The playable list is OK, but I'm disappointed first of all, from the complete lack of playable Final Fantasy XIII. While we knew this wasn't going to happen, I mean...What the hell is up with this game? One Final Fantasy per generation confirmed or what? On the other hand, it's cool that Final Fantasy IV and Dragon Quest IV are playable. Where the heck is Dragon Quest IX though? I guess this is alright just being a movie at this point for now.

Let's talk Star Ocean though. The only projects outside of DQIV, DQIX, and the main Final Fantasy XIII that interests me. The remakes don't even get videos. ...One's even a port... Star Ocean IV being a no show is excusable, as it's a huge undertaking that was only announced in July. But it's strange they aren't even giving the remakes some videos. I have a feeling there will be some surprises on the show floor. Maybe Star Ocean will be one of them.

Back to Final Fantasy XIII though, Square-Enix said at Sony's E3 killing party in July that the closed theater trailer they showed then would be the trailer shown to the public at TGS. (Because secrecy makes it better.) Thing is, that trailer didn't sound much more than an expanded version of the debut trailer. What's up with this game? I really hope we get an actual story trailer or one that depicts real gameplay...Because I'm getting sick of running on fumes here for this game.

Oh, and Crystal Bearers for the Wii is surprisingly absent. It would be nice to see that too. But whatev on that one. It looks good but hasn't hyped me to death. Prove me wrong, Square-Enix.

Is Dissidia similar to Brawl?

:|

I have some issues with bringing back characters to fight when the original games may have had resolution that would preclude the main characters fighting again. (Did that make sense?)

The Crystal Bearers looked pretty.

Re: Square-Enix Lineup Detailed for TGS

Meh. I'm not that intrigued. Half the playable games are for mobile phones. I expected better from Square Enix.

I hate to say it, but everything pretty much seems like rubbish to me. I've never been a big fan of the Dragon Quest series (played Dragon Quest III, that was enough for me; decided to never play a Dragon Quest game again), so I can't say I'm too excited with the releases of the new installments in the series. I'm only looking forward to Final Fantasy IV, Crisis Core FFVII, and possibly Final Fantasy Tactics A2. Besides that, I have to say that I'm fairly disappointed with SE's presentation at this year's TGS.

Speaking of TGS, I need to find out some more info regarding other developers at what they'll be revealing this year. . . Thanks for reminding me Mr. Wonderful.

Yup. It's pretty much just another of those series cross over fighting games from Japan.

While we know A2 is going to be better than the original, I still expect it to be a certain level of **** outside of certain elements. It is under my could be awesome watch list though. Woot for War of the Lions for the PSP though, now that it's slightly awkward that Matsuno is working on the Wii.

And the old school Dragon Quests suck. They just do. They revolve completely around leveling up. Don't pass your judgement on the series based around the one of the games from the NES. Go play and be amazed by Dragon Quest VIII.

And Final Fantasy XIII doesn't interest you? Yeah, I guarantee Versus XIII is going to play like a DoC/Kingdom Hearts mashup pile of crap, (Nomura isn't that great... Mr. Wonderful declares this a fact.), XIII looks to be like a return to form for the series with a dash of excellent.

And Star Ocean IV is the sequel to one of the best RPGs for the PS2, and Tri-Ace is that one part of Square-Enix that is still batting 1000 per 1000.

For Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers for the Wii, yeah, I have to say that this seems to finally be a project from Final Fantasy IX's team (which was my favorite in the series) that actually is taking itself seriously. Square-Enix is also the company out of any that could actually produce some titles on the Wii that go beyond being cartoony in order to be pretty, as we saw them do in all their PS2 games. I've said this before, but PS2 quality + Wii's lack of grainies = a stunningly beautiful and unparalleled level of graphics on the Wii.

Has much been said about how they'll use the Wii-mote functionality as part of the game? And what the game play will be like? I try to follow these things, but I feel like I'm never getting any real details about Crystal Bearers or FFXIII from magazines.

Re: Square-Enix Lineup Detailed for TGS

Dragon Quest IX's lack of a playable demo probably stems from it being delayed in Japan. It sounds like they're working on some serious enhancements.

As for the list...meh. Tactics A2 and Dragon Quest IV have my attention, but not much else. I'm still waiting for more info on Crystal Bearers.

Did not know that Last Remnant was multiplatform, though, so I did learn something.

Actually I played the GBC remake of Dragon Warrior III. You know, I don't usually judge a whole series/franchise on just one game. However, Dragon Quest/Warrior somehow was an exception to me.

I prejudged and came to the conclusion that since essentially most franchises have their newer games based on their predecessors (or classics), that Dragon Quest would also be applied to this as well.

I have heard some good things about Dragon Quest VIII though; I take your word for it. However, for some reason, I never got around playing it.

You said it so yourself. Supposedly the new trailer was perceived as just a expanded version of the original trailer. I can't say that I'm too excited about that. Also, I wouldn't want to set my expectations too high just so that I might be disappointed.

In short: No expectations, no disappointments.

I didn't see Start Ocean on the list. However, like you stated, that doesn't rule out that it might not appear as a surprise presentation.

I'm a bit skeptical about Dissidia's concept. Then again, it might be intriguing to see how SE pulls it off. We'll see.

I'm not that interested in Crystal Bearers just yet. I still would like to see some more info about the game; so I can say that I am disappointed with SE not showing their (what looks to be) biggest Wii game yet.

Sorry if my post seems "lacking" or that I missed anything. I had a longer reply, yet for some reason everything was erased.

OMG! KUJA!

okay, on to seriousness. What I think would be a very cool wii function, would be to scroll through menus, you actually point and click A on the attack you want to use instead of scrolling with the D-pad and pressing A. Also, gestures for powerful attacks, like trance attacks or powerful magic like flare or bahumet ZERO summons. They could really make use of the wiimote. I doubt they will do this though. It will probably just be the same game with updated graphics (or possibly same graphics) that uses a classic/gamecube controller.

Re: Square-Enix Lineup Detailed for TGS

The trailer for Last Remnant appears to give a hint at the game play. This game looks interesting (but the whole, "my sister's been kidnapped, I have to save the world" thing has been done before).

Re: Square-Enix Lineup Detailed for TGS

Out of that entire list...

I'm looking forward to Final Fantasy A2 the most.

I'm a huge fan of tactics games, my most favorite being Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. I've racked up 500+ hours on that game (no joke). It was simply amazing. Now I'm very excited about the sequel. It looks great! It says no multiplayer, but that's vague. There could be wireless multiplayer but no Wi-Fi. They haven't been specific enough. I do suspect wireless multiplayer since FFTA had multiplayer. We shall see.

Anyways, the release date for Japan is in October. I hope it reaches the states during quarter four as well.

Is tactics advance really that great? I own final fantasy tactics for the PSone, and In fact I'm in the process of beating it right now, but it doesnt seem that great. I like the fact thats its final fantasy in strategy game battling. but nothing else really stands out. I also like how detailed all the sprites and backgrounds look (well for a psone anyway) but the story just seems so, meh. well I'm less than 10 hours in though, so that could change.

I will probably get the new one just because it has "final fantasy" in the title. lol

You bet it is. But maybe tactics games aren't your thing. Nothing against you if it isn't. I liked the PS1 FFT, but I loved Tactics Advance for GBA so much more. It was a lot more lively and interesting, I thought. FFT being remade makes me want to purchase a PSP. And for those who have known me here at ZU for a long while would know that that's really saying something.

Funny you should say that. Final Fantasy Tactics' plot is considered by a wide range of critics to be one of the better plots in RPGs.
