Manhunt 2 - Because Nintendo really cares.

Original: Nintendo Nixes AO Manhunt - Kotaku

Quote:
Yesterday when news broke that Manhunt 2 had received a preliminary rating of Adults Only from Take-Two, I shot a quick email off to Nintendo seeking comment on the issue.

Today they've confirmed that if the game's final rating is Adults Only it won't be showing up on the Wii... or any of Nintendo's systems.

Games made for Nintendo systems enjoy a broad variety of styles, genres and ratings. These are some of the reasons our Wii and Nintendo DS systems appeal to such a broad range of people. But as with books, television and movies, different content is meant for different audiences. That's why the ESRB provides ratings to help consumers understand the content of a game before they purchase it. As stated on Nintendo.com, Nintendo does not allow any AO-rated content on its systems.

I think that pretty much seals the deal with the Wii version of the game. There's no way Rockstar can ship a game for the Wii without Nintendo's consent.
So, apparently if Manhunt 2 doesn't have it's rating lowered to M, it won't be coming out for the Wii. You see Children, Nintendo has an image to maintain, it wants to be a children's system. It doesn't care about you. It cares about your little brother, who is probably chewing on the controller right now. May he enjoy Happy Feet: The Game.

Oh, BTW, this thought is spread to all home consoles. You don't even make good games anymore, home consoles! You make me cry.

Sony, Nintendo forbid AO-rated Manhunt 2

But I mean, it's all Nintendo's fault, right?

Yes. Yes it is.

Well, there is a little edit at the bottom of my article I linked saying Sony did too that I didn't see. My bad.

Do you realize how much sh-t they'd be getting if it ended up being AO on their consoles? Forgive them for not wanting to deal with dozens of protests groups and ridiculous lawsuits.

The thing is though, it's rated for Adults Only. 18 and older. Will parents buy this for their children? Yeah. Probably. That makes them a bad parent if they don't check it out.

God damn Democrats.

Re: Manhunt 2 - Because Nintendo really cares.

So... basically this game isn't coming out anymore?

EDIT: Not to be a ***** or anything "Though Manhunt 2 isn't slated for any of Microsoft's systems, the company has also confirmed that it does not allow AO-rated titles on the Xbox or Xbox 360."

So all consoles are too blame. But as Mirren pointed out they'd be in a load of ****ing **** if they let AO gets flood there system. Nintendo is perfectly logical for making this move, but there statement about audiences and styles really points out that Nintendo is still part of a "kiddie" image.

Re: Manhunt 2 - Because Nintendo really cares.

I'm afraid that I agree with Mirror Image.
Games are given ratings for a reason. If parents choose to ignore this reason, it's not Nintendo's fault.
I also doubt very seriously that Nintendo would be in any ****ing **** at all. Because of the fact that the game is rated A-O, and says on the packaging that it is acceptable for Adults Only, I doubt there would be any succesful lawsuits.

"I know the product said Adults Only, but my son wanted it really bad... so that's why I think Nintendo caused the Columbine shooting."

Your logic fails due to the fact of what happened to GTA: San Andreas. After Hot Coffee was discovered the game got plenty of law suits, and the game was then changed to an AO rating. Also Manhunt 2 is supposed to be WAY more violent than GTA San Andreas.

Yeah and considering all 3 companies decided not to do have Manhunt 2 on there system, Nintendo is not the only one to blame here.

When the Hot Coffee mod was found, San Andreas was rated M. The law suits, essentially, caused it's rating to be raised to A-O, to help stress the fact that you should be an adult to play the game. Manhunt 2 is already rated A-O. It. comes straight out of production giving all the warning San Andreas was sued for not giving.

I want to make sure you understand something. I'm not saying there will be no lawsuits, I'm saying there will be very few credible ones, if any at all.

Re: Manhunt 2 - Because Nintendo really cares.

I'm on this Finnish forum and had a discussion yesterday before these news and a guy there had found a site that referred to Manhunt 2 in the following manner:
"Wii remote and nunchuk in hands, use a pair of pliers to clamp onto an enemy's testicles and literally tear them from his body in a bloody display"

My point? I WANT THIS GAME!!!!

Lawsuits? Yeah, like this one granny in San Fransisco who sued Rockstar because she said the game had had a negative effect on his son for who she had bought the game for. And how old was his son...14!!! I agree with Mirror Image on this one.

Still hope they drop the rating to M, though...
