Favorite era of gaming

simple, vote for your favorite era of gaming. My personnal favorite is the polygonal era. I started to play videogames during this ear, with the n64 and the playstation. Some great games were made then, mario 64, Oot, final fantasy 7-9, etc.

Re: Favorite era of gaming

digital was magical for me, because that is when I got my first games console to call my own (a gamecube)

and because great games were released in that era

Maybe not as funny as pro wrestling, but a lot more realistic.

It would have been nice if it were possible to vote for more than one.

16-bit. Gameplay and innovation were the only things you needed in gaming. You didn't need graphics or a 102 member orchestra to do your music for your games. Sadly, it was also the birth of video games fanboys/girls.

Re: Favorite era of gaming

I want to vote for two, as they are both equal to me, the 16-bit era, and the polygonal era. I just voted for 16-bit though, as it was where I mainly got into games, although I did play 8-bit before hand.

Polygonal has to be included for me, because it was just such a huge successful leap. Super Mario World - Super Mario 64. Brilliant.

I fully agree with Darknut King here, my favourite is the N64-era because of several fabulous games, excluding OoT, including Majora's Mask.
The SNES-era was pretty much sweet as well, considering it contained the awesome graphics and gameplay of today's GB games.

Re: Favorite era of gaming

Also, the 16-bit consoles introduced or added to franchises we still know and love today, Mario, Sonic, Zelda, Metroid, etc, setting far more advanced foundations than previous systems could. The polygonal era had the harder task of almost reinventing these games, which the digital and next-gen eras are only adding to.

I voted for 16bit because I got my first console (being a snes) and I adored super mario kart and goof troop and all the double dragon games

I agree. I mean, metroid and super metroid arn't even comparable! same with alttp and LoZ, the 16bit vesions blew the 8-bit versions out of the water! Now the polygonal brought new possibilities to all these titles. 3D support, even though the graphics are a bit blocky. I would have loved to see a first person metroid game on the n64, that would have just made my day! looking back on it, I'm actually really surprised they didnt make a metroid game for the 64. wonder why that is? I feel bad for the saturn though, It had so much potential but just fell short. IT HAS 3 PROCCESORZ!!!!psh.

Re: Favorite era of gaming

I went with polygonal era: N64. That's when 3D gaming came along, and several games that I really loved. Also, save files were common, whereas they were rare for NES games. I don't know about SNES.

Another thing to note is that people weren't expecting these extra things: Huge orchestras for games, outstanding graphics, and options on the console besides playing games.

I mean come on! What kind of people are disappointed if they can't play music on their videogame console? That's why radios, walkmans, and CD players were invented. Lastly, everyone wants the next generation games to have online play. Gotta have the online play. If it doesn't have the online play, major dissapointment and resentment ensues.

N64 era for me: OoT, MM, Ogre Battle 64, Aidyn Chronicles, Harvest Moon 64, SSB, Pokemon Stadium 1&2, ect.

I completely forgot about pokemon stadium! I still play that game! the mini-games and the quick battle option are the best to get you right into the game! plus, Playing your pokemon games on the big screen using that weird adapter thing. BIG FUN!

I think Nintendo didn't know what to do with the franchise, and so they left it for dead. The idea for a FP version of Metroid didn't come around until Prime, where Retro Studios already seemed to have good ideas for the series. It is arguably the biggest change, sidescroller to first person adventure.

I miss the academy from Stadium 2. Even though they added a nice story mode in the Collesium and XD games, I wish they had update the academy. Besides the tournaments, the Academy was the coolest thing about Stadium 2.

OoT and MM were the last of the really great Zeldas, and even though there were remakes, I still consider them primarily N64 games.
