True, I EV-train (although I'm not absolutely obsessed with it) and I've been able to take down a few legendaries with my Garchomp, etc. Although I love using ubers, I'll happily use non-ubers as well.

On a side note, I finished training 5 or 6 ubers for a team. Now I have a standard team, and an uber team!

So what is all this EV-Training you're talking about? I feel like an old-timer who uses the imperial system in Europe >>;;

EV training is a process that lets your pokemon reach their maximum potential.

I've wiped out an entire team of ubers with my Metagross and Starmie, and the guy who gave them to me has kicked my ass many a day.

Well...

When your Pokémon (Let's say Relicanth) wins a battle, it is secretly given points in one or two stats. When it levels up, these stats are increased by a larger amount than last time.

For example, you might want Relicanth to have high HP and Speed. You would train it on things such as Bidoof (HP), Starly (Speed), and maybe even Arceus (HP). When you level it up, its HP and Speed will increase by a larger amount!

Alright, let's see if I can do this:

Every Pokemon has magical hidden numbers. You can't see them, but everyone has a counter for them. They're called EV's, or Effort Values. If handled correctly, they'll allow a Pokemon to reach their maximum potential. There's a separate EV counter for every stat; so HP EV's are calculated separately from Attack EV's, etc.

Now, let's say that, with 0 EV's, a Pokemon's HP at level 100 is 350. Okay? For every 4 EV's you get, their stat at level 100 will increase by one. So that Pokemon with 4 HP EV's will now have an HP of 351. So on and so forth. Unfortunately, you cannot just raise stats to 999; EV's have a limit of 255 EV's per stat, and 510 EV's overall. So you can have 102 EV's in 5 stats, or 255 in 2 stats, as long as the total does not exceed 510 (you won't be penalized for it, because you can't actually surpass 510). As a sidenote, as you can imagine, the best EV-spread for maxing out two stats in 252 EV's in two stats, leaving you with 6 in another. Why? 255 is not divisible by 4, meaning you have 3 wasted EV's in that stat that could've gone to something else.

Now, how do you acquire these little numbers? By fighting Pokemon. Every Pokemon defeated gives EV's. For a full list of what Pokemon drop what EV's, check this page on Psypoke. Remember, you'll have to keep track of the EV's gained yourself. Also note that EV's can be lost (in case you accidentally got an EV you didn't want) by feeding the Pokemon a berry that says "Raises happiness but lowers base [whatever]". This will decrease the EV count by 10.

So, hope that made sense.

There's also IV training, but that's even more annoying than EV training, so you'll have to look that up.

I've only EV trained, never IV trained.

EV training has a bit of a learning curve, but with practice and preparation it becomes relatively quick and easy. Breeding for good IVs is infinitely more frustrating and time-consuming in comparison, though thankfully IVs are probably the least essential part of forming a good team.

It's possible to beat others without EV training, as there are several things more important than it, but it's still an uphill struggle. Especially due to the fact that if someone takes the effort to EV train, they probably (but not always) have a better grasp of the basics, too.

Well, you can't actually IV train, per se. Only breed for good IV's.

Are there any glitches in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl...If there are what are they?

Is there any way that i can increase the chances of getting a female pokemon when breeding?

I don't think so - not without using a cheating device. Although there wsa a big glitch in the japanese version that let you reach Shaymin and Darkrai without cheating.

No. But you can increase the chances of a nature, etc. being passed down by giving the female pokemon an Everstone.

Here's something interesting: Giratina has another form. And it's been officially confirmed.
Proof:



No-one knows where and how it will appear, though. Most people are suggesting that it will appear in the next pokemon movie, and that Giratina will change forms in a 3rd installment of Diamond and Pearl (like Deoxys did in 3rd gen when traded between games).

I personally believe the second idea - that it will change forms by trading between 4th gen games. Also, many people have pointed out that this could make the long-awaited Gold and Silver remakes likely to appear because of this.

Any thoughts on this news?

I saw that on Serebii.net. That's the form it takes when traversing dimensions.

Interesting - I didn't know that. I'm a big Giratina fan, and I love this new form. Hopefully, it'll appear in future games.

Also, Shaymin will appear in the next movie. I won't watch it, but still.
