PS3 Hard Drive

The last few times I've started up my PS3, I get a message that says the hard drive needs to be rebuilt. It starts to do so, then I get another message that says the hard drive needs to be reformatted. My question is, what is going to happen if it reformats itself? Is that okay? I can handle losing all my data (I only have three games saved on it).

Strangely enough, I don't get the reformatting message everytime I turn it on. And I've just turned it off and back on whenever I have gotten the message and it works fine. Well, worked. Now it's not even reading my game. >> Help, please?

Re: PS3 Hard Drive

I couldn't tell you about the random occurrences you're having with the message, but reformatting basically means restoring your HDD to it's launch, empty state. Your data however will not be lost, as there is a backup option for all your saves, etc. Downloads can of course just be redownloaded.

Re: PS3 Hard Drive

Maybe the last update I got was for that problem, or similar problems. Did you update your PS3 to 2.17 firmware?

I haven't updated my PS3 since I got it in October.

There's a backup option? Hm, the message keeps telling me that all my data will be lost and cannot be restored. But thanks for telling me what the reformatting means. ^^
