New Tales (Of Symphonia?) Title Coming to the Wii?

So I'm not gonna lie. I'm fresh off teh sex that was Tales of Abyss, maybe still even humming the Grand Fonic Hymn[<---Click.], when Lo and Behold, Matt Cassamissina on the Wii-k in Review Podcast has revealed a new RPG is going to be announced very soon. And guess what? All given hints point to a new Tales game for the Wii! (What? FTW?)

Now, with the given hints, it's highly likely that the new game is a Tales game, given both BK and ToS's release date and sharing the same publisher. Whether or not it's actually a sequel to ToS is pure speculation however, as MC might have not meant it in that sense, but as a new game in the series.

All we know is that we haven't heard of a new title out of the Tales studio for quite a while and that we're practically due for Team Symphonia (who made the superior Abyss as well) to wow us again with a new title for the games. I can't frigging wait. This title would be my number one killer app for the Wii and has been the major release that I've been waiting for from 3rd parties for a looooong time.

That would be awesome, Tales is one of the few games on Gamecube that I still play today. I'm on my 3rd playthrough, and the battle system is still just as fun as it was the first time I played it.

I'd hope they mess around with the controls and make it motion sensitive and all, I'd like to see it where you just use the Gamecube controller

We've yet to see how a 2d-psuedo-3d fighter be adapted to the Wii's primary control systems (other than DBZ, which I thought was a bit qwerky), so it'd be interesting to see how this plays out.

Also, its great that there's been a winter's chill over Tales releases. Means that there shall be time to honestly refine and create a new mindblowing experience as opposed to several lukewarm titles. (discounting Destiny Remake, Abyss and Legendia)

i also played it today and i made my 6th playtrough, i saved my time and all together it makes 200:56 hours, yes hours
ooh and i can't wait till i get this game, it looks awesome!!!

I can hardly contain my exitement for yet another Tales game.

What ever you think of it though, ToS is better than mediocre. As I would like to see a new Tales title for the Wii, though to be honest I prefer a new Secret of Mana, Lufia title or better rpg. (Yes I said it.)

Nah. I would call Tales of Symphonia mediocre (though more towards "just good"). Tales of the Abyss on the other hand is actually something to talk about.

This game that Matt is talking about most definitely is Symphonia, and for that, I am very excited. I mean, he said that it's an RPG on Gamecube that's not Baten Kaitos. That narrows it down to three games right there.

I'm certainly excited, I loved ToS (The 'cube being RPG-starved probably had something to do with that.) so I'm certainly looking forward to learning more.

I would be very glad to see some made-for-Wii games along these lines. My Wii has gotten almost no use since I finished TP, and that's been a bit of a disappointment. And seeing as how I've got no prejudices for or against ToS, I'd be inclined to buy such a game if it was made for the Wii.

This game looks pretty cool. I wonder how the controls will be like.

Which was again caused largely due to the fact that Abyss was the Gamecube built Symphonia engine that was ported to the PS2 for Symphonia PS2, then rebuilt and tweaked a little to be a tiny bit "better." All that in mind, that's why I think the next Tales game, especially if for the Wii, would be completely great, as the only thing stopping Abyss was the technical "mess,"* as you call it. And being on a system that's more powerful (and easier to develop for?) than the PS2 would completely solve that problem.

*(The tech issues with Abyss you do actually start to overlook, at least graphically. Loading times still stuck out like a sore thumb.)

Yeah, the gameplay was better than Symphonia's, but like you said, load times sucked, and the graphics are underwhelming even for PS2. The characters looked good, but enemies and environments were lacking beauty both technically and artistically. That, and I found that the battles were a wee-bit too chaotic, but that's another topic.

If they take that gameplay, expand upon it even more (especially with Wii's technology all around), and make it technically presentable for this new title, well, we may be seeing one of the best RPGs of our time.
