The best Prince of Persia?

I just finished playing the Two Thrones. Ive played all the Sands of Time series ones in order, and at the mo im not sure which i thought was the best.

Sands of time was what got me into it. I loved the wall running and acrobatics and the acrobatic combat. It had a great story an all the elements of PoP in good measure - trap sequences, acrobatic sequences and combat. Also some cool swords. It was the starting point, and was obviously liked enough to spawn the others.

Warrior within stepped it up a notch. It had a great story that followed well from the original. It also had a more mature prince (i still like the original prince). It had a great structure ie the two towers, the caves, the sand wraith etc. It also had cool sword upgrades and nice secondary weapons. It also had all the traps, acrobatics wall running etc. added combat (brutes and such) and added features like the two weapon system and the left hand for flipping over enemies, way more acrobatic and combat options. It also took way longer to complete due to the two towers etc. and had alternate endings.
It had a twisting plot and far more emotion from the Prince and other characters, they were far deeper characters.
It did feel a bit lonely though.

The Two Thrones i thought was amazing when i first played it. The stealth attacks, the dark prince, the chariot races, the sprawling city. it had a far less onely feel than warrior within and i really liked the ups and downs of the city.
However, the more i played the less i liked the story. The prince said all this crap about how hed ben arrogant and lame, but i thought he was a good character throughout the previous games. He fought for his family, his people, his friends, his life. He went through a hell of a lot, fighting the Dahake for his life. the fact that he just took all the insults and never said anything really pissed me off. Then before i knew it, the game was over, with a really unsatisfactory ending. he just 'forgot' the dark prince, and the dark prince turned out to be this 'evil' character. i thought he was just the princes ambitious side etc. Random.

A whole lot more could have been made of this game. the story could have been a lot deeper and the plot more interesting and twisty. the structure could have been better, and the game generally longer. A whole lot more could have been made of the city. i almost felt that this game needed a free-roam aspect, but that wouldnt be in keeping with the story style of the games. And there were only two chariot sequences. two.

After writing this, i think ive come to the conclusion that The Warrior Within was definately the best game. Although im inclined to say i liked the Sands of Time more. Combine the gameplay of the Two Thrones with the Story of the Sands of Time and the strucure and length of the Warrior within, and itd be a n uber game.

thoughts? and fave game?

Get around to it quickly.
And be sure you play the DOS version of the original. From my experience, it has the smoothest controls (along with the SNES version, but that changes up the levels quite a bit).

As for the new games- didn't play WW or TT, so SoT ftw.

Including the ever so hated 3D version that came out in 2000 or so.

Of course, the original one on the SNES is my favorite of all time.

Re: The best Prince of Persia?

I like the original one, the one on DOS. It's just great. The level design is wonderful and the gameplay is intense. Don't like the other PoP.

Re: The best Prince of Persia?

Have played all three Prince of Persia titles on the last-gen systems and the best one out of the three for me was Two Thrones for this reason:

It followed on nicely from Warrior Within and it took the best parts of Sands of Time and Warrior Within and combined them. The combat was top notch and the whole stealth was great, never once did i face a Sand guard in combat. The last boss was a nightmare for me, three stages of hell it was.

Re: The best Prince of Persia?

I've played parts of Sands of Time, I own Warrior Within (beat twice), and beat Two Thrones at my friend's house.

I personally think Warrior Within but Two Thrones is EXTREMELY close! Warrior Within was just a lot more fun to play with the dahaka chases and the plot seemed more gripping for some reason don't ask why. Therefore, my vote is Warrior Within.

Only thing I think two thrones has over Warrior Within is the bosses and the dark prince character is fun as a character and to play as (except for the draining life).

Re: The best Prince of Persia?

I have to say The Two Thrones as the best one. It had the right soundtrack for the era and the atmosphere of the game had a true "persian" kind of feel. It was a real "Prince of Persia" game if you ask me.

The Sand of Time was great, but not to my liking because of the graphics (yes, I'm very picky with the graphics in this case), and as well as the limit of swords; you can't change your weapons, and you can't pick them up. I didn't like that at all.

Warrior Within was also a great game, but it had too much of a dark atmosphere to it. It didn't seem to me like a "Prince of Persia" game at all.

Re: The best Prince of Persia?

Having played the original, Sands of Time and The Two Thrones, I can say without any hesitation that SoT is my favorite. It may not have the greatest combat around, but the puzzles, the plot (especially the characters) and the style are top-notch. Two Thrones came pretty close, but it's hideously buggy and the character interaction isn't as great. And the way I see it, combat isn't even the most important part of the games.

I'm not going to say anything about the original, because I didn't play it when it was originally released.

There's another one, isn't there? Twin Swords or something.
