New Kingdom Hearts Prequels Coming to Consoles, Handhelds

The Story.

Square Enix has been awful silent about the Kingdom Hearts franchise, but that doesn't mean it's gone and forgotten. To the contrary, in the latest issue of EGM -- hitting shelves September 4 -- Quartermann is abuzz about a series of prequels currently in-the-works for a number of consoles and handhelds. Think along the same lines as what's happened with Final Fantasy VII -- let's just hope the games are better this time.

Quartermann also contends another popular rumor still has life in it: Okami on Wii. Capcom is already working on an upgraded port of the overlooked Zelda-style adventure, complete with Wiimote support.

Quartermann is almost always reliable. Most recently, he was right about the PS2 getting a motion sensing controller, to name one. Plus we know that, from earlier this year (E3?) that a new Kingdom Hearts is going to show up at TGS, so it seems that this is a really good possibility. It would also make some sense considering the trailer at the end of KHII.

Oh, and Okami excites me much more, IMO. KH was great, but KHII proved that they didn't have anywhere to go from there, so you could count me out for any hype for a KHIII.

Okami on Wii? Now that gets me interested. I never got the chance to place it on PS2, but I'll buy it on Wii for sure since it perfectly suits the console.

I agree. I mean, I've never found the series that interesting. I just can't take cartoon Disney characters seriously. I'd probably just steer clear of any related news regarding KHIII (or whatever title they may or may not be coming up with).

Okami on the other hand. . . I can't wait. I mean, this is one of those rare instances where a port is definitely needed/mandatory. It was already such a great game on the PS2. I'd love to relive the experience once more on the Wii. Okami and the Wii were meant to be. I have faith that Capcom will pull it off rather well.

Whoops. I was planning on putting "Supposedly Coming" in the title. Oh well.

Yeah, considering Okami was a game that some claimed to play better than Twilight Princess (not that we need to start that debate), getting such a game on the Wii, and such a dang beautiful game at that, would be greatly appreciated.

I played KH for an hour last night. I have mixed feelings about the game. At this point I'm not sure why they would need a prequel.

I agree that parts of Kingdom Hearts can be a tad tedious, but looking past the supposedly endless amount of button-bashing that forms the core of KH's combat system you find an immensely powerful story, and Kairi. I also agree that the appearance of cartoon Disney characters meshing with those of Square-Enix's creation, but the Disney worlds themselves definitely enrich and add flavour to the game. Although a greater mix of orginal worlds would also be welcome.

To say simply that "Kingdom Hearts always sucked" is just closed-minded and unsupported. If you at all cared or had an opinion of the series I would see reasons for your hatred of the gtame instead of some bold, bland statement.

The thought of prequels coming to both consoles and handhelds excites me. They will hopefully do something like Umbrella Chronicles will do and take you through the whole Saga while filling in all the blanks about Organization XIII, the Heartless, Nobodies and Ansem. I don't know about the rest of you, buit I think too many questions have been left unanswered and I can't wait for Kingdom Hearts 3 to arrive.

The only good thing about Kingdom Hearts is the Disney characters, honestly. Other than that, for an RPG, Kingdom Hearts has a terrible and cheesy story along with equally terrible and cheesy characters (pretty much all of the original made ones and the FF ones). Don't forget the action gets very old and uninteresting over time as you constantly press X rapidly (which allows you to easily beat the game) without much depth.

As for Okami on the Wii, I'm lovin' that. Very good stuff.
