Metroid Prime 2
Oh-ho-ho. I wonder how this will proceed.
I can see why some people felt disappointed with this game, but I see no reason why one should hate it. Of course, its plot was a bit more linear than the first Metroid Prime, with the inclusion of more NPCs. I can understand why people say that it damages the 'Metroid feel', but it doesn't make the game bad (And it definitely wasn't the first Metroid game to incorporate such an aspect.) Metroid Fusion was a quality game, and it had a similiar level of NPC interaction, for instance. In my opinion, even though some of the "lone world" and "exploration" elements may have weakened, one still has a large, explorable world, filled with secrets and hidden backstory. There are still plenty of puzzles, ranging from easy to incredibly hard. It keeps plenty of the great aspects of the first Metroid Prime, and still retains alot of Metroid flavor. Another major reason that caused disappointment, I believe, was the dark world/light world theme. I do agree, it did grow stale at points. Samus had a doppelgänger, which is nothing new to the world of gaming (As well as the Metroid series.) The environments were not as varied or as grand as the first Metroid Prime, and I believe that they could have done alot better in that aspect. However, the great gameplay, adequate music, challenging puzzles, and hidden upgrades certainly make up for the stale factors. It was a great game, in my opinion, although it wasn't a masterpiece, like the first. What are your opinions on the game? |

Re: Metroid Prime 2
Metroid Prime 2 is in book at the same level of Metroid Prime, and I think some people should just shut up and stop exaggerating when talking about this game.
First off, the game is way less linear than the first Metroid Prime. Instead of holding your hand with signals, they throw you in an overworld just as big and complex as Tallon IV, giving it a more non-linear feel and enhancing the exploration factor. This aspect was one of the most notable when I first turned on the game, and I bet most people will agree with me on this. I remember many people whining about this game's non-linearity in the forums back in the day. I also think that criticism regarding "technical" enviroments is way out of league. Sure, this game offered that type of enviroments more often than the first game, but still it doesn't change the fact that natural landscapes were present and were designed just as well as those in MP. Besides, I don't remember anyone whining about Phazon Mines. All in all, people should learn to accept change and adapt to the new things these games offer, specially when it comes to varied enviroments. Very few things come to mind when I think about negatives. Maybe the biggest one was the ammo system, it sucked and forced me to use the Power Beam for most of the game. The NPCs just weren't that polished, although they didn't take away anything from the "loneliness" factor since you still were alone for 99% of the game. The light/dark theme was cliched but I just didn't care. Overall, what most people don't seem to realize is that their criticism towards this game applies to MP as well. They're both extremely similar games, and on the same level when it comes to quality. Yet some people grow so sentimentally attached to the first game that they ditch out the sequel just because it has the number 2 next to it. Quote:
When it comes to bosses, I also preffered those from Echoes. The spider guardian, the 3 worms, Quadraxis... they were more fun and unique than Thardus for example. I still loved the bosses from both games, but Echoes definitely excelled Prime in this aspect

Re: Metroid Prime 2
I liked both Prime and Echos. I liked Prime better because of Story, Infinite ammo, better bosses, etc. etc. What i liked better about Echos was the annihilator beam. it tracks down enemies and does excellent damage:XD

Re: Metroid Prime 2
I hated it, but this really is a "love it or hate it" type of game. There is no inbetween.
My reason for disliking it was because it was basically like playing Metroid Prime 1 all over again (which is a game I love), but a lot of the elements that I loved were taken out in Prime 2. For example, Prime 2 was far more linear, the environments were less unique and beautiful, the music was meh, and the gameplay was ruined, in my opinion, thanks to the annoying dark world sections. I was also annoyed with being limited on ammo. Like I said, I do love the first Metroid Prime!

Re: Metroid Prime 2
Agreed. Prime's bosses were excellent, yes, but Prime 2's were without a doubt a step up from their predecessors. Also, can't get enough of Dark Samus (f***ing awesome when I realized I had to fight after the Emperor Ing).

Re: Metroid Prime 2
I wasn't too keen on Echoes, to be honest.
I triede to play it, but I just couldn't get into it at all.

Re: Metroid Prime 2
It was a more mature and complex sort of game than Prime 1 in a way. Ddnt ike the ammo system, and what was the annihilator beam about? it was rubbish. And the beam combos were a bit useless. But the actual story was more dark and the atmosphere more brooding and with more malice. Veered away from the whole Space Pirate/Metroids thing but still good. Dark Samus was a interesting element.
I loved the first game, and i thought the worlds were better (Phendrana kicked ass), but the new worlds were meant to be ravaged and dead so it was cool. The visors were a bit similar, and i liked the X-ray and thermal ones from the first game better. Screw attack was cool. Overall i thought the story was more dark, mature and far more involving, althought the artifacts werent as good, they were too quick and easy. BUt then there was the energy controllers. Overall just as good as Prime 1, but i think i prefer Prime 1. EDIT: the light suit was definately the best suit form the two games, Phazon suit second. Also, in MP2 you actually felt there was a war going on and some enemy hunting you, rather than just some space pirates in their mines.

Re: Metroid Prime 2
Loved it, loved it, loved it, loved it, loved it.
Sorry for that, but really; It was awesome. At first, it seemed sort of uninspired, with the dark world and the stupid Ing. But then this Dark Samus showed up and everything just seemed much brighter. Although dark versions of the main character isn't the slightest original, Dark Samus really made life a living hell. Not only that, but the general difficulty level of MP2 was high. There is no need to discuss the gameplay, it was great, just as MP
