Favorite Gaming Era
I was thinking the other day, what was my favcorite video game era? Was the 8 bit days, or the 16, 32, 64, or 128? Which one was the best? Well, we will debate on your opinins here on which one was your favorite and why. Mine is the good ol 64 bit days. Why? It introduced alot of good games like Oot, and MM. The console was probably the most fun to play. So which one was your fav. Post it here to let otehr ppl see.
Sorry 4 misplacing this. I didn't see that this was entertainment. Silly me. Mods, I have a moving job to the general gaming section. Last edited by Haku; 01-16-2004 at 07:40 PM.. |

Re: Favorite Gaming Era
i agree... the 64 days were the best. it revolutionised the controllers with the control stick, and introduced 3d graphics.
mario 64 was a blowaway in its time, and the rest just followed

Re: Favorite Gaming Era
16-bit all the way; we'll probably never again have an era of such classics as LTTP, the DKC trilogy, Super Mario World, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island...

Re: Favorite Gaming Era
I've gotta agree with Darth Kirby, the SNES and Genesis generation was definitely the best.
Bits are a bad way to measure these things though... I am pretty sure the PS2, for instance, is a 32-bit console. At least I thinkn it was the PS2, maybe it was the Xbox. Only one of the three current consoles is actually 128, although I forget which one it is.

Re: Favorite Gaming Era
I would also have to say the 16-bit days...So many classics came out back then.....
Those were the good old days... |

Re: Favorite Gaming Era
I was around for the 16-bit days but back then I wasn't very much into gaming (too young). I wanted an SNES but got a 64 instead and I am glad I got it instead. Because it introduced me to OoT, Mario 64 and more. The 8-bit era was good to but I was probably only a year or so old when it ended. I think SNES games are overated or they are just funner to play on an original SNES.

"16, 32, 64, or 128"
32 and 64 bit eras happend at the same time. 128 bit is actually just a buzz word. The only true 128 bit system out currently is the PS2. The X-Box uses a couple of 32 bit processors, and the Cube uses a 64 bit processor. But the reality is the PS2 is the weakest console out of the 3. What does this mean? These "bit" processors are mostly just buzzwords. |

Re: Favorite Gaming Era
16 bits days. Ar. I remember going to friends houses enjoying myself on there snes's. Or 64 bit erm days. All or most 90 percent of my friends had 64's and we use to trade games. Doesnt work like that for the gamecube.

Re: Favorite Gaming Era
Hmm, I think the N64 days were the greatest for me... I got like twenty games for it, and even today I am having great fun with it. Unlike the GameCube, you don't beat the games in one hour, and leave them to collect dust.

Re: Favorite Gaming Era
Back when I had an SNES, everyone else did...there were so many good conversations and trades and whatnot to be had...and what's more, there wasn't the internet to spoil for me what's to come; I just went to the store, saw Donkey Kong Country 3 all of a sudden, and bought it. I'll probably never be that surprised again.
I have been getting less attentive about release dates lately, though.

Re: Favorite Gaming Era
Hmm, well since my first system that I owned wasn't until the 64, I don't have a huge amount of time spent with the older systems(which is funny since I was born the same year Metroid came out)
But my parents never got me a system or anything, I mostly just played my friends systems. To be quite honest, I stink at alot of SNES games, I kid you not, I can't do anything right on Super Mario World, I can barely beat the first level. It's pathetic. So I suppose I shall have to say the N64 era.

Bits are a VERY unreliable way to measure a system's power. They are completely irrelevant to anyone who is not interested in exactly how these pieces of hardware work.

I'd be inclined to say 1979-1983 as a timeframe for the game industry's greatest period, but it predates me, heh. I suppose I'd have to go with 1995-2000, which I suppose counts as "32-bit and 64-bit." EDIT: Don't forget the Neo Geo, the "first" 64-bit console. ![]()
