Re: RARE going to microsoft a good idea?

I'm neutral on it. Thats like saying is it bad for one store to exclusivly seel a product while another may not. The game quality didn't go down Rare still makes games of the same quality, it's just that they never add to things or fix problems. Also Rare had allot of the teams that made the old games split off and open their own company. Like the team that made Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.

Re: RARE going to microsoft a good idea?

I was gutted when Nintendo's most quality developers decided to jump ship, but as touched on in the Banjo-Kazooie 3 thread, that move even caused friction within the Rare company itself, resulting in a split. The team that developed Goldeneye and Perfect Dark formed the development company known as Free Radical, who are still working on the FPS genre, with Timesplitters and the upcoming Haze being the most known.

So, for the simple reason that Rare is not the full development team it used to be, I don't see any reason to have them back creating games for Nintendo. It all depends on how games like Banjo-Kazooie 3 turn out.

Re: RARE going to microsoft a good idea?

While Rareware was still working for Nintendo, it was owned by two factions, the Rareware brothers (not their actual name - they simply created Rareware) and Nintendo.

The Rareware brothers owned 51% of Rareware. Nintendo owned 49%. When the Rareware brothers no longer wanted to be with the company, they sold their 51% to the highest bidder: Microsoft. With Microsoft owning a majority share, there was no purpose for Nintendo to own the other 49%, so they sold to Microsoft.

It was a good idea, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a loss for Nintendo - it definitely was.

I don't really care about Rare going to Microsoft, I guess its a good thing, or we wouldn't have Viva Pinata. (Rares best game. **** Goldeneye/Perfect Dark)

I think they're a little difficult to compare. FPS are pretty different to whatever genre Viva Pinata is, no? You really didn't like Goldeneye or Perfect Dark? =o

Re: RARE going to microsoft a good idea?

I really DID like Goldeneye before it became a mediocre piece of trash. It just fails in comparison to newer FPS games, its just awful to play, clunky controls, nasty graphics... Just everything about that game is ****. >_>_>_>

I'd rather play Perfect Dark Zero, and we all know how much that game sucks.

That's like saying you liked Super Mario Bros. or Ocarina of Time, but now think they suck crapcakes because they're outdated.

Re: RARE going to microsoft a good idea?

Why did Nintendo sell Rare? A really dumb idea but as Sailboat said, it's to late for anyone to complain now. I don't really mind that they went to Microsoft, as long as they keep making good games.

It can't "become" anything. The game is the same as it was when it first came out. There are obviously going to be improvements made over time as technology gets better and they develop more fps games.

What I meant was that it just can't stack up to newer FPS games.

Both of those games still hold up today though. =\ Goldeneye does not.

Re: RARE going to microsoft a good idea?

It's hard to say. Usually I wouldn't care but Rare has been basically pretty much going downhill ever since Nintendo sold them to Microsoft with a few okay games coming out, so by looking at that it could be considered a bad decision. However, if Rare was staying with Nintendo, the same could probably happen too sooo.

I could care less. Don't see what's wrong with it, or why it's great.

Diddy Kong racing and Perfect Dark... oh, how I'd love to see some proper sequels for those games. Another DK Country game would also be really neat.

Re: RARE going to microsoft a good idea?

I think they're making a real sequel to Perfect Dark, I'm fairly excited for it. Hopefully they catch onto the Halo party system, if they can do that then they'll be fine.

Re: RARE going to microsoft a good idea?

NO I don't think it was a smooth move but like posters have said before, it's too late now.

Nintendo needs a punch in the face for this.... and a kick in teh balls.

I doubt anyone will love any of the recent Donkey Kong Games as much as they did the old Donkey Kong + DK64 series.

HELLO NINTENDO!!!! YOU SUCK AT MAKING DONKEY KONG GAMES!!!

(although DK:JB as I have heard may not be a bad game, I have yet to try it)

At least, Rare still makes hand held games for Nintendo.

But now Nintendo has to watch people buy BK 3 for their XBOX 360 and play Goldeneye 64 on the Xbox live arcade instead of Virtual Console.

And Nintendo fans get the shaft by playing [sarcasm]*cough*awesome*cough* [/sarcasm] games such as Donkey Kong King of Swing!!
