a quest or two to go. I've done parts of the main quest, but I haven't gone too far into it. Oh, and, to experiment, I decided to be a vampire... eh, not as much fun as I thought it would be. More of a pain than fun. Especially when I'm exploring a cave and I rest, and while in the cave it tells me I've become susceptible to the sun. And, I'm just thinking, "Not again." Anyway, good game. (Morrowind is slightly better, in my opinion.)

Re: lets discuss Oblivion
I poured about 120 hours into this game and enjoyed it immensely. I built a female Khajiit Spellsword that specializes in Restoration, Block and Blade. I'll go up to an enemy, stab/slash the everloving crap out of them, and if I take too much damage I'll just back off a bit and heal it all away before going in for another round.
I especially loved the enchantment system, it was so easy to break. I already had a ridiculous strength stat, but my character is greedy and likes to take everything not nailed down. So I got myself a full set of Daedric Armor and enchanted it all with Spell Absorption and Feather. Now I have a Spell Absorption rating of over 150 and can carry over 800 pounds worth of items. ![]() |

Re: lets discuss Oblivion
Ooo, ooo, I DID. well, at most of the time.
My character is a lvl 4 scout Imperial. He's an Evoker of the mage's guild. He uses a staff of shock, a lesser staff of telekenisis, and he makes spells The Arcane University is SOOOO AWSOME. Still, i wish it was an online game. Then you could meet everyone, and just run up to another player, and kill em'!

Re: lets discuss Oblivion
I was blown away by Oblivion the first time I played it.(I'd never played Morrowind much before that). So many cities, openness to the game. I was addicted quickly and spent 110 hours to beat the main story and most guilds. I had a great time doing the main quest. Its not too original but it kept me interested. It was great near the end. I'm glad I chose to buy it.
There were so many side quests to do, I'm not even close to finishing all of them. I needed to do many to get more experience and just for fun. Because as soon as the clannifers appeared in oblivion world, I had too hard of a time getting things done. I played as a Breton and Nord, and high-elf. I use my custom enchanted fire bow or ice sword, use magic to get enemies too close to me. I started using sneak later in the game. Sometimes I'd kill every person in a city because I was board. (I didn't save). I went on wanted until about 15 imperial soldiers tore me to pieces after my little rampage in the Imperial City. I haven't gotten Knights of the Nine or The Shivering Isles. I really want to. I'm thinking to switching to PC because of the mods. Quote:
