Alternate Name for DS

I think the Nintendo DS should've been called Gameboy Touch, Nintendo DS sounds like a cellphone name.

Its codename was Nitro, wasn't it? Or am I wrong? But I like Nintendo DS. I was getting tired of every Nintendo handheld being called Gameboy. But it made me chuckle when everyone called it a "Gameboy DS" at my school when it first came out.

Gameboy touch sounds cool, even though I still call it a gameboy regardless.

They had to end the gameboy name at one point though...

For one, it's not a Gameboy.

Two, Gameboy Touch? That would get more laughs than Nintendo Wii. :XD

I think the name is fine.

Heard they called it Wii because when people play they say weeee!!!!

I want my Wii to interact with Touch.

All innuendos aside, I'm fine with DS (dual-screen).

Actually, there already is an alternate name for the DS.

The alternate name for DS, Dual Screen, is Developer's System, also DS.

Both live up to their name.

Nitro is the name of the DS to TV capture card.

Here's the real deal: Nintendo was trying to come up with a new name for the Revolution. One of the PR guys was all like "Why do we even need a new name?". Another PR guy responded "I'll tell you why: iWhy". Iwata was all like "Symmetricity is key, it's going to be called the iWi". Unfortunately, when he e-mailed the proposal to everybody, he misspelled it "Wii". Miyamoto got completely drunk at the next Nintendo party and started yelling "Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!". People took this as a sign of approval for 'Wii', and the name stuck.

Actually, I think the name Gameboy touch would be perfect! just imagine it! the connection between the Wii and the Gameboy Touch could be called "Wii want to Touch you".

Actually it's not. I don't believe the DS and GBA have any sort of real connection. Didn't the micro come out shortly after the DS?

Yeah, but that was Nintendo simply trying to milk the Gameboy Advance cow dry. Who knows, they just may do the same with the DS (make one where there isn't a GBA slot to make it smaller and the screens bigger).

Gameboy was popular because it was a portable system
NES was popular because it was a home system

Now that a new portable system has been around for quite some time, there really hasn't been any word on a new evolution to the Gameboy. Nintendo stuck around with the Gameboy Advance just in case the DS became a total failure (so they could simply fall back on the GBA...you know, sorta like the Virtual Boy).

The DS has a touch pad, microphone, wifi compatable, and 3D graphic.
The Wii has motion control, a (small) speaker, wifi compatable, and 3D graphics.

What could you possibly expect a Gameboy to do, that a DS can't do already? The only thing I can think of is for it to have even better graphics than the DS (one that could be equivallent to the Gamecube). Face it, the DS is this generation's Gameboy...it just has a new name.

yeah, everyone I know still calls it a gameboy. Which is really degrading, which is probably why they dropped the name. No teenager or fully grown adult wants a product with the word "boy" in it. And neither do girls for the most part. makes sense that they called it the DS instead of the gameboy revolution or something of a similar nature.

When the DS was first unveiled at E3 we were actually told that it was gonna come out with a different name. It DIDN'T!
