something weird about N64
Okay...I was playing origanal smash on my nintendo 64 today when I noticed something really strange...If you flip over your n64 and look on the back, theres this little flap that says "ext." on it. I asume this is abreviated for extention. Anyway, I lifted the flap up and found what apears to be a pin, similar to the one that actually reads the game cartridges except a little smaller. What is this used for? can this be used to play...Pal or japanese versions of games? whats it for?

I think that's how you attached it to the 64DD

Nintendo 64DD - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
You can get one sometimes on eBay or some japanese auctions site if you're willing to pay at least $300 for it but you'll also need a japanese N64

Re: something weird about N64
Because it was planned to be released everywhere. It flopped in Japan (it didn't have to flop, that was Nintendo's fault), so they just dropped it. Master Quest originally came on it, and it was supposedly a method considered to do Banjo-Kazooie's Stop 'N' Swop. I think the best thing on it though (and you can still get this) was F-Zero X's track editor. You could put any track piece in any direction at any elevation, at any angle you wanted. How cool would that have been? I don't know why it wasn't on F-Zero GX, the GC could have more than handled that.

Re: something weird about N64
yeah i want that F-Zero X expansion so bad... you could also make custom machines.
About Master Quest, ,I haven't researched much really but yeah i remember back when it was released on GC it was said it was the never released (not even in Japan) "Ura Zelda"... and I remember at first it was going to be an extra only for Japan but then they confirmed it for the rest of the world too and it was joy. But not too long ago I read that actually Master Quest is not Ura Zelda, and that the original Ura Zelda was actually released in Japan for the 64DD (in ridiculous limited quantity of course), and it featured totally new designed dungeons and stuff. Can someone clear up this for once? I can't find Ura Zelda to be mentioned anywhere on the 64DD game lists, so I assume it never was released... but I think it might be possible that Master Quest is not Ura.

I know, how cool would that have been on F-Zero?
I seem to remember the exact opposite to the information you're giving about Master Quest. Now I'm confused...

Re: something weird about N64
Did the F-Zero track editer actually get released? F-Zero is one of my favorite franchises, and one of the games I enjoyed the most was the '64 version. It may even be worth getting a Japanese N64 for. Didn't the gamecube title "Doshin the Giant" originally come out for the 'DD?

Re: something weird about N64
I've never heard of 64DD before, that thing seems weird. I'm not very sad it was scrapped.
OoT Ura info in Wikipedia According to that, Ura Zelda and Master Quest are indeed two different things. It sounds interesting, I want one too... Too bad we apparently don't know any more about it, I'm curious now.

Re: something weird about N64
Yeah, Master Quest was nowhere near as good as what URA Zelda was going to be. Not just a few changes in the dungeons, but extentions on the overworld too, among other things. If only they had bothered to finish it. LAAAAAZY!

Re: something weird about N64
yeah, if they released ura zelda it would have sold like gold. seriously, everybody loves Oot, so Oot with new layouts, new places to explore, new dungeons, etc. it would be a great way to revamp an old classic, and not another exact remake ....again....

Re: something weird about N64
Also, Darknut King, Yes the F-Zero expansion was released. If you're lucky you can still find one. I hope they're smart enough to put it in the next one. Cause there is no way I'll be able to get the 64DD one.

Re: something weird about N64
Awesome. I remember getting real excited for the 'DD back in the day, so it was quite the disappointent when we never saw it. I still love my N64, so I may have to invest in a Japanese version with a 'DD. If Ura Zelda had been released for it, there would be no question as to wether I'd get it.

Re: something weird about N64
"Another misinterpretation is that Ura Zelda was never finished; however a very small amount of disks were available in Japan."
aha! ... I bet it must cost a fortune to get one in japanese auction sites, if it even appears for sale from time to time which is unlikely. But there seems there's a rom for it... must search.
