Star Fox
Star Fox, as a series, is not bad. Four out of five of the games have seen generally favorable reviews. Command might not have been the best, true, but it was better than Assault, and is a sign that the series has regained some of its majesty. Adventures was not a bad game; the main reason people seemed to hate it was because it wasn't a shooter like the previous installments, but that does not make it a bad game. It just means that it isn't what people wanted. Assault wasn't great, but it wasn't a terrible game. It was passable.
Hopefully, we'll see a Wii sequel. I remain hopeful for one, even though we have seen little evidence so far. Star Fox could work perfectly with the Wii controls- You could control the ship with the nunchuk, do flips and turns by moving the Wii remote, and all of the additional buttons could serve as special weapons and whatnot. Plot-wise, Command has already given us a pretty good idea where the sequel, if there is one, will take off.
Now, the sequel should be flight-based, obviously. Imagine the Lylat system as this giant overworld- You could fly from planet to planet, accepting missions and side-quests everywhere in-between. Individual planets could have, say, 5-10 different areas, or courses, each. Each area could have about one or two missions, and they would work just like the classic Star Fox games. Even though Assault had some crap ground missions, I don't think that means that ground play is a completely bad idea. I still believe that it is possible for quality ground missions, if enough effort is put in. But these would only account for about 10-20% of the overall experience. In fact, let's say that each one of the planets has a central city, where Fox accepts missions and tasks. Say, Fox goes in to ground mode in Corneria City, walking around, accepting missions, purchasing ship upgrades and items, and so on. Now, what if Corneria city were to go under siege? Fox could pull out a gun and go in to action, temporarily. This could also be applied to little space stations and enemy lairs dotting the galaxy. Also, what if the Star Fox team was expanded beyond the regulars? You could possibly gain guests to assist you, or, you could gain about ten additional fighters throughout the course of the game, and they could be interchangeable. So, do you like the Star Fox series? Hate it? And, what do you think would be in the sequel (If there will be one?) Last edited by Andross; 06-13-2007 at 01:11 PM. |

Re: Star Fox
I'm a Starfox fan, awesome series. I enjoyed adventures a lot actually, I thought it was a solid and fun action game, it had some Zelda-ish elements which were cool but it was a bit linear. My favourite is Lylat Wars though. I personally would like to see another game like that with no other elements, just flying at high speed and taking down hordes of enemies.
It would be cool to see the next one have some really epic cut-scenes with massive cities in space and witness huge set-pieces. Kind of like Final Fantasy XII (just as an example) Still the same Starfox but y'know, beef it up a bit. |

Re: Star Fox
I have every Starfox game, except for Starwing on NES. Which I'm still planning to get. Anyway, Personally, I fancy Lylat Wars mostly, simply because it was my first Starfox game, and it mainly made the serie interesting. Adventures, I found that pretty sweet as well.
Just a normal adventure game, though, but still cool. Assault and Command were truly terrible. Assault, I had beaten it in a few hours, as well as Command. However, with WiFi enabled, Command remains better than Assault. In my opinion, Assault was basically a cheap rip-off. |

Re: Star Fox
lylat wars? starwing? what did I miss? I own starfox 64 (best flight shooter Ive ever played! love it) and i own starfox command (which i think is the best one because the multiple endings and the online play. and i agree about the whole dash thing at the end. I have played assualt, which was okay, didnt bother with adventure cuz i dont really like adventure games (except zelda of course) I have never played starfox for snes, though i plan on buying the system and the game sometime in the near future.
What i think would be REALLY great for futur starfox games would be 1. mercenary like game. you can hire mercinaries to join your group and fly with you. each mercinaries have different ships, strengths, and weaknesses. 2 yeah, like said, the mission idea sounds very cool indeed. 3. definatly wiimote controled flight. would add alot of realism to the game.

Re: Star Fox
I love Star Fox, I think all of the games are awesome.
I especially like Assault because you get to fly and fight on foot, which I thought they did excellent on. |

Re: Star Fox
I've only played Starfox (SNES) Starfox 64 and Starfox Adventures, out of those SF64 is my favorite.. haven't played the newest ones but something tells me I'd still prefer the 64 one.
I enjoyed SF Adventures, but well originally it wasn't meant to be a SF game, but an original rare game called "Dinosaur Planet" or something along those lines.

Re: Star Fox
Yes, Star Fox 64 is amazing. It's been awhile since the last time that I played it, but being in this thread has actually tempted me to go get the game out and play it again.
The one for SNES is also awesome, but I haven't played it nearly as much as SF64. |

Re: Star Fox
Starfox games are some of my favorite.
I don't have Starfox 64 (that will change when I get a Wii points card...) Command is my favorite. (rank B or C online) Assault is pretty fun. I just wish I had more friends to play against. Adventures... dunno played once, and I may get it if I can find a 10$ copy. SNES version no clue... Best thing about the star fox series is 1) Consistancy 2) Actually feels like you're moving fast while flying 3) Some of the best multiplayer around

Re: Star Fox
I have been a Starfox fan since the original. I remember the huge debate about "is there/isn't there a Starfox 2". I still don't really know why it never got released, I mean, a near complete version is available over the net, and it would have sold a fair few copies.
Lylat Wars (Starfox 64) still stands out as the greatest addition to the series. I did enjoy Rare's Starfox Adventures, although you could tell the Starfox franchise was a little tacked on to it, as it was a originally titled 'Dinosaur Planet' to be released for the N64. Now, as for the latest installments, Assault and Command, I really wish Nintendo would tell me why they have given the licence to NAMCO. I am not a fan of their work personally, and while I found them playable games, they certainly were not what I wanted. I realise Nintendo have been trying to lure developers back to their consoles, after supposedly snubbing many of them in the days of the N64, but, why give away such a strong franchise as Starfox? They did it with Zelda with reasonable success, as Capcom did an good job with the handhelds of late, and even some Mario games made by developers such as Camelot (most Mario sports titles) and Intelligent Studios (Paper Mario, anyone?) have been great additions to Ninty's rosta. That said, I still can't help but feel they made a mistake in letting Namco develop this series, at a time when gaming is becoming more innovative, only 'the masters' themselves should be creating Starfox titles.

Re: Star Fox
Star Fox 64 is one of the best games I've ever played. Everything was done right. Fantastic gameplay, beautiful graphics, mindblowing soundtrack and an awesome cinematic presentation.
Star Fox Adventures is the black sheep of the series. It's bad. And I don't mean bad in comparison to the rest of the series. I mean objectively bad as in: A goddamn pain play. I looked like this when that stupid dinosaur came to me and told me that I had to lit all those stupid candles if I wanted to progress ANY farther through the stupid quest: ![]()

Re: Star Fox
I personally think Starfox Adventures should have been released as Dinosaur Planet. (Just because the male main character looked like Fox wasn't a good enough reason to turn him into Fox. Geez, Nintendo. :glare)
Moving on, my sisters are very big Star Fox fans. They played 64 constantly. I'm not so good at it, but I can always appreciate some good action and Starfox 64 had tons of that. There were some really nice ideas in there that I would like to see returning for future Star Fox games. Assualt was pretty okay, except for the badly done ground missions. My one sister refuses to replay it due to those missions. And the cutscenes/voice acting wasn't so hot. There's a certain amount of junk I can handle plot/character-wise if the gameplay's good enough, but if the gameplay isn't there, then...well...anywho, I just felt that a lot of scenes were badly handled. And the character of Krystal wasn't really well done, alongside the use of Star Wolf. My sisters really like the multiplayer, though. (wolf is a haxx0r, pplz who use him are cheatycheat faces ) Command was pretty good. It was handled by the original makers of the SNES Star Fox game, I believe. The plot and characters were better, but things were sometimes a bit melodramatic. Still, I think It's a step in the right direction.

Re: Star Fox
I think it was also partially because they were afraid it wouldn't do well on its own. Making it a part of an established franchise made it certain to sell; while as its own franchise, it might not have made it. I don't think making the change was a good choice when I think about the reasons, but Nintendo is a corporation...they probably felt it was a good choice money-wise.
