Resident Evil Topic:Who thinks that...
Who thinks that Resident Evil should return to it's horror survival roots instead of keeping the RE4 action style?
My opinion:Resident Evil is just plain better as survival horror (RE4 was not even scary)

Re: Resident Evil Topic:Who thinks that...
i loved both styles as well, i sort of doubt that capcom will make another pre-rendered style resident evil for a home console, but i do think it would be cool if they started making old style pre-rendered games for psp and other handhelds

I'm kinda torn apart here, because I like the new aiming system but I also love the classic fixed camera (it gave me the feeling that I was playing through a graphic novel). I'm not sure if both elements could be combined succesfully, and quite frankly, If I had to, I wouldn't know for which one to vote. |

Re: Resident Evil Topic:Who thinks that...
The "classic" gameplay of the RE series was far suprieror to me. RE 4 wasn't suspensful or anything, the older ones actually made me jump a few times and kept me on edge. The only thing in 4 that kept me paying attention were the annoying button mashing cut scenes which I found quite stupid after the first one. I'll always playing the Resident Evil games no matter which gameplay type Capcom uses, but I will always prefer the original gameplay type.

Re: Resident Evil Topic:Who thinks that...
Resident Evil is a classic gaming series I find very enjoyable, possibly the most enjoyable gaming series I've enjoyed both before the year 2000 and after it too. While I love the original horror such as the original and RE2, I enjoyed RE4 a lot also, not only because of the change in the gaming, general theme and enemies, but also much of the system and the meaning of horror too.
Resident Evil Four was very dynamic and intriguing, also offering quite a refreshing change after enjoying fighting the same old zombies game after game after game, because as fun as that is, it would soon lose my interest eventually without something different or more. Even the crimson heads in the gamecube's original remake weren't all that more appealing, and the ganados that appeared in RE4 were hugely different to the shuffling decrepit bodies of infestation and rot. The ganados were fast, clever and would try different tricks in order to get to you, from calling to their allies to fetching ladders to climb up after you. The rest of the enemies weren't too different (Giant crocodile/salamander, bugs, dogs n stuff), but the style of fighting had changed. Gone are the annoying fixed camera angles, and the ability to carry more than six items is muchly appreciated. The need to be constantly aware and having to keep your buttons on the control pad all the time was good. It kept my attention on the game lest I risk an untimely demise with a cutscene or hidden enemy. Few times I had to be so aware in previous games, although when younger, I was honestly more intimidated by the creepy music, enemies and dodgy camera angles of dark and gloomy places than by the action-themed, adrenaline-filled thrillerkiller of RE4. The fighting I feel was improved, as I concur on how annoying it is to try and kill something you can't see (and having it in front of your face is 9/10 unappealing) Both styles are excellent as they have their own unique offerings, and I think a combination of the two would be fantastic. The original theme is highly appealing, not only because it worked and was what started off the series in the first place, but also, well, it's quite nostalgic. RE4 was something very different, but equally a fantastic success on how change doesn't always ruin a good sequel. |

Re: Resident Evil Topic:Who thinks that...
Well seeing as RE4 is on every top 10 games of all times list I really doubt Capcom will let go of the concept. At least no until they screw it up royally, a designer step all too common in gaming industry.

Re: Resident Evil Topic:Who thinks that...
I wasn't fond of the RE4 storyline, but I really enjoyed the controls. It would be interesting to have a RE game that lets you choose between using the two styles.
RE4 was not scary, you're right, but it was eerie. I miss the scares I got from RE3 when Nemesis would bust through a window and you'd have to pick an option real fast.

Re: Resident Evil Topic:Who thinks that...
After playing RE4, I can't even go back to play the older RE games. The old gameplay style feels old, boring, dull and flawed compared to the new action-oriented gameplay.
That being said, Resident Evil has never been scary, they just surprise you with loud noises or windows breaking all of a sudden. That very same effect can be achieved and enhanced with the new gameplay mechanics. The camera, the terrible aiming system, the boredom, the limited inventory... all of it is gone. RE4 is the game that brought the franchise back to life to me, and it finally feels like it should be. It's among the best games of all time for a very good reason. My position is very clear. Ditch the old gameplay, shoo shoo!

Re: Resident Evil Topic:Who thinks that...
Well I love the old Re's but RE4 is still completly awsome. I'd like a survival horror combined action game in the RE sereies. What I wont like is umbrella crhonicles however. Its not survival horror at all and its basically a railgun type of game. You don't control your character at all basically. You also don't get to pick what rooms u go into. its just dumb.

Re: Resident Evil Topic:Who thinks that...
I've enjoyed the entire series as awhole. he Residente EVil games have been very solid.
RE4 kept the series fresh and its definately one of teh best games to come out in a long time I always thought the REmake was the scariest one out of all of them. And the music adds to that...better yet when there is just silence. And don't forget Lisa, that ***** scared the hell out of me several times. |

Re: Resident Evil Topic:Who thinks that...
Well, I own the entire series & Ive beaten all the titles numerous times. this is easily my favorite series out there... Although I liked the run gun scene of RE4.... the fear factor indeed was not there... although after playing RE 1, 2, 3, CV & REBIRTH you kind of get the ideas of how things are oing to go down, you kind of get ideas that certain monsters are here or there, basically VERY REPITIVE!!! but still fun! I always thought that Silent Hill was very scary & I always gave the idea that Capcom should take some SH ideas & turn RE into a physical & MENTAL horror game... play some mind tricks with your head kind of turn the RE franchise & the SH one into SILENT EVIL or Resident Hill ... mix the two series together as one...... it would make me crap myself playing that kind of game IE: the BETA version of RE4!!
